And, lastly because sleep is slamming me over the head, V joined LJ on the 2nd of March 2003. That's also where I left off, noting to self.
G'night. *thud* |

About Doctor Who purity.
On February 3rd, 2003 I took this test and these were my results: You answered "yes" to 23 of 50 questions, making you 54.0% Doctor Who pure (46.0% Doctor Who corrupt); that is, you are 54.0% pure in the Doctor Who domain (you have 46.0% Doctor Who in you).
Having just taken it again, this is what I got: You answered "yes" to 29 of 50 questions, making you 42.0% Doctor Who pure; that is, you are 42.0% pure in the Doctor Who domain (you have 58.0% Doctor Who in you).

| I want to believe...they could have made a better movie |
[Jul. 26th, 2008|12:59 am] |
Got together with some friends we've drifted away from -- Amy and Paul -- to catch The X-Files - I Want to Believe.
I wasn't really expecting much, after such a long wait since the series ended, and so therefore I wasn't too disappointed when I didn't actually get much. It was nice to revisit some characters that I have a longstanding fondness for. Gillian and David slipped back into their beloved characters like it was just yesterday that we last saw them on the series. Callum Keith Rennie continues in his efforts to infiltrate all of my favorite fandoms (Due South, Battlestar Galactica, now the X-Files). And Billy Connelly gave a fine dramatic performance as a defrocked priest who's having visions of a mystical nature.
But, overall, the plot was a muddle, Scully's story arc made very little sense, and the bad guys and their actions and motives were ridiculous. The appearance of Skinner late in the movie seemed like padding, and most of the new supporting characters were immediately forgettable.
Honestly, couldn't Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz have come up with something better than this with so much time to work on it since the series ended? Sigh...this is another one of those movies that really didn't need to be made. The pleasure of seeing Mulder and Scully again doesn't really serve as adequate counter-balance to a lame plot, awkward setting, minimalist set design. Frankly, I was bored.
I'll give this one just 2 out of 5 stars.
At least Amy, Paul, Becky and I had a really nice meal afterwards at Lincoln's brand new Texas Roadhouse restaurant. Becky and I had visited the one in Lansing, Michigan during MediaWest*Con, not realizing we'd be getting one back home within just a few months. Excellent food, although the atmosphere was a little loud to try to hold a conversation. But, we still enjoyed catching up with friends whom we hadn't seen much of in quite a while. Of course, it'll now probably be months again before we do something more with them, but we'll take what we can get! |

| Another cross-country move |
[Jul. 25th, 2008|07:58 pm] |
Well, we're in a hotel. The car is sold, the apartment cleaned, emptied and closed out. Our stuff is on a moving truck and will arrive after we do. The cat is comfortable and I'm hoping he keeps his cool on the airplane. Like us, he was grumpy while they took our stuff away. He had to remain in the bathroom the whole time, poor guy! We're going to try to avoid sedating him like we did last time, so we'll see how that goes. He loves the hotel, though!
So do I, for that matter. If I could live in a hotel, I totally would. Fun fact: I actually did for a couple of months when I was a kid with my mom, back in 1987. It was a great as you imagine. Never again, I fear.
My aunt is suggesting that the place (our new house) will be a mess when we get there, so we might consider staying in a hotel for a day or two. Guess we'll see what it's like once we arrive. I don't think it will be too bad. The fortunate thing is that there's already a bed and a couch in the place, which will help because I don't believe our stuff will arrive until the 30th or even the 1st. August 1st will also be known as the first day of my new job. I'm nervous! I'm also a little gun shy considering the experience I had in my last job. But I had a great time at Audio-Reader a couple years ago, and this job seems similar in style and size.
The best part about moving is that, even when you start out with a lot of stress, there is a measurable decrease over time. At the beginning there were so many things to think about and worry about, and now there's only a couple of things. And since they are inevitable, there's nothing to do but accept them.
Stephanie says I'm writing a novel, so I think I'll stop here. When I check in again, I will be once again a resident of Des Moines. :) |

Tonight was not a very good night for me. I decided to go and drive around to listen to the ballgame with my friend. I was gonna maybe meet up with that double date guy for some improper things but that wasn't going to happen since 1) Friend didn't wanna go and 2) It was too late when he called. And then my friend and I had this exchange around 10pm after the last out(don't worry I'll get to ballgame stuff in a few)
Me: You ready to head home yet? Friend: Not yet...still wanna hang out. But it IS up to you. Me: I guess
Just then I see the traffic light as it's right at yellow as I'm approaching the line. So I decide liek all RIers do to speed up so I don't end up stuck in the middle of the road when it hits red...well I also forget that it's the end of the month. End of the month translate into "Young rookie cops are trying to meet quota so they find the littlest thing to pull you over for" and so just as we're debating suddenly I see sirens and I'm all "Ahhhh fuck!" So I get pulled over. Cop comes over, he's wicked cute for one thing(but married) and I give him license and registration. He asks for my name and birthday and stuff, because I think he thought that I was drunk since you know "Young girl driving around and runs a red light on a Friday night = drunk" to them. I was a little flustered but not that bad. So anyways cop asks me questions, I get them right and stuff, he runs my info and I get off with a warning. He was really cool about it though. I did explain my situation a little bit and he just said simply "I understand that, just next time it's usually better to stop" and I was all like "Okay" so yeah. That wasn't fun...that also put an end to my night as well. And of course he had to pull me over as I'm going down this stupid hill by the tower. Laaaaame. But mehh he was nice and I got off with a warning so no real complaints here.
And to top it off, the Red Sox lost 1-0 to the Yankees. I wanna punch Joba in the face repeatedly for his crap he was pulling AGAIN vs Youkilis. Geez get over it Joba. Stop with the bullshitting. And had Josh not been pulled believe you me, there would've been retaliation. The bullpen did good, Josh did good just one run. And some of that can be blamed on Marty Foster for his really really really really really really really really shitty strike zone. This brings me to the one bright spot of today -- Mike Lowell going apeshit on the umpire. Ho-lee fuck was he fired up and pissed. I mean Mike Lowell was fucking RIPSHIT and went OFF on that fucker. That was epic. Only thing that could top that is JD Drew and that's really it. Lowell was going to off that fucker. Joba did pitch a hell of a game, but I don't give a shit. He got a lot of help from Marty Foster's giant strike zone...I dunno but it was just a whole crock of shit tonight. I'm kinda hoping this weekend goes by a lot better. |

| | This Is The Day - The The | ] | Well, my birthday was two days ago. (Thanks again Fifi! That made my day.) Um... I got some nice presents (comic booook stuff).
Yesterday I drove my family to Madison and went to the comic book store where I got "Runaways: Dead End Kids". Talking to the cashier was AWESOME. It's like I could open up the dam of comic book nerdery and actually TALK to someone who understood what I was talking about. I love that feeling. My stomach felt all funny. Later we drove to Barnes and Noble and I got the Metal Gear Solid novel. It's okay. Which is to say, I fell asleep reading it.
That's all I really have to say.
I have a crush on Robert Downey Jr.
Peace out. |
