What the???!!!

  • Mar. 19th, 2009 at 8:48 PM

I found this really funny.

This website http://www.daemonsmovies.com/2009/03/17/rudo-y-cursi-movie-trailer-poster-with-diego-luna-gael-garcia-bernal/ has a poster of the movie Rudo and Cursi. Notice Diego's right hand? See where it is. It's totally been "photo shopped".

rudo_y_cursi_poster.jpg (569 KB)

Here is the original (Mexican) poster. See what he's grabbing? Yeah!!! That's what I'm talkin' about!

Poster_Final.jpg (407 KB)

I could be wrong, but to ME, it looks like someone altered the orignial poster because it was perhaps too offensive? It wouldn't surprise me. Americans are way too uptight. Ahhhh!!! Wait,,,. I'm American!  ImageHost.org

Since I've been running www.diegolunaloco.com for over two years, sadly, but thankfully, this LJ has become my preverbial dumping ground for when the site goes down and I feel the need to release my extreme displeasure with my web host.

Yes, StartLogic (the web host from hell) has jacked up my site again. I updated my site last night (as usual) and everything was hunky dory. Then today, POOF!  It's no where to be found. Nothin', nada, zip!

And do you know what's worse? When I called those nimrods at StartLogic, they had the nerve to suggest it was something I had done. (WTF?!!! Are you people on crack? If I could reach through the phone line and smack you people, I would. Hard, fast and continuously!) StartLogic is currently changing all of their customers passwords. (They didn't notify us first, of course. That would be good business manners.) I wouldn't be surprised if this had something to do with my site going down. They can't seem to walk and chew gum at the same time. Or just walk. Or just chew gum.

In any case, I'll post here in my LJ until www.diegolunaloco.com comes back on line. In case you were wondering, here's where you can send your hate mail... http://www.startlogic.com/

On a brighter note - the lovely Diego Luna - here are some scans I made from Complot magazine (December 2008 Issue). The magazine is mega big, thus the scans aren't the best.

This last nifty picture was found by my friend Cris! Diego is getting ready for the play, The Good Canary.  I seriously can't wait until this play is over, just because I hope he gets a haircut.

Random Goodness

  • Oct. 19th, 2008 at 12:52 PM

It's been a while since I posted in my old LJ. That's good news, since I usually use it when my site goes down and and I want to bitch about it. But my site has been working fine for some time now (knock on wood)... so here's just some general stuff about out boy Diego!

Oh yeah! I also took over a Gael Garcia fansite... www.gaelfan.net/  Check it out!

First, a poster for the film Rudo y Cursi. Second, Diego wearing a wig (thank God) for his role in Milk.

Lastly, I notice that when I access Live Journal with Internet Explorer these days, a little nasty thing called ad.yieldmanager wants to pop up. I've done reserch on this bad boy. It's not a virus, it's a tracking cookie from hell that likes to bump you from the site you're viewing. A couple ways around it: 1) Use Firefox instead. 2) Or change your IE privacy settings. I have it so that it prompts me when ad.yieldmanager wants to pop up and I can click "NO".

Diego is the father of a baby boy!

  • Aug. 13th, 2008 at 11:34 AM

Seriously!?!!!?

StartLogic has managed to "F" up my website again. I'm not able to make any updates to the site, and some pages (like the main page and the forum) keep giving out an SQL error message. So here I am again, posting on my LJ until they can fix the problem. <heavy sigh>

But on to more important issues...

Diego's wife, Camila, gave birth to an 8.1 lb. baby boy on Monday, August 11th, in a Los Angeles hospital. Accoring to online news sources, the couple has named their son Jeronimo. (Yes, you did read that correctly!) And since the child was born on US turf, he is a citizen of the United States. Always a bonus! Congratulations Diego and Cami!!

FINALLY!!! Back Online!

  • Jun. 24th, 2008 at 5:56 PM

Hola todos! The website is back online! FINALLY!!! If you can't see it, refresh your page, or dump your cache.

Day 4

  • Jun. 24th, 2008 at 11:22 AM
Hola todos! I don't even know if anyone is reading this LiveJournal, but I sure am finding it to be a very good outlet for me to blow off steam. It's day 4 of my website being down. I called StartLogic, my web host, again this morning. Each time I call, I get to talk to a new person and explain the problem my site is having all over again. It's like that movie Ground Hog Day. You know... repeat, repeat, repeat.

The StartLogic rep today said she could access my account with FTP just fine. So I said, "Oh, okay. Then please put the "contents" page back online." She could not. So the problem still persists. She did tell me that my ticket had been moved to the highest priroriety, "Catostrophic", and that they had it at the top of their list. Somthing about "catostophic" dosen't make me feel better.

I just went to look as some other pages of my site - the fourm, the gallery - as they have not had issues. But those pages aren't coming up now. It could be my lame connection at work, but who knows. And when I try to access my help ticket on StartLogic's site right now, it won't work. This just gets better and better. Like a bad rash.

I'm still looking for a new web host, but when I think I've found a good one, I read the customer reviews that say things like "avoid like the plague". Is that all that's out there? Just a bunch of mediocre web hosts. What has happened to this country? It's going to hell in a hand basket.

Okay, so now I'm rambling... When I get a chance (at home) I'll post some Diego stuff here.

Heat~

Site Still Down

  • Jun. 23rd, 2008 at 10:48 AM

Well, www.diegolunaloco.com is still down. Why am I not suprised!  This is the latest email I received my StartLogic:

Dear Customer,

I am contacting you about your site. We are currently having a problem with our servers, please allow 12-24 hours before modifying your site any further. Any changes made to your account can result in a loss of data for that specific page. If after 24 hours you are still reporting the issue, please let me know.

Oh, the part about the data loss... yeah, that's why the contents page of my site is blank. Not to worry, I still have my entire website saved on my computer and backed up. So if these guys ever get their act together, I should be able to put back the missing info.

For now I'm posting in my forum and here on my livejournal. To access the forum, you have to be a member and register. Check it out, if you haven't yet!

For the time being, here is a video of young Diego talking about Mexican cinema. Thanks to HeartLuna for sharing this link with me!

I also made some captures from this video. Peep 'em out here!

WTF?!!!

  • Jun. 21st, 2008 at 12:39 PM

Ahhhhh crap!! No otra vez! My web site http://www.diegolunaloco.com is screwed up again. I tried to upload (via FTP) the contents page and it wouldn't work. Now the whole page is blank.

Oh wait, it get's better! I just found this on my web host's site (StartLogic):

Please be advised that we are currently experiencing some technical issues with FTP. Our engineering team is working towards fixing the issue.

We regret the inconvenience this may have caused you. We'll update this message with any further developments.

Thank you.   06/20/08 at 14:11 ET

Working

  • Jun. 15th, 2008 at 9:10 AM
Hi ya! Well, the http://www.diegolunaloco.com site was only down for about 2-1/2 hours back on June 7th. Thankfully my web host got a clue and fixed it. But can I just say, Damn it I hate when that happens!!!

Moving on... Can anyone sugget some good video editing programs. I have Windows Media Maker, but it's not really doing what I want it to do. What I'd like to do is edit the "extras" from Dirty Dancing Havana Nights. Right now I have the files saved in MPG and WMV format, but they are HUGE! So any suggestions you all may have would be greatly welcome.

With that I leave you with these babies. Scans from the script book of Y tu mama tambien (that I won on eBay from a seller in Mexico).

Hey Lunatics!

In case you have been trying to access http://www.diegolunaloco.com today and can't, it is because my web server is having some problems. This is what they told me...

"We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. Currently, we have an issue with our server. Hence, you are experiencing the issue with your Web site. Our highest levels of management are engaged and working with to get the issue resolved. The issue with the server will be resolved as soon as possible."

Ya think? How 'bout I get a discount on the fees they charge me for their services, or lack there of. Remind me to get a new web host. These guys suck!

Anywho... here's a pic of Diego (at age 22) to ease the pain.

  • Nov. 22nd, 2006 at 12:25 PM
Yesterday’s poll has now been concluded and I would like to extend my gratitude to those who participated. The responses were varied and gave me what I needed for the feature. By the time I had to depart, yesterday, I already had a very good idea as to the direction of the feature and mulled it over during the course of the afternoon.

Again, thank you all very much. It was very appreciated and extremely helpful.

A poll on Mexican film.

Currently, there's a poll on Mexican film being run; it's not open for long, and the results might be interesting to say the least.

All results are anonymous and will be used for an article (for lack of a better word) regarding Mexican film.

Carlos Bolado Interview

  • Oct. 10th, 2006 at 3:41 AM
Interview with Carlos Bolado, director of Solo Dios Sabe
FilmFestivalToday.com  ~  25 August 2006

FFT: What inspired the making of the film?
Carlos Bolado: The fascination that people have towards the culture and history of Brazil inspired me. As a teenager, my father Jorge Bolado, a fan of famous Brazilian writer Jorge Amado used to give me his books to read. While filming BAJO CALIFORNIA, I met a Brazilian film director and his producer in France. In 1999, at Sundance Film Festival premiere screening of BAJO CALIFORNIA they approached me and said “I want to produce a movie with you in Brazil”, and I said “of course”! At first, I had to learn the Portuguese language while writing the script. I decided to begin the story in San Diego, then Mexico (Salvador Vijiar, my father's hometown), and lastly in Brazil.

FFT: What has been the audience reaction of the New York Premiere film?
CB: As I sat in the theatre as part of the audience, the applause at the end of the film was a positive reaction that was communicated. The audience reacted to the emotions of love and grief when I expected them to. As a director, I wanted to convey these emotions in the film because in life, just in one day, you can experience these feelings.

FFT: How long did it take to make the film?
CB: It took five years to make the film. In 1999, I began writing the script and ended in 2001. In 2003, we began shooting the film and ended in 2005.

FFT: What was the visual style of the film?
CB: The film conveyed the passage of time, water and the colors of Oshun gold and yellow (Afro-Brazilian Goddess of fertility, sweet water and dance). Most scenes were filmed by the river because Dolores (Alice Braga) was the daughter of Oshun.

FFT: Did you have any input in the character role selection for actress Alice Braga?
CB: Yes, I began auditioning in Brazil and San Francisco. I received Alice credentials via email. She was very photogenic and perfect for the role Dolores.

FFT: Where was the location of the film shoot?
CB: Basically in three countries and five cities. San Diego, CA; Tijuana, Michoacan, Mexico City, Mexico; Sao Paulo and Salvador da Bahia, Brazil. The three languages were English, Spanish and Portuguese.

FFT: Given the unusual settings, what were the difficulties in making the film?
CB: The logistic of filming in three countries, the use of three languages and the finance. The budget was $3 million.

FFT: What film festivals was SOLO DIOS SABE introduced?
CB: In 2006, it premiered at Sundance Film Festival, Chicago Film Festival, New York International Latino Film Festival, Seattle Film Festival, Guadalajara Film Festival, Mexico; and San Sebastian Film Festival, Spain. FFT: Any interest from film distributors? In September 2006, it will be released in Mexico. In spring 2007, Palm Pictures http://www.palmpictures.com/
will release the film in the United States.

FFT: Carlos, when and what year were you born?
CB: 1964 in Vera Cruz and grew up in Mexico City, Mexico.

FFT: Where and what did you study?
CB: In the 1980's, I studied sociology at the International University and cinema at the School of Cinema. I began editing feature films, which included LIKE WATER FOR CHOCOLATE.

FFT: At what point in your life did you become interested in the film industry?
CB: At the age 17. I basically grew up working in the film industry as the sound guy, boom guy, researcher and film editor. In my 30's, I moved to San Francisco, CA and I currently have a child.

FFT: What films have you directed/written and what is the total number of awards honored for each?
CB: In Mexico, BAJO CALIFORNIA received 7 Academy Awards and PROMISES was nominated for an academy award.

Por Dios!!!!

Hey chicas!  I saw Solo Dios Sabe last night. Like the nerd that I am, I scanned the ticket. When we got to the theatre in LA, they didn't have my name on the will call list (computer glitch). The film was starting soon and my ticktet confirmation was in my car.  We told the guy at will call we'd driven up from San Diego and he gave us our tickets. Then, rather than wait in the huge line outside, we got into the theatre early.  All because my best friend had to pee. LOL  Then we hid in the bathroom with two Mexicanas and snuck into the theatre early. It was so high school. But we're talking 'bout Diego here! (You know you'd do it too.)

The film was amazing! Can Diego look any more handsome? The film had some humorous parts where the audience laughed out loud. Great script and well executed acting and directing. I want to tell you all about the flick, but I don't want to spoil it either. After the film, Carlos Bolado (director) spoke to the audience. He said everything in English, then rapidemente en espanol. Diego was not in attendance, I'm sorry to say. But he could have gotten there by plane in the same 3 hellish hours it took us to drive. But seriously, seeing the film was reward enough. (I lie; Diego in person would have been better!) Oh, and Carlos said the film wouldn't be shown in US theatres until next year. April 07 maybe? He said it's because a film that's predominately Spanish and Portuguese won't go mainstream in the US. It's a shame because it is such a beautiful movie. And I think of all the crap English spoken films that get made and shown globally.

Hola todos!  I'm going to see Solo Dios Sabe in LA tonight.  I'm so excited.  I wish everyone could go with.  My site is still under construction.  We're still tweaking it, but it's coming soonly. Here's an article that I recently translated from Spainish.  Read article here!  Español aquí: http://www.buscajalisco.com/bj/bjfiles_archivo/diego/diego.htm

Diego does theatre in Mexico City

  • Oct. 4th, 2006 at 12:47 PM

30 September 2006

Irineo Álvarez will act along side Diego Luna. The performer will take part in the staging of Festen, which will enter the entertainment (billboard) in Mexico City on November 2.

In the story, Diego Luna plays Cristian, the younger brother of a family that meets to celebrate the 60th birthday of the patriarch, without suspecting that something terrible and lamentable will happen. Meanwhile, Irineo Álvarez will give life to Helmut, the adopted son of the patriarch (Luis Rábago) and at the same time, the brother of Diego Luna.

The staging will be directed by Martín Acosta and it is based on the movie of the same name Dogma, directed in 1998 by Thomas Vinterberg and adapted for the theater for two years.

And speaking of excessively large vehicles... some big dumb ass (pardon my English) car pulled out in front of me on the highway last night.  I swerved to miss hitting him and my car fish tailed all over the place.  Then another car ran into my rear.  And the pendejo that caused the whole thing drove away. No one got hurt and my bumper is only a little scratched.  But I seriously thought that was it, folks. Another one bites the dust... Hasta la bye-bye.  My whole crapy life flashed in front of my eyes and I thought... I can't die until I see Solo Dios Sabe!

Old TV captures

I also recently found this pic of Diego at the 2004 Guadalajara Film Festival.

For Cuarón's next movies, the original one from the Mexico City will work again with the young stars of  Y tu mamá también, Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal.

“We are always in constant contact. There is a project in particular that my brother Carlos is directing and I am producing, that he is writing. For the time being it is called Rudo y Cursi (Rough and Pretentious) and is a story of rivalries between brothers in the context of football," he said.

Independencia de Mejicano

  • Sep. 16th, 2006 at 7:16 PM

In honor of Mexican Indepence Day (Sept. 16), mi amiga Horte from Mexico City has seen Sólo Dios Sabe and offers her first review, without giving too much away!

Review of Only God Knows:
The movie is good, it is a movie of love and one notices the style of Carlos Bolado. The script has some weak moments, I believe that it included too many topics. Nevertheless, it is very recommendable. See it!  With regard to Diego, oh God! The love scences come out great with this boy!  As soon as the DVD comes out, let's buy it!!  His character is so sweet, a little immature, very sweet. And he has great chemistry with Alicia Braga. Very good acting by both. The principal topics are love, orphans and faith. He looks very handsome, a little thin, but very nice, especially when he smiles. This boy has something in his eyes that makes it so you can't stop looking at him on screen.
