    RADIO DEVON goes DRM!
The BBC and National Grid Wireless have announced today a trial of a new transmission technology which will allow the two organisations to assess the practicality of digital radio services in the medium-wave bands. The trial, which will last for a year, will be centred on Plymouth.

From the end of April, the BBC and National Grid Wireless will re-use a current medium-wave frequency (855KHz)in the Plymouth area to broadcast a trial digital service using the digital radio mondiale (DRM) standard. DRM is an emerging technology which has been designed to facilitate digital radio at frequencies below 30 MHz. The BBC, which has been involved in the engineering research and development of the standard over the last few years, already makes the World Service available on short-wave using the technology to some parts of western Europe and north Africa.

Moor to Sea at Twenty Three
Twenty Three years on and the station is still developing, with FM coverage from the moors to the coast, and now with a new FM transmitter and service for Plymouth (95.7MHz). Some of the kit is now very old, and everyone awaits full digital refurbishment.
Jim White - station Engineer retired in January and Gary Wright took over the reins.
More pictures and some history will be added to this site soon.

    WHAT'S NEW AT TWENTY TWO!
22 years old - the needles are still wagging. So what's new - Plymouth now has its own morning Opt (again) - but now on 855kHz and on DAB, and in the not too distant future it's own FM service. Plus listeners from around the world on the web-streaming service.
Digits abound, they're everywhere now, apart from the microphones which still use bit's of string.....

    HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY!!
Exeter's "Broadcasting House" Studios were officially opened 21 years ago today by DG Alisdair Milne.
The building is still going strong with it's original studios and desks, and much of the original wiring.
Although no longer the main control centre for Broadcasting the studios still output half of the daily programming.
