Wear the Lilac - donation update 4-18
Wear the Lilac for Alzheimer's has raised over $500 for Alzheimer's research as of today. And by lucky happenstance, this week I found out from a co-worker that his wife is the director of the local Alzheimer's Association office in the town I work in, so I'm hoping to get some help from her in spreading the fundraising efforts. She has been very encouraging so far.

I am hoping to make the largest portion of the donation on May 25th, but for those who need a little more time, I will be selling pins as long as I am able, and my husband (my partner in donation-raising) and I may request permission to set up a Wear the Lilac sales table at the local Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk in September as well as speaking to a local book store about their help in the cause as well.

Wish me luck, and always, huge thanks to everyone here and elsewhere who have supported the fund raising efforts.

I won't be seeing my dad the day we wear the lilac, because he's at Partisan (an English wargames convention) that day. It's highly likely that a fair few people will query the lilac; d'you know if anyone's got any flyers or other informative leaflets we could print out for the day?

That's a fabulous idea! Since it's just me (and my husband) fronting the Wear the Lilac campaign, I don't have what you'd call a formal ad department. But here's simple one that might work for you.

If you'd rather have flyers that focus more on Alzheimer's, I would contact the nearest office of the Alzheimer's Research Trust and see what they might have on hand.

Mind if I use your icon?

All of the pins I ordered have arrived. (Mine is waiting for me at the post office...can't wait to pick it up!) My mother really loves the pin and said she will be wearing it quite a bit. She's not terribly familiar with TP's work (other than knowing that my husband and I are huge fans), but since my aunt has Alzheimer's, she's more than pleased to be supporting the cause and to have something different from the normal ribbon. So...well done, and thank you for doing this!

Feel free to take the icon, with credit.

I'm glad you like the pins and that they all arrived safely.

Hurrah! *proudly already wears her lilac*

Maybe it's an idea to send an e-mail to Neil Gaiman to post about Wearing The Lilac on his blog? He's usually cool about that, and you'd reach a lot of people that way.

Mind, it'll also probably mean a LOT more orders. :)

A lot more orders I certainly don't mind, but if I wrote to Neil Gaiman, the email would probably read "Dear Mr. Gaiman, I am trying to raise money for Alzheimer's research on behalf of Mr. Terry Pratchett by selling silk lilac pin - AAHHHHH!!! LOVE YOU!!!! OMG OMG OMG FANGIRL MELTDOWN!!!"

ETA: The email is sent, following the instructions on Neil's site. I managed to get the details out before collapsing into a puddle of squee, which I added in a P.S. It's no secret that I keep a Discworld novel and a Neil Gaiman novel within easy reach at all times. I had out my copies Small Gods and Good Omens like they're religious tracts.

Yay! I hope it shows up quickly on his blog. :)

And yes, Neil is <3. Good Omens doubly so!

We'll see. I've heard back from his "email all these requests to" person, and she was very kind and most encouraging. Yay!
