Posting this tiny little ficlet right now, because I've a number of busy days ahead of me, and I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to finish the longer idea I had for my prompt, nevermind post it, on time.

3/6/09 13:45 - [info]empty_mirrors - New Challenge

So June is upon us, bringing with her sunshine and flowers, creamy ice cream and the fresh crunch of salad, not to mention the scent of freshly mown grass and, of course, the sound of freshly moaning honeymooners.

Yes! You guessed it. June's [info]discoveredinalj is Discovered at a Wedding. Strange, possibly, for a predominantly slash comm, but have no fear; there are plenty of ways our boys can find each other and still have a wedding involved.

It might be a mate's do, or a royal one. Maybe a job or, if you really feel like pouring on the angst, one of the lads themselves getting hitched.

Need a prompt? Drop a comment and I'll try and give you an idea or two. Whatever you choose, we'll welcome your contribution be it a story, artwork, or a vid.

Posting for the challenge opens right now and closes at midnight on June 30th, Pago Pago time.

A quick reminder of the trailer to include at the end of your post:

3/6/09 08:42 - [info]byslantedlight - Discovered on a Hard Drive

Well, it's actually three months later, and our WIP-finishing challenge is over... Yeay for everyone who finished and posted WIPs - eight of them, that are forever rescued from the gloom and shadows of their hard drives, and are now proper grown-up stories and drabbles and drawings! Hurrah!

And well done to anyone who worked on their WIPs too, even if they didn't quite manage to post them (me too...) - they're that much closer, right? And I shall totally be looking forward to seeing all sorts of stories and creations posted to ljs and [info]the_safehouse and the like sometime...

Don't forget to post your stories to the Automated Hatstand, and send them off for ProsLib archiving too (artwork too!) - and there will be the usual challenge link on the [info]discoveredinalj User Info page.

In the meantime, it's June, and June can surely mean only one thing... Keep an eye out for the next [info]discoveredinalj challenge...

31/5/09 20:01 - [info]greengerbil - Discovered on a Hard Drive - Apology for abject failure...

Sorry, [info]byslantedlight - there is no way I'm going to make the deadline for Discovered on a Hard Drive.

Bugger.

What with Nattercon, and musters, and Pros-y friend visiting - it was all great, and fun, and I really enjoyed myself... and along with everything else, I have too much to write rather than too little! Hence the missed deadline. So there will be a new SP fic, hopefully of a respectable length, at some point...

Unless of course my betas throw it back at me with cries of 'Don't you dare post this, it's awful!' - which is something that frequently happens to me in nightmares, but hasn't yet in real life (No, I'm not going to think 'there's always a first time' - I'm not!)

Back to Paris, OK?

Okay...

31/5/09 10:19 - [info]melanieathene - Discovered on a Hard Drive - All the Pieces Fit

This double drabble was based on [info]all_unwritten's prompt #193: "all the pieces fit".

28/5/09 02:45 - [info]jaycat92 - 'Coming to the Party' by Jaycat for the Discovered on a Hard Drive challenge

Had been planning on arriving fashionably late because I hate to think of everyone looking at me, but real life intervenes and I’m away from now until after the deadline. If anyone is kind enough to read and comment, please accept my apologies in advance if I don’t reply for a few days.

29/4/09 23:12 - [info]byslantedlight - Discovered on a Hard Drive - Word Clouds and Encouragements...

I've been wondering how to remind people that there's just over a month left for posting WIPs to Discovered on a Hard Drive - is everyone leaving it to the last minute? Don't change your mind now! I know, I'm a bad example - I started a brand new one that's gone on forever at another comm *headdesk* But I haven't forgotten my WIPs, and thanks to [info]msmoat and [info]lukadreaming here's a couple (so far!) in Wordle form...

Would anyone else care to Wordle us their progress so far...? *g*

I couldn't figure out how to copy code over, so I ended up printing my screen and cutting and pasting and saving that way! How big an idiot was I being? *g*

2/4/09 23:33 - [info]diegina - WIP finished - a Bodie picture

I'd like to write something fancy, but I'm too knackered at the moment. So just the basics.

The post is here in my LJ. Nothing earth-shattering, just Bodie with his gun. You're free to download and print any version you want, just let me know if you like it or not. Thanks.

3/3/09 22:22 - [info]byslantedlight - Discovered on a Hard Drive

Ah, Spring - the snowdrops are out, the daffodils are thinking about it, and it's just a little bit warmer... Soon there will be skipping lambs, and fluffy bunny rabbits, and... well, nothing that was particularly inspiring us for the next challenge. We squinted into the earlier light of the mornings, we thought and thought our way through the later dusk of the evenings, but there was no Challenge muse... So we waited, we rested, we kept an ear to the ground and an eye out, and our wooden legs polished and ready, and...

...and there it was: The Meme. It slipped its way through our flists, it taunted us and tempted us, and now, finally - we have understood its message. A Challenge!
Discovered on a Hard Drive!

We thought this might be the perfect time to encourage some spring cleaning of your hard drives. Do you have a vid that's lying around half-finished? A drawing that you started, but the nose went wrong, and it never quite made its way back into daylight? A glorious Pros epic? A drabble with just three too many words that somehow was never fixed? An old calendar that was once meant for 2006, but time just seemed to pass you by?

Do you have plot bunnies fast asleep in your hard drive?

Discovered on a Hard Drive is your chance to exchange the dustiness of unfinished business for that glow of smug satisfaction - and for comments, and squees of joy from Dialj flisters! To join in all you need to do is complete the WIP meme in your own lj an example of which is here and post a link to it as a comment to this post to let us know that you have WIPs. Then go off and take a little time, and finish that Work in Progress! The meme can be adapted to use for vidders and artists - rather than posting a sentence, post perhaps a sentence of description for the artwork, or the title of the music being used for the vid. And when you're done post your creation to Dialj! Your finished, completed, sated creation!

Everyone who completes the challenge and posts a WIP will be awarded the Banner of Satisfaction, and we will be cheering you along the way too, because we're going to make this a longer challenge, a challenge with time for people to finish looooong stories, or detailled drawings - or multiple WIPs - in fact the more WIPs you finish and post, the better!

So - you can post any time after you've linked to your WIP meme post, and any time up until midnight in your own timezone on the 31st of May (and yes, there will be our usual flexibility to post up until midnight in Pago Pago time, but please don't post after that - keep to the spirit of the Challenge!) All of which means that this challenge will run for three months...

As usual, you're not committing to anything by commenting to say that you'd like to take part, or by posting the WIP meme to your own lj, but think how satisfying, how spring-clean-shiny you'll feel if you are able to point back to your WIP post, and say "I wrote those - they're done!"

One final instruction - as usual, please post a "trailer" containing the following information at the end of your creation rather than at the beginning. There has been discussion about this, and more thoughts and ideas are welcome in response to that post, but since we've not yet found a better solution that both provides warnings/spoilers for people that want them, and yet doesn't force them upon people who don't, trailers at the end of stories etc are still what is requested for now.
