The original game spawned one sequel Devil May Cry 2 and a prequel, Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening, which was also re-released as a special edition game. The newest addition Devil May Cry 4 features a shift from the previous main character of the series, Dante, to a new character Nero. As with every popular video game with attractive male characters, there is a large DMC yaoi fandom. Throughout the progression of the games, Dante, the former protagonist, has changed from a somewhat cocky uke into a tough seme. A new uke character had to be introduced to balance out the equation.
