There's an artist, Nathalia Edenmont, who kills cats, mice, doves, RABBITS, and other animals, mutilates their bodies, and then takes their photographs. She's on exhibit, among other places, at the Wetterling Gallery in Sweden. She has taken the top halves of five white mice and made them into finger puppets. She beat a cat to death with a stick. And this is called art. This is not only inhumane, but morally reprehensible.

This is grotesque. This is a crime. There should be a sentence for this. I am a major animal lover and I didn't dare to click on the links I am sorry. But I will repost it. And I almost cried when I read it.

If they where dead by accident or something, it would be morbid but they would be dead already, the prob is that she kills them just for this, not to eat or anithing, its stupid.

I am no animal lover per se,though I do have a mental black cat.
I fully support animal expreimentation(humanely) to alleviate the suffering of Human Beings.....BUT...this person is a monster.
Animals abused in this fashion is wrong from every point of view you care to look at it,spiritually, morally, artistically(?) and ethically.
That's not a human who performs in this fashion, its a subhuman throwback.

actually, yeah. theres that cannibal case in germany, and a performance artist from the 60s or 70s used to cut off his own limbs for arts sake.

you support "humane" animal testing? such as?

i once saw a squirrel run over not 10 feet in front of me. i was pretty devastated initially.. until i realized that my very existence as a white american has already misplaced (from their natural environments) and killed thousands of plants and animals.

im not a vegan. i eat meat and poultry produced at factory farms. i dont wear fur, but i dont look at labels to make sure that there are no animal products.

you do not kill these animals by your own hand, because that would be something your brain cant reconcile away. instead, we live in ignorance of the slaughter we support with our inaction and lack of consciousness.

if her work disturbs you, perhaps you should look a bit past the visceral reaction. shes not the biggest criminal when it comes to animal slaughter.

i am slightly turned off by her work but i can understand the reasoning behind making such art.

and yes it is art, just not the kind that most people would want on their wall.

Art has a limit no?
A cat does no harmm to human except when harmed, so she had no reason to do that, art is no excuse, if it was so I suposse Mister Vlad the impaler was a bloody great artist impaling people, at least people do stupid things and deserve such actions even if they are not harmed .

So... if I killed you and wear your head in top of a bucket, just to take a photo its ok?
imagine we live on a canibal world and someone kills you just to take photo, if you where dead in an accident or shit like that ok, but killing without neccesity its totally stupid.Talking on necessity i need bones to make my runes, so if you dont mind getting killed to do "art" please come to Portugal, I´ll wait :)

Even if there were thousands of signatures, I don't think she would give a frog's fat arse. I wouldn't.

After all, isn't this the sort of reaction she's looking for? ;)

it's beautiful and distrubing, btu it definatly is art. you make it sound like she's taking pictures of the blood and guts, when it's more of taxidermied animals. the dead cats upset me slighty but that's becasue I really like cats. but wven you think about it, it's no differt then a rabbit's foot charm or rabbitfur mousie for your cat, experiment on mice or feeding mice to a snake. as long as she didn't torture the animal or is posing them in a sadistic/sexual manner, I don't see the huge problem.

Prepare to be flamed
[info]kingnat
2004-10-28 03:48 pm UTC (link)
Exactly.
Most of the people complaining about it have no actual idea about what actually happens, why certain animals are chosen etc. They just see the "cute animals" and therefore it's a horrific thing.

Of course they then make up tales about the manner in which the animals are killed in order to stir up a reaction against her.

So tell me how is this morally reprehensible if the animals did not die in an inhumane fashion?

i think this work is largely conceptual. judging them simply based on their aesthetic merits is, to a large part, missing the point.

i think this artists medium is the minds of her audience. i dont think she is trying to create an image that is understood on its own, i think she is trying actively to create a reaction, like this conversation.

You say she's beaten a cat to death - where did you hear that? I would be very interested in knowing if that is true or not, because that would greatly influence my opinion on her work, but because you offer no proof of this claim, I am lead to believe it is not true.

As it stands, this woman lives in a 'first world' sovereign nation, and places like that tend to have laws against cruelty to animals. I imagine she has a taxidermist license and humanely euthanizes the animals. Unless she's displaying still pictures of her actually killing the animals in some grotesque way, I don't see the problem.

I would just like to point out that you, joking or not, asking people to come to your home so that you may kill them, simply because their opinion differs from yours on this matter, is extremely immature. If you're getting all riled up about mouse finger puppets, but think it's acceptable to say you're going to cut off someone's head and take a picture of it, then you seriously need to sort out your priorities.

I just wanted to point the fact that killing an animal is easy , that´s why I invited that guy to my house :).
And if you see history its more natural to decapitate a human than a animal.
