| About: |  Welcome to the first and only community to honor the series of incredible and provoking DVDs, The Director's Label, from Palm Pictures. History The Director's Label originally came out in 2003, featuring the three directors who created the series: Chris Cunningham, Spike Jonze, and Michel Gondry. The series featured music videos that proved to a larger scale of audiences how deep these short clips could be. The DVDs, featuring other works besides music videos by the directors, turned into a huge success and sparked a second series, which featured the works of Mark Romanek, Jonathan Glazer, Anton Corbijn, and Stéphane Sednaoui. The Community The community is, of course, focused on the music videos, short films, artists and directors of the Director's Label series. Any discussion is welcomed and encouraged! There are minor rules, which are 1. to basically to mind other's preferences and opinions, and 2. to keep spam to a minimal, unless it is relevant to the community. Director's Spotlight For the first seven weeks of the community, we will be doing a director's special. Every Friday starting February 17th, we will introduce one of the seven directors. Then, every day until the following Friday we will select a video per day to discuss. This week:  Mark Romanek Mark Romanek is the most accessible of the Director's Label. The videos he has directed have earn music videos and the artists who star in them instant respect, as well as great interest in the medium. Romanek was born in Illinois, and at a young age decided to become a film director (after being heavily influenced by Stanley Kubrick, a man who he references to constantly in his work). After making the film Static he moved onto music videos, and a great career flourished from there. He went on to create many iconic videos, such as Lenny Kravitz' Are You Gonna Go My Way and Beck's Devil's Haircut. He is also the master behind some of the most heralded videos ever, such as Nine Inch Nails' Closer, Madonna's Bedtime Stories and Johnny Cash's Hurt. Mark Romanek has taken a hiatus from music videos, to move on to feature films. He recently directed the film One Hour Photo, and has done several commercials. However, words cannot describe what an impact he left behind for music videos.
