| Description: | Because rarepairs deserve love too! |
Have you ever gone looking for a pairing that few people seem to write--like Carlos Ramirez/Morgan, Harry/Bianca or Lily/Maeve? Have you ever considered writing such a pairing but not done so because you feared that no one would be interested? Have you ever wanted to explore another pairing but never had the opportunity? Then
df_rarepairs is the place for you! Here, we celebrate and honor the less common pairings in the Dresdenverse.
What is considered a rare pairing?
A "rare pair" is any couple that is unusual, unconventional, or has a significant lack of fanfic or art dedicated to it. Rare pairs can be made up of two main characters, such as Harry/Marcone, or include one or more of the obscure canon characters, as in Aleron LaFortier/Helen Beckitt. Rarely written canon pairings such as Michael Carpenter/Charity Carpenter, Thomas Raith/Justine and Bob/Winifred also count as rarepairs. Basically, if you have trouble finding fic or art featuring a certain ship, chances are it's a rare pairing.
Which pairings aren't rare pairs?
Due to the small size of the Dresden Files fandom, there are a vast number of rarepairs and a couple of major ships. Here is a very short list of the more common pairings to date:
Slash
Bob/Harry (TV-verse)
Het
Harry/Murphy (book and TV-verses)
[Definition of a rare pairing taken from the profile of
hprarepairs. I couldn't improve on that.]
Added January 25, 2009:
Can I post a non-rarepairs story here?
My automatic reaction is, "What's the point of posting non-rarepairs to a rarepairs community?"
If the main pairing or pairings aren't rare, then NO. No, you cannot.
Minor pairings can be non-rare. But they have to be VERY VERY MINOR. If the non-rare pairing is of equal importance with the rarepairs, then it's a main pairing and not allowed.
There's already been some confusion regarding what's allowable, so from now on, posts will be moderated before being posted. I hate to do this--but people need to understand that rare pairs are RARE.

RULES FOR THOMAS'S BIRTHDAY CHALLENGE
1) Signups will be held January 15 to January 21, 2009.
You may begin posting February 13, 2009. (It seems appropriate to have postings for a pairing exchange start on Valentine's Day weekend.)
The last posting date is February 28, 2009.
2) Male/male pairings, male/female pairings and female/female pairings are all encouraged, provided the characters in question are canon characters. Canon character/OC main pairings are not allowed.
(In other words, it's perfectly all right if, for example, Harry or Molly has a brief date with an original character. However, the OC cannot become the main focus of the story and the love of Harry's or Molly's life.)
3) The story or artwork for the challenge must be new. There's nothing wrong with posting old works containing rarepairs--just not for the birthday challenge. If you think a prompt would help you, just ask and I'll provide you with one.
4) Stories must be at least 1000 words.
5) Both stories and art should be placed behind an LJ-cut.
6) Ratings (from G to NC-17), warnings if any, and pairings must all be in the header of the work:
Title:
Book or TV?:
Pairing(s):
Word Count:
Rating:
Warning(s):
Summary:
Author's Notes: (optional)
7) It's very hard to operate in a vacuum. Remember to review and comment on each others' work. (For the benefit of any non-member trolls who may be reading this, I am presuming that we are all adults here. I know that reviews and comments will be on-topic and courteous [even con crit], and that flaming others' work and other trollish activities will be considered too tacky for words.)
8) Have fun!
