Who Anthony and Terry
Where Ravenclaw common room.
When Tuesday, February 1, 1998, even
What Emooooooooo.
Ratings/Warnings Maybe PG-13 for swearing?

This year, Anthony hadn't really needed a good excuse to feel mopey or depressed. It came naturally with the Carrows being around and everything that was going on in the wizarding world. But the past few days, he had been even more mopey than usual. He didn't want to admit why. It was stupid, and it was selfish, and it was petty, and Anthony liked to think that he wasn't any of these things. He'd told everyone who said anything he didn't mind that most everyone had forgotten about his birthday, and it was true, in a sense. He didn't care about the presents, because he knew that nothing anyone could buy him would improve his moods that much. What was more important was the feeling of having been overlooked. No one cared about him enough to remember - or, at least, that's how it felt. And what's more, he couldn't help but think about what last year had been like. Last year had been a good birthday.

Anthony looked particularly glum as he sat in the Ravenclaw common room, curled up in a chair next to Terry, and staring listlessly at a Muggle Studies essay he wasn't even attempting to do properly (or - up to the She-Carrow's standard, to be more specific). His hand resting on his cheek, he waited for Terry to say something. Not that he would, necessarily, but maybe. It wasn't even so much that he wanted to whine about how he was feeling as that he wanted someone to express some concern.

MINISTRY RAIDS SHOP RUN BY BLOOD TRAITOR

  • Mar. 4th, 2008 at 12:06 PM

Tuesday, 4 March 1998

DIAGON ALLEY, LONDON, ENGLAND --- Following a tip by an anonymous owler, Department of Magical Law Enforcement officials conducted its largest successful raid to late last night at Madam Malkin’s Robes for All Occasions. Early Ministry reports indicate that three fugitive thieves of magic were captured and one killed when the owner of the shop, Morwenna Malkin, refused to surrender to a team of Aurors and Hit-Wizards.

Madam Malkin’s Robes for All Occasions was well-known for serving blood traitors and wizards of inferior birth but was spared a full Ministry investigation this fall due to various prominent workers’ testimony on the owners’ behalf, however, an anonymous owl sent personally to Muggleborn Registration Commission creator Dolores Umbridge’s desk indicated that Malkin was hiding wanted Muggleborns in the cellar of her store. When Malkin refused to allow Aurors to search her cellar in the early hours of the morning, they were forced to destroy the storefront in order to find a secret room where four Muggleborns were hidden. One of the Muggleborns, whose name has not been released to the public, was killed in the explosion.

Malkin has been apprehended and taken to Azkaban to await trail in front of the Wizengamot, facing charges of treason and harbouring fugitives. The three surviving Muggleborns, including the elusive former Wigtown Wanderers chaser Roger Davies, will stand in front of the Muggleborn Registration Commision today to face accusations of stealing magic.

Who: Dorrie Gulch and Rusty Stainwright.
What: Dorrie gets her house pride going.
When: Backdated to Saturday, straight after the match.
Where: Hogwarts grounds.
Status: Incomplete.
Rating: Y for Yay Slytherin!

Dorothy had adored the Quidditch match. Surrounded by her fellow green-clad supporters, she had screamed herself hoarse whenever Slytherin had scored, and celebrated similarly whenever a Gryffindor player was injured. They were so wonderful, those boys from her house who flew so well and won so often! Of course it wasn't her team who had caught the snitch, but what does that matter when they won? It looked for sure like the cup was theirs this year.

After the match, however, the majority of Slytherins had headed straight back to the common room for a celebration – or maybe they just didn't want to face the other houses. Either way, Dorrie had lagged behind slightly, and had now lost her friends. As much as she strained her neck, she couldn't see anyone; not Lydia or Melinda or Sonia or even Rusty. But nothing could dampen her spirit now, not even the fact that she was still slightly sniffly after Ginny Weasley had passed on that horrible disease. She had wondered vaguely why Ginny wasn't as upset as she probably should be after receiving that letter, but these thoughts were just dents in her little bubble. As she started walking back up towards the castle, there was a definate spring in her step.

Who: Alistair and Malik
What: Dastardly plans.  This thread had to happen sometime.
Where: Outside on the grounds.  Thank Merlin the Carrows still let the kiddies out.  But for how long?
When: Early Saturday afternoon
Status: Incomplete!
Rating: PG, so far

Of all of Alistair Urquhart's many quirks - of which he had quite a few odd ones - one of the strangest had to be the way that he actively tried to put himself in harm's way.  It amounted mainly to picking fights, playing rough, and failing to give two shits about his health.  Once the hints of winter began appearing, Alistair spent even more time outside than usual, often with little more than a thin windbreaker on, if even that.  The cold didn't make him particularly uncomfortable, and he usually found some way to entertain himself.  After five years of picking fights with his dormmates, his teammates, and everybody else, Alistair found that he didn't particularly need people.  He could just walk around and appreciate the dirt, he could attempt to make the Giant Squid play catch with him, and, if he was feeling particularly daring, he could traipse up to the owelery.  As it was, he'd engaged himself in the first activity: dirt-watching.

There was some cloud-watching involved, as well, and tree-watching, and the watching of basically anything else that could grab his attention.  But mostly dirt-watching.  He'd run out of the castle for no reason at all and now, hands tucked away in his pockets, Alistair wandered aimlessly about the grounds.  He kicked at a certain clod of dirt and it tumbled away from his foot and burst apart.  It was more exciting than Rusty Stainwright.

Who: Mandy and Anthony
Where: Ravenclaw Common Room
When: Yesterday, afternoonish
What: tea time!
Status: Threaded, incomplete
Rating: A for Anthony and M for Mandy. Awkward and mangoes?

Tea had the power to restore the soul, if drank in enough quantities, Mandy firmly believed. She was also increasingly convinced that in order for any soul to be restored this year, they would have to have an endless supply of tea. As actual care packages from home were not to be relied upon, hoarding had begun. And even when she'd been able to replenish her tea during Hogsmeade, it had seemed a victory won in vain. She drank it, but somehow there was no true pleasure in it.

And so, the offer of sharing it with others. Perhaps she was being selfish, but at this point she wanted to be able to enjoy her tea and if that meant handing a cup of it over to Anthony, Stephen, Tracey, or anyone (except, perhaps, Dorrie or Goyle at this point), she'd do it. And so, not long after she told Anthony she would be in the common room she was there, letting a pot of tea brew. There would be no milk, sadly, but that could be dealt with. Lost in thought, she leaned back into her chair, playing with the empty cup she held in her hands.

Who: Theodore Nott and Padma Patil
Where: Empty hallways, Hogwarts Castle, Scotland
When: November 2, 1998 (backdated)
Rating: PG-13 for language at most

Because Theodore was a shrewd individual, he had a feeling that the fact that he was doing prefect rounds with Padma Patil on his birthday was not merely a coincidence.  She, being one of those 'friendly' sorts who would think that things like birthdays were important, would want an excuse to deliver some sort of hand-painted card or box of chocolates in person, because it was his birthday, and that was somehow significant.  Of course, Theodore always remembered his birthday, whether or not other people did, because it was a difficult sort of thing to forget.  But since his father had been so busy with his Dark Lord-oriented tasks, and then being in prison, he found that the only person who much cared about his birthday was neglecting it as well.

This was much more comfortable than the uncomfortable wondering about if/when Padma was going to do anything about it.  He assumed she would, perhaps out of arrogance, or perhaps because she just seemed like one of those sorts of people.  They were friends - wouldn't they?  And he had a feeling that she was going to do something all... friendshiply.  As the prefect round wore on, he leaned against a wall, wondering why he had to waste his precious time patrolling for snogging fifth years, and twirled his wand around his fingers.

"Another evening we've wasted looking for miscreants who don't exist," he said, turning to Padma with an annoyed expression.  "How do you stand this year after year?"
