My memories of the Con
Roughly in chronological order, but the days have blurred together a bit, so may be a bit out in places.

- arriving at 6pm on Thursday night and being absolutely gobsmacked at being told that about 200 people had already arrived.
- the "William the Silent FUCK" episode during Clanwilliam's evil pub quiz
- being quite chuffed at having a bed with curtains around it, and then having a rather loud giggling fit at 2am when I rolled over and noticed the mirror over it.

- Supermouse gophering so efficiently that even when Ops said "Bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia" she managed it.
- trying to work out what to do when a brand new member wanted to register during the opening ceremony. (We sent him to Ops. They sent him back.)
- being driven to drink by the "Annotating Pratchett" session. Poor Aquarion....
- receiving back massages from several kind people in the bar in an attempt to cure my dodgy shoulder. And if you are the rotten so-and-so who took a photo of the silly faces I was pulling at the time, _please_ don't put it online....

- a really engaging hour of conversation with Dave Langford, despite the fact I hadn't even heard of half the books he was talking about.
- an informative and entertaining demonstration of swordplay from Orjan, gmh, Ingvar and Marco, including an object lesson in why it is important to find out what you are volunteering for before you do.
- some inspired casting and use of music in the cloggie film. St-Lemur as the go-between just seemed so right somehow, and Rolf and umlj could have a future as society bodyguards (or funeral directors) if they tire of their current employment.
- meeting lots of new people some of whose names I actually managed to remember. Although I had no such problem with allthat_jas, mainly because she made herself memorable by demonstrating an even greater talent for (allegedly) unintentional innuendo than me.

- the reaction to Clanwilliam's dress both when worn by its owner, and by Leo.
- Bruce's excellent introduction to the guilds before the Gala Dinner, especially the almost Paisleyesque crescendo to the Seamstress Guild one.
- lots of fun with the Alchemists guild, especially drug testing the other guilds, and Jos turning our wine pretty colours during the dinner.
- some great acoustic stuff during Toast and Jam - it's just a shame that the PA meant it was really hard to hear the vocals on a lot of the group numbers.
- an interesting conversation in the bar with the guy I'd registered on Friday night, who was of the opinion that attendees at DWCon were generally better looking and slightly more "normal" than most conventions he'd been to

- some truly painful poetry in the closing ceremony
- seeing trtl demonstrate his true alchemist nature by causing a big bang and destroying a round of drinks during the Dead Monkey party

It's weird really. I spent most of the Con feeling a bit under the weather and missed a load of the programme items for one reason or another. But if you ask me if I had a good time, I break into a big grin and say yes. I'm definitely signing up for the next one.

ah were you at the annotation item as well ? I must admit to being half asleep by that time and I expect you weren't wearing that magnificant red outfit I noticed you in later during the weekend.

I handle innuendo like I handle my men, with rubber and a generous helping of chocolate *g*

"- a really engaging hour of conversation with Dave Langford, despite the fact I hadn't even heard of half the books he was talking about."

yes - he is one of the sweetest guests to have. I was chatting to him at the afp party and he was mildly amazed as ever that people were interested in anything he had to say. After more awards for Ansible and other writing than you could shake a stick at.

"- some truly painful poetry in the closing ceremony"

I note that the perpertrator of the worst example had made his escape leaving the poem behind for us to hear.

- an interesting conversation in the bar with the guy I'd registered on Friday night, who was of the opinion that attendees at DWCon were generally better looking and slightly more "normal" "than most conventions he'd been to"

I hardly dare ask?

And many thanks to yourself, Rachel and Peter for babysitting the desk at times whilst I was scuttling off to check up Smaller Gods and admiring my daughter as a rat!
