 You know what really grinds my gears? People who order specialty items in the fast food drive through - at the window. At peak hours. And can't find their wallet. This is a little like pushing a cart laden with $200 worth of groceries through the only express checkout lane the afternoon of the 4th of July when all the other lanes are full too, screwing over the people who actually have 15 or less items. Especially when you want to write a check (or you count your change out to the penny! ugh! who DOES that?), and everyone else already has their credit/debit card ready to go. Seriously, think of others. If there are 6 cars (that have all lined up since you ordered at the window 12 minutes ago), ask if you can pull forward and have them bring it out to you. Or go inside and order like a normal person. WTF. Maybe if you have several hyperactive 8 year olds in the minivan, then I can understand being wary of letting them loose in a restaurant. But two full grown adults who grew up with fast food and drive throughs? Show some fucking courtesy people. I'm talking to you, Mr. and Mrs. Tan Chevy Suburban in the Burger King drive through. Flowchart: Burger/Fries/Coke order? Yes ---> drive through ok No---->Is the drive through busy? Yes---> go inside! or pull forward asshole! No--->Drive through ok |

Look, honey. Morlocks! The summer heat has finally set in and you work in Downtown Dallas. What's the best way to beat the heat? Easy, don't go out in it. I'm sure those of you working downtown already know about the tunnel system. But, it seems to me that many people only know about small sections of it. I've been using a lot since the closing of the Akard train station, as it's a nice way of getting from point A to point B without dealing with the West End station. It's also nice for lunch-time. There are a few maps online, ranging from the somewhat pointless (pdf) to a reproduction of the brochure I used to carry with me back in the early 90s when I was taking classes at Business Magnet. Some of the building names have changed (e.g.: One Dallas Center is now the Patriot building), and some of the buildings on the map aren't even there anymore, but the tunnels are still good and filled with little restaurants and shops that make that hour in the middle of the day a little more pleasant. Ah yes! Tomorrow at noon, a kid's going to play the cello at Thanksgiving square at noon. That's got to be a nice way to spend lunch. At least this time, she won't have to worry about rain. |

Trumpet lessons?
Does anybody know a good beginner trumpet teacher in the North Dallas/ Plano/ Richardson area? I've gotten 1 number from a local music store but I haven't heard back from them. My nephew wants to switch over from choir to band and we're hoping to get him in private lessons as soon as possible to get him a head start before the next school year. If anybody knows a trumpet player who's patient with kids and absolute beginners and or knows a school in the area that they trust and teaches trumpet please share! Thank you! |

Free ceiling fan parts
I have most of the parts for two ceiling fans -- motor housings and blades (white), blade arms and light kits (polished brass), glass (8 pieces), all the little screws and parts -- everything EXCEPT the actual fan motors. Maybe someone just wants new blades or glass, or is going to build a robot and needs the casing, I don't know. It's all free!

Now that we have electricity again...
I want to give a shout-out to the Rent-A-Center truck driver from yesterday who hit the pole at Hampton and Winton, obliterating the pole, messing up the neighbor's yard (good thing you didn't hit their house!), leaving only six feet of skid mark on the road, knocking out power from 5 pm to 1 am, and shutting down Hampton right before rush-hour.
Next time you loose a contact, pull over. |

Hello All! Freecycle or Trade request. Looking for a small patio set for my tiny front patio and an average sized one for the back. Have large dogs that think anything in the backyard is meant for their enjoyment (i.e., chewing) so Very hesitant to put anything new out there.
