ahahaha I love that this is an entry in
whatwasthatone. My brother and I make reference to that exact scene ALL. THE. TIME. xD
Augh I am too tired to write a proper post right now. I shall only say that I am SO MUCH IN LOVE WITH SCHOOL right now that I kind of hate that it's already the weekend. You may remember how much I was in hate with school last semester? I have no idea what's going on here either but I won't worry myself about it too much if my enjoyment of school manages to last. :) I'm unnecessarily anxious about how much I should be working this semester, though. Right now I've given them two days a week but I can't decide whether or not to add a third. :/ But we have been so wonderfully slow at work this week (850 guests in our first evening set tonight; for a Friday night that number is PATHETIC) that I now magically have tomorrow night off! :D I NEVER get Fridays or Saturdays off you guys. This is EPIC.
Speaking of EPIC, the bulk of my reading this weekend is the first three books of The Iliad, so of course I am happy with that. xD; I feel like I'm cheating or something, because this is the exact same reading assignment I had my first weekend back in first year. And speaking of reading, OH MAN I BOUGHT MY BIOLOGY TEXTBOOK TODAY AND IT IS HUGE! And the study guide has as many pages as the textbook!! Have I been spoiled by Humanities study guides? Where they're only like a quarter as thick as the textbook? I cannot even get over this!!
I guess before I go to bed I should probably tell you what classes I am taking, haha. It is definitely a random semester, I just need three random classes of whatever at whatever level in order to graduate, so ... yeah. :p In alphabetical order I have:
Biology 150A - with one of my co-workers!! haha xD I'm not sure yet how much I'll like this class but I dropped a huge amount of money on the textbook and study guide so I guess I'm committed! Man it has been so long since I had a science class~ ...
Economics 111 - YES I have a class in ECONOMICS which means I actually have to learn how to pronounce it! (lol,
athena_crikey and
the_wykydtron may remember what I am talking about. ;) ) This is a class about the economy and its effects on the environment so it's pretty interesting and accessible for people like me who have no idea about anything having to do with economics. I feel like such a total poser in this class, though! Like I'm totally not supposed to be there. And MAN, it blows my mind that I have two classes for which there are no writing assignments. Are there seriously people who go through university not ever having to write a single essay?? Because that's just not fair! D:
GRS 300 - SORRY BUT I AM PROBABLY GOING TO TALK WAY TOO MUCH ABOUT THIS CLASS. I feel like a poser here, too, not because I know nothing about the subject but because I feel like a TOTAL FANGIRL in a classroom full of SERIOUS ACADEMICS. ahahaha I'm sure I'll still love it though. xD;
Sociology 100A - with
the_wykydtron! Still not sure what I'm going to think of this class, we had what I guess was our first lecture today but it was very ... vague ...
And now I am distracted from this entry. The end! :D
(augh so as you can see, a bad thing about working is that I always forget to go to bed afterwards ... ahahaha hello there three a.m., haven't seen you for a couple days! :P )
ok, Another long story short:
San Francisco and adjacent cities in the Bay Area just experienced an earthquake in the 4.0's at 9PM on the dot...
while technically not 'big', It was strong enough to wake me up and experience the room to continue to sway for several more seconds...
Since it's not a bad one, everyone's generally OK. Nothing fell down at the Nymo abode, so I'm happy.
so yeah, Back to watching Monk's 100th episode...
I'm so glad this week is over! Work was so stressful! My group is pretty good, but there's another group that we have to interface with, and they're just lazy and completely incompetent! My boss never really does anything about them either, so that just adds to the frustration.
I'm starting to get ready for our trip. Our tickets were supposed to be here in mid August, but they're still not here yet, and we only have a few days left! Thankfully our foreign currency (Euros) were ready earlier than expected. Also, both the SO's and my cameras died last week! Augh! I would like to get two small G10's for us, and then a nicer D90 for myself, but of course, none of those will be out until after the trip. We could rent cameras, but that's $400 for two weeks of rental! So our last choice is to find and buy a G9, one of us will use that, and then I think we can borrow her mom's camera, which isn't the greatest, but oh well, it's a camera.
Today as I went down to do our laundry, I realized that they took out all of the laundry machines in the laundry room that's right below us. They did this because they want people to get their own washing machines, which the company will rent to you for $100 a month. Now, while that would be nice, I don't see where they'd put them in our apartment, and second, I'll guarantee you that we don't spend more than $100 in laundry! There's another room, that's somewhat close, but when they took the card machine out of our laundry room, they didn't move it to another room. So in a complex that has hundreds of people in it, there's one card machine (that you put your card in to get credits for the machines), and of course it's in the room on the other side of the complex from us. Ugh.
I'm just setting my eyes on vacation!
So Christina has a new song out from her upcoming Greatest Hits Album. It's called "Keeps Getting Better" and you can listen to it at http://z100.elvisduran.com/pages/news/ke
I like it, it's kinda like Meredith Brookes' "Bitch," but is definately more club-friendly.
Update: According to People Magazine Online:
A Google delicacy I have yet to be introduced to, but would love to be... at least once. The city may be fighting a war on trans-fats but Google's NYC cafeteria might as well be Switzerland from the looks of some photographs of what's being served up. Today, a Bacon Krispy Kreme Burger (whose sign also says "wrong on so many levels") was on the menu. Not only is the Krispy Kreme bun grilled, but the burger had cheese, too. Someone who actually had the burger told us, "It tasted like a candied burger. Or rather what you would expect a candied burger to taste like."Well, there is the marriage of the sweet and savory. We suspect some employees might be checking the benefits handbook to see if colonics are covered. Would you eat a Krispy Kreme Bacon Burger? You can see what other things are being eaten at Google cafeteria by looking at the "googlefood" tag on Flickr. And we'll have more about the NYC Google offices next week.
Google Mashup: Krispy Kreme Donuts + Burgers

I'll spare everyone with details of the road trip itself and of the shows. Maybe I'll make a flocked post later with more details, idk.
( quick recap, videos & pictures from 4 shows, FN MTV & Ellen under the cut )
I had a pretty great summer. I got to hang out with some amazing people, made new friends and, despite the fangirls, had an amazing time.
Now it's time to rest up for the weekend, I have the VMA rehearsal tomorrow for their performance, and then the show itself on Sunday. :D

And trust me, Hannah, you're no Dennis.
3 days, 8-10 inches of rain per day, labor day weekend 1999.
And MDRF still rocked.
'nuf said.
I hate school, for the same reasons I hate church. I don't like sitting around and having to listen to someone talk at me about things I don't really care about.
That being said though, I finally did what I should have done a long time ago, and signed up for some classes so that I can finally complete my degree.
In looking at my transcripts, I was reminded of just how bad I was at going to school during my first years out of High School. Lots of poor grades and withdrawals back then essentially now put me in my freshman year all over again. I attribute this to the depression I was going through during those years. Being convinced that you're going to hell over something you have no control over - and wondering how you're going to make it through the night - kind of take up a lot of space in ones mind. That doesn't leave much space for learning.
Unfortunately I still had to pay the bills, which meant I had to work. So that's what I did... I worked full time and made money.
Anyway, now I'm trying to sort of make up for the time I wasted.
I'm taking two classes:
Biology (which is online)
and Public Speaking (which is, unfortunately, in person).
So far the Bio class seems easy enough. Each week we are given two sets of "notes" from the teacher, and some number of chapters to read in the text book, which we are given a timed quiz on at the end of each week. We are also given two sets of discussion questions, and we we must respond to at least one question online, as well as find a news article on another question and email a synopsys to the teacher.
Last night I BSed my way through a couple of questions about carbo-loading before exercise and antibiotics in the meat we eat.
I'm sure I can handle that.
What I'm slightly less sure of is my ability to handle the Public Speaking class. I HATE public speaking. I don't mind (even really enjoy) participating in group discussions, but I'm petrified about standing in front of a group of people and having them watch me and listen to every thing I say (or even pretend to). My voice gets shakey, my heart starts pounding, and I get dizzy. Seriously I had to give a presentation at our last staff meeting at work, and even though I know and like all the people I was talking to, I was super nervous.
My sister is actually in both of these classes as well and she spoke to the Public Speaking teacher to see if - since the class starts at the time I'm I getting off work - I could be late to class every week. The teacher seems really nice as she apparantly "has a lot of respect for people who work full-time and go to school."
I think I'll be ok as long as I know what I'm talking about and can stand behind a podeum or something.

Hanna is supposed to make a hit at us here in CT in a few hours. It is humid outside and we have had off and on showers so far.
When the brunt of the storm hits it will be weakened down to a tropical storm/depression and we are likely to see heavy heavy rain and 40 mph wind gusts.
Some coastal flooding, minor inland flooding, and scattered outages are also expected. The worst that might happen here is that we may loose power and get a few downed trees in the roads.
In the meantime I am about to start sorting/shredding my old bills and I plan to grab some Chinese across the street later if we still have power. Tomorrow looks like a nice day but, I am likely to be sorting through more bills and such.
