Everyone is NOT a Graphic Designer...
I went to a meeting yesterday for an engineering student group that I used to be a VP for. Now I'm just advising them and helping out, especially with their website and graphic design needs. I wanted to work on making some vector graphics for them and do some other graphics work since the summer, but never had a chance. The group has been looking for a student, any student, with graphic design skills since the start of this semester, but I guess those are hard to find in engineering. Figures.
The group has to make a large banner by the end of November and they were desperate, so they opened the design up to all the members and asked them to submit potential designs. Yesterday I managed to attend their meeting and the president unveiled the 9 possible designs entered.
Can you see where this is going?
8 of them had WordArt. 2 of them had the old university logo, which is no longer allowed. 2 had the new university logo, which is usually not allowed without expressed permission. 8 had random JPG backgrounds, usually one color (red) photos. The one that the group liked best was a copy/paste of our GIF site logo onto a plain red background. All were terribly pixelated at their 800x200 pixel size... nevermind we are talking about a banner measured in FEET.
I guess the president really just did all that to issue a cry for help directly towards me. She had me at Wordart anyway. Last night I contacted my graphic design friend who is going to take the website header and vectorize it so we can submit that to the banner company. Organizational image/future/dignity *saved*.
