So I'm a huge cheeser...so bad for you (when you can't help having moret han one serving!).
I got these veggie cheese slices to put in my eggs and such. It only has 40 cal per slice, and hardly any fat. And with cheddar and Jalapeno falvors, they taste decent :) |

Blood Type Diet Takes Evolutionary Leap

I have permission from Broadway Books to distribute an excerpt from the revolutionary new book, "The GenoType Diet," by Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo, author of the blockbuster bestseller, "Eat Right 4 Your Type."
Dr. D'Adamo helped millions of people achieve better health through eating properly for their blood type. In "The GenoType Diet," his work takes an evolutionary leap. Based on years of research into human genetics, "The GenoType Diet" is a sophisticated approach to healthy eating and weight loss based on six common genetic profiles. Why six?
"Why are there four blood types," the author asks. He didn't make up these profiles -- they naturally surface through analysis of vast amounts of data connecting blood type, disease, and genetics. The six "GenoTypes" derive from genetically-encoded survival strategies that cause some people to hoard fat, others to be allergic to grains, others to have trouble digesting dairy products, and so on.
"The GenoType Diet" will help you quickly determine your GenoType using a simple questionnaire. Then Dr. D'Adamo provides nutritional guidance based on your genetic tendencies that can silence genes that trigger disease or weight gain while encouraging genes that boost immune response, retard aging, and so on.
The science behind gene stimulation and retardation is called "methylation" -- coating genes through diet to make them harder or easier to express. The excerpt I'm distributing explains how methylation works and how it relates to human nutrition.
You'll find the excerpt from "The GenoType Diet" at the following URL, or send me email and I will reply with the text -- and *only* the text -- no file attachments or opt-in mailing list jive:

I have been dieting since I was about 16, and nothing seemed to work. I tried restricting and starving myself, but that only led to binging. I exercised, took pills, was bulimic for a while until my parents got suspicious and threatened to take me to the doctor, but I never lost any weight. I learned that anything extreme just doesn't work. What did help was getting a personal, professional weight loss coach. She found my individualized diet that finally helped me shed the extra pounds. I am so grateful for her. You can find weight loss coaches at http://nutrition.bitwine.com?auid=24157&ctx=qa. Look around to see which one seems to fit your needs. It was very easy, I talk to her on skype from time to time to get advise. I couldn’t have done this without her. She motivated me and kept me going all along, she was great.

| » Saturated vs. trans fats? |
trans fat is bad, but how bad? This FDA Web page treats saturated and trans fats as roughly equal, advising consumers to add the grams of saturated fat and trans fat and look for the lowest combined amount. On the other hand, this AHA Web page recommends limiting saturated fat intake to less than 7 percent of total daily calories and trans fat intake to less than 1 percent (because it's that much worse or because it's easier to avoid or ... ?) I don't know what to make of all of this.

Hi everyone,
I have received permission from Phayra to share information with the group about a new community, paleo_health. I hope you'll come check us out. Paleo-lifestyle elements can be quite controversial so we often get some extreme responses to our invitations. These ideas are both very old and very new and our purpose is only to explore them and to learn from each other. Everyone is welcome, even if you're thinking, "Hell no! That paleo crap is ridiculous!" The best way to "cover" a topic is to do it with balance so if you know something to the contrarty please come share it with us.
My thanks again to Phayra for giving me permission to post this here, and to all of you for taking a minute to read it.

| » Dead Community...I hope not |
I am happy that I found a community deticated to healthy eating, excercing, and weight loss. So many out there on lj are deticated to pro-eating disorders that disgusts me. However, I am sad to see that no one here has updated in a while. So here I go...
For the past 21 days I have been eating healthy and excercising, I have lost about 10 pounds so far. Going from 210 to around 200lbs (the scale never gives me an absolute answer). I am pretty proud of myself. Every morning I have been getting up early to eat breakfast then going for a walk with a little running mixed in, combined with jumprope and a dance workout dvd.
Here's what has been working for me:
Drinking a lot of water
Having healthy snacks
Eating breakfast
Making a Food Journal LJ
Moving throughout the day as much as possible
And taking a multivitamin
I am wondering if anyone here has any more tips for weight loss success?

On Tuesday, my mom and I took an aqua aerobics class together and I really enjoyed it! :) I didn't really feel like I got much of a work out, though. I am just curious...does anyone know much about aqua aerobics? My mom thinks we got a good work out but didn't feel it as much since it was under water, and since we were having fun... I can buy that, but I'm just wondering if anyone knows more about it? And if it isn't much of a work out, what are some modifications I can make to make it a bit more of a challenge?
Also...off topic, sorry...I got my senior pictures back and I put a few of them on my personal journal. If anyone is interested, they can look at them and "vote" on which ones look the nicest? :)
One more thing...I am going to be taking this aqua aerobics class every Tuesday, and I am going to try lap swimming one night a week. Are there any swimmers in here who know certain types of foods better than others for fueling a good lap swim? I've heard (many times) that not all foods are swim-friendly (i.e. chili dogs) but I'm really familiar with this?

I just joined this community. I’ve been trying to get fit and eat healthy for a little over two weeks now. I’ve lost 4 pounds and I’m very proud of myself for that accomplishment. I’m hoping to lose about 35 pounds total. I started training for a 5K using Cool Running. I haven’t ran in four years (excluding when I started the program two weeks ago) and I want to start again. I used to be able to run for quite a long length of time over a variety of distances. Now I can barely run two minutes without wanting to collapse on the ground! I’m doing better, though. I can now run 90 seconds straight without feeling like I’m going to have a heart attack. I’m slowly working my way up.
I also started using a website called Spark People to help me keep track of my calorie intake and my exercise. It was a real eye opener to see just how many calories I was consuming in one day! Now I aim for somewhere around 1,500 calories. It’s been working for me nicely. Much better than any fad diet. I can eat what I want so long as I stay within the calorie range, and I still lose weight. I find it’s much better if I don’t restrict myself to certain foods. Once I start to consider some foods off limit, I start craving them and I’m doomed to failure.
So, it’s been about two weeks since I’ve been on this track to getting a healthier me, and I feel great!

this has been plaguing me for awhile, and sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but how unhealthy are nonfat frozen yogurt and smoothies (jamba juice smoothies)? and will they cause terrible weight gain? for several days within the last month i've had about 3 24 oz. smoothies in one day...the smoothies contained frozen yogurt, fruit, and either juice or soy milk. it happened again today...only in today's smoothies, none of them contained juice. i want to tell myself that they're still healthy and that it hasn't yet caused me terrible weight gain (i run about 1-1.5 miles a day excluding weekends so the carbs and calories i consumed from the smoothies didn't all just sit in my body, hopefully). those days that i did drink the smoothies i didn't eat anything else, and even those few days that i did i only ate sample size pieces of food. i won't be consuming anymore smoothies and/or frozen yogurt ever again and will be eating healthy meals from now on, but i'm afraid of the damage it may have already caused.
so...are they really that bad? the ingredients seem healthy, but i've heard people refer to smoothies as sugar shakes, which would be a bad thing. any advice or factual information?
thanks for all your help and sorry if i'm out of context.

Can anyone tell me if this is a good way to not only lose weight, but to stay healthy and tone my body?
Breakfast: None, too busy early classes.
Lunch: Plate of fruit: Grapes, pineapple, honeydew, and cantalope. Chocolate milk. Bagel with fat free butter.
Dinner: Plate of carrots. Turkey sandwich. Diet coke. Cup of cereal with fat free milk.
Snack: Bowl of dry cheerios.
Exercise includes machines for all major muscles and cardio for a half an hour. Then swimming and diving for an hour.

Hey guys! I really need to start a diet soon, for health purposes. I know that I need to lose weight because, medically, I'm not in good shape. I lack, however, a number of things, mainly motivation.
( story behind the cut )
Any advice, tips and kind words greatly appreciated. :)
