dead cat bag?

First of all excuses if my English is a bit crappy. I'm Dutch and a bit dyslectic.
I've this really cool skirt made out of the softest fleece ever. Since it said in the label that it would be my size I took it home from the give it away for free store here (like a thrift store but then for free). I tried it at home and it was like 2 sizes to big. On the outside it is green and the inside it is anthracite.
Since it is hard to resize without breaking the pattern and nobody of my friends likes the color green I decided to make it into a bag. I saw a couple of years ago a wonderfull bag online (crafster? I believe) of a dead cat but I checked even my memories and googled it several time and guess what I do seem to have dreamed it. I can not find it.
Since I just got a new sewingmachine for my upcoming B-day I'm eager to start with a cool project. I even have a wonderfull lining for it (bloodred if my hb didn't use that for his larpevents)
Who can help me finding it?

I come to you with permitted plugs, and plushies!

Greetings, I'm Phyrbyrd, I'm English, and I have been lurking this community for quite a while. Pleased to meet you!

The very sympathetic [info]dietcokefiend has given me permission to plug my own comm, [info]craftcollective here, because it is brand new, doesn't have many people there yet but if it did, it would be just the sort of place y'all would get a kick out of.
It's not for craft tutorials - that's this place. Craft Collective is about troubleshooting, where to find stuff, how to get things cheaply, and also, a good place to show the world what you're working on/planning/just finished. And there's no selling allowed, so it's not going to get overwhelmed with Etsy ads.
However, this craft borg needs people to work - [info]ljgenie would be nothing without people, Craft Collective is the same. So please, at least take a look - for the good of the craftborg!

Incidentally, I'm also linking to a tutorial I found on DeviantArt, since my Photoshop skills are non-existant and this tutorial has served me well. I did a quick archive search, and did findeth it not.
http://keysha-chan.deviantart.com/art/Basic-Plush-Toy-Tutorial-84394030

With it, I produced my first ever plushie: http://phyrbyrd.deviantart.com/art/Boggart-112038634
So it works great.

Hey Everybody

I just joined and this community seems like just the place for me,

everybody looks really crafty and helpful :)

Umm, you guys have probably seen this a million times but I just found out so I thought I'd share

How to make two magazine holders from one cereal box

All you need

is an x-acto knife (makes it easier)

and/or

scissors

cereal box (empty :P)

something to cover the box(gift wrap?)

tape (optional)

and a pencil to help guide you.

Steps

All you really need to do is trace your classic magazine holder shape on the sides of the box with a pencil.

Cut a small hole with an x-acto knife [or all of it with an x-acto knife]

and just cut around your outline, as soon as you've cut out your first holder, the same shape comes from the other side of the box.

Then just put some tape where the cereal box's top is [the opening] and cover with gift wrap or paper of your liking,

like other magazines :D

soda can ideas?

My younger brother just had a few friends over for the past 3 days, and with 5 teenage boys in the house they drank a TON of soda. Anyone have ideas of what I can do with a bunch of aluminum cans? I was thinking I could cut off the tops and bottoms and make something with that, but I'm not really sure what to do, and would appreciate any input.
Thanks :]

bureau reconstruction ideas?

in the next couple of weeks i'd like to purchase an old bureau/dresser and give it a facelift. however, i'm falling short on ideas. i don't want to take the traditional approach and just stain it a dark cherry. i would like it to have an old vintage-y feel with a modern twist? i am open to anything, though. so ideas, please!

Hey everyone!  I recently got wind of these really neat handbags by Ecoist.  They're made from recycled materials suck as candy wrappers, maps, etc.  I also got a bit of sticker shock when I saw the prices!  I'm interested in making one for myself.  Has anyone found some tutorials?

Here's a link to show what I mean:  thirtyduo.blogspot.com/2009/04/ecoist-handbags.html

Thanks in advance!

Glass/Resin?? pendants

I have a question about glass necklaces.

I often see necklaces, square in shape and about 1/4 cm in thickness, made of glass, possibly resin. Pendants, usually...sometimes with a little design in them!

How would I go about making something like this, does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you :D

T-Shirt Banding!

Awkward title, I know. But, I took some video of a more recent t-shirt surgery that shows how I like to finish off edges with a band of knit fabric. My camera is nice and old so it's not super hi res and I have no sound, but I fiddled with it in imovie and threw in subtitles/commentary. It's my first time messing with video and editing it, so some of it is a little darker than I would have liked. I just remember seeing a few different people in a bunch of communities asking something about finishing off the raw edges of surgeries. Let me know if you have any questions or need clarification!

The final shirt can be seen here.

Projects to do with magazines?

Hello everyone!

Whilst cleaning out my room, I realized I have a lot of (backstreet boys :-P) magazines boxed up that have been stored away for years. They're doing no good taking up room in my closet...but I don't want to get rid of them. Does anyone have any ideas or tutorials for crafts to make out of magazines?

Charity art show

My sister's friend has a charity organization that will be raising funds through an art show. I gladly told her that I would make crafts to sell. There could be a pretty broad audience: Grandkids, people our age [so about 16-20], and mostly old ladies from her church. In fact, they're talking to her pastor today to discuss using a place on church property to hold the event.
So at first I thought I could make some pretty looking crosses, but then I started thinking about putting short bible verses on DIY projects. This is where I ask you for some inspiration!
Post any of your projects that incorporated bible verses or any other religious themes you think these ladies would like.

Question/Request.

I have looked through the tags and didn't find the answer for these.
If there is an entry already on one or both I am sorry that I missed it...

I am wondering if anyone could link me to tutorials of making these things:
Hair clips (both with clips and bobby pins).
Pouch.
Bags and purses of all kinds.
Re-makes of clothes.
Ribbons (bow tying, headbands, decoration).
Also how to make fabric hair bows, sew them.

Also re-cycle things that you can use as storage of different things.
Like you can decorate a shoe-box and use it as storage kind of things.

xoxo // Layla (who'll be happy for links)

Edit: I found a few posts about things above now lol.
But I want even more links since I've already seen the ones posted...

how to: make a quick + easy sketchbook

Hey guys, I just joined this community cause I wrote this DIY tutorial and thought you may be interested. Here goes:

How to make a diy sketchbook by susie ghahremani / boygirlparty.com
This is a super-easy project, customizable to any size, and you'll be left with a cute sketchbook with handy pockets filled with paper you love to draw or write on (unlike many sketchbooks on the market!) and something you can proudly say you made.

You will need:
  • approximately 10 sheets of drawing paper
  • A ruler, scissors, rotary cutter (or x-acto), sewing machine (or heavy duty sewing needle + thread)
  • One sheet of decorative paper (I recommend something a little bit heavier, like cardstock thickness)
  • Optional: rubber band or ribbon for super-flat closure

    dyeing coloured clothes

i have this pair of bright yellow, 98% cotton, 2% elastane pants. i'm thinking of dyeing them neon or at the very least bright (not dark or foresty) green. i dont know if this is possible, the pants say 'do not bleach', but i am hoping it's safe to dye them ? if anyone can help me out, i'd like to know whether or not i would be better off using green dye or using blue dye, and what i would do to create an even tone of colour and avoid too much of a tie-dye/uneven effect.

    thanks so much.

    Help!

I have been lurking this community forever and you guys are AMAZING! Seriously, The craftiest people I know of for sure.

So I have a delima. There is a boy (as there always seems to be) we like each other, we are both 21, but have decided that dating at this point would be...potentially devastating to our friendship, however we are both the kind of people who...like to feel things out. The main reason we won't date is I live in Virginia, while he lives in Cali. I am on my way out there for a few days to visit him soon, and he is giving me a place to stay as well as providing me with food. So I would like to make him a thank you gift. Something that says I like you, without being too....upfront and lovey ya know? He is into reptile, spiders, scorpions (general ewwy creepy crawlies =] thats what he is studying in school) and his motorcycle, a ductai. He also works as a monster at Knotts scary farm, for those who know what it is. I'm looking for something super thoughtful. I'm just useless at the initial idea, but I am good at personalizing. Any help would be super apperciated.

    THANKS GUYS!

A recipe I got in Bust Magazine. It's not anything special really, but it's nice to have guidance. :]

When it comes to infusing, the flavor possibilities are endless - you can use anything from fruit to herbs to nuts. The result is a full-flavored vodka you can use to make cocktails or enjoy on the rocks. It's a super simple way to create your very own fancy concoctions without going broke. Cheers to that!

    flower pressing help?

Hey everyone, I was wondering if any of you guys were versed in flower pressing (or not, it's all good!) because I need some input :D

I have a daffodil that I want to press, but I'm not sure how I should do it. I love how flowers look when they're pressed out (straight on as opposed to sideways/folded kinda) but I don't know if it is possible with daffodils. They have that inner circle petal thing (I'm clearly not a plant expert) and it would rip if I tried to flatten it. I could maybe cut it, but I wouldn't know where I should cut or how it might look.

Is there a way to do this and not ruin it?
