| About: | Hindsight is more powerful than Shinigami eyes. Welcome to the Death Note Re-Read Community! Feeling nostalgic to the good ol' days of Death Note's Jump serialization? Want to experience the series in a whole new light? Looking for peers for passionate discourse on a classic manga's literary aspects? This is a community dedicated to re-reading the entire Death Note (Ohba Tsugumi and Obata Takeshi) manga, one chapter per week, and engaging in discussion about each chapters' events, characters, and themes, all in context of the entire series. RULES :: 1) Do not post new topics unless you are assigned a chapter or special topic post for that week. Comments on existing topics are fine. 2) Keep discussion mature-- excitement is encouraged, all-caps squealing is not. In the same vein, posts and comments should remain as fandom-free as possible-- no posting fanworks and no rabid shipping. We are here to discuss text, not to fanboy/fangirl. (If you are looking for good fandom-based Death Note communities, ![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif){kind=small} death_note and capslock_dn are good places to start.)2.5) This goes without saying, but play nice. Disagreeing with other opinions is not the same thing as flaming. 3) Members may read from any version of the Death Note manga. Please do not post full chapters or links to full chapters. 4) Because this is a re-read community, beware of spoilers. First-time readers are more than welcome to join and take part, but read commentary at your own risk. Format a) The community reads one chapter of Death Note a week. On the last week of each month, in addition to the schedule chapter, there will be a discussion post on a "special topic." b) One person will sign up for a chapter assignment or a special topic assignment between 2 weeks and 2 months in advance, in this topic (http://community.livejournal.com/desuno_reread/288.html). This individual will be responsible for posting a summary and commentary on the Thursday of his or her chapter week. A reminder will be sent out to the poster one week before the deadline. c) Chapter assignment posts should include the following elements, if relevant: summary, list of characters involved and introduced, Death Note rules involved, any literary commentary, the reader's impression of the chapter, and whatever else the discussion leader feels is necessary. Relevant images may be attached. d) The monthly special topic will be decided at the beginning of the month by a moderator; however, if a member who would like to host that month's special topic post has an alternative, he or she may propose it to a moderator, who will either approve or disapprove of the substitution. Suggestions for special topics are welcome. Content for special topic posts are up to the poster's discretion, provided that they address the topic, provide the poster's thought and commentary on the subject, and raise relevant and thought-provoking original questions. Possible special topics include character studies, theme or symbolism studies, literary aspects, sequential art aspects, etc. | |
