& I wanted to show my love for Nana. I started reading it in the Shoujo Beat magazine that recently debuted in the US in July I believe, so what better than to make an icon? XD.
We'll be going from this, to this:
, made in Photoshop Elements [because CS is being a rere], but should be relatively easy to translate. Yeah thats right, ANOTHER vindicated icon. DAHAAHAHAHA. XD. I dont even like Dashboard Confessionals all that much.... anyways.
1) Im gonna crop it down abit so it focuses more on the lovely Miss Nana, then downsize it, so the height is 100 px. I sharpened it once, and here's the product so far:

2) Open a new white 100x100 canvas, and copyxpaste the image unto it. I'm going to move it to the far right, so we have some space on the left for more icon fun. The product so far:

[>>;. Damn white on white canvases.. ]
3) Create a new layer, but dont click onto it. Instead move back to your image. Get your little mr.pixel tool, which generally looks like this, and make a simple 2-5px wide copy of the image. Desaturate it, then paste it onto the opposing side. The product so far:

4) Create a new layer, and fill it with #0B394F. Set the layer to exclusion, at 20-25% opacity. Create another layer, fill it with #EDE4BA, and set it to Linear Burn, at 80% opacity. The product so far:

5) Rotate the entire canvas right, 90 degrees [*just gave a geometry lesson* XD] & add your text. I used a font thats becoming very popular, called Dyspepsia, which Im pretty sure you could find @ dafont.com. Then, to match the name, I added some lyrics from the song. :P. Even though it kills my brain every time I hear it on the radio.

6) Paste in this [made by the AWESOME
Finished product:

& Wala! :). Pretty amazing how much a texture can affect your icon, ne? Im positive your icon wont turn up just like mine did, you may want to mess around with the layers & opacity on your icons, but I do hope you found this helpful.
I'll gladly answer any questions anyone has, and if you'd like to see another icon of mine broken down into steps, let me know. :3. ♥.

Yay, it's PINK. I did really weird things to it. Yes, light effects and screen gradients are my best friend. But now it looks nothing like yours D:! Yours is nicer xD;;.
Anyway, thanks for the tutorial *hugs*
