A Discworld Convention Report.

Some memorable bits of the Con...

Friday - Arrived, met and hugged afpers for quite a while. Unfortunately missed the Opening Ceremony. but never mind. Impromptu music took place in the bar that night, including 'Route 66' with CTony singing the Manhattan Transfer
version and everyone else playing the original version. Also featured myself and Loriba singing 'Dancing In The Streets'. My singing voice (words used
loosely there!) wasn't particularly good as I was knackered, but it was fun - although possibly not for everyone else listening... *g*

Saturday - visited Dealer's room and was very restrained *pats self on back*.
All the items I went to were excellent, including How To Buckle A Swash, which had afpers Orjan, Marco, Gideon and Ingvar demonstrating the use of some very sharp
stuff indeed, with the help of a vict- er, volunteer at one point. Maskerade costumes were excellent - the overall winner was Heather, Tors, Brian and Teddy as feegles in the act of making off with a 'sheep-beastie'.
Hedgehog party was fun, and featured various balloon games-cum-fights between...mostly everyone in the room, really. (It was at this point I came up with the slogan 'This is your brain on AFP...') The sight of two people dressed up as Carrot and Susan Sto-Helit, duelling with balloons, will stay with me for a while.
Oh, yes, and I had a swim and jacuzzi. Nothing to do with the Con, but they were nice :-)

Sunday - Unfortunately I missed The Church of Om, due to sleep. (Apologies to Jon Brierley of afp/LJ who wrote some of it.)
Tale event was handled well by the Tale authors. Guilds' Annual Dinner and Dance was worth going to. Toast and Jam was excellent as usual. Memorable bits included Eric Jarvis and Aquarion's 'Dedicated Follower of Fashion' (although Aq wasn't wearing anything disturbingly bright this time), and the band's excellent rendition of Stevie Wonder's 'Superstition'. Amps had to be switched
off at midnight, so the singing moved outdoors, led mostly by Menno/Flexor. I now know more Tom Lehrer songs than I ever intended to! (Note to self - learn
the words to 'Irish Ballad') We moved to the bar after it started to rain, where the singing was led mostly by Murky, and his knowledge of quite a large
amount of dirty songs...
All in all it was a good weekend and well worth going to.

And now for a quotefile...

"One, we've already done that song. And two, we didn't have the lyrics then either..."

"Glue makes a really good sexual lubricant..."
"It makes a really good sexual lubricant *once*."

"You can do a lot with four inches."

(Late on Monday) "The hotel's filling up with *normal* people!"

"You're cute. *Someone* was bound to jump you."

"Run away with me and become a lesbian!"

And me trying to get into a jacuzzi that was already turned on... "I can't see through the bubbles, I don't think there's any more steps- aaarrghhh, shit!" *Splash*

Did you know...
...that "afpers" is the Afrikaans word for blackmail?

And a very good word in any language for 'pleasantly mad folk' :)
