Russian Constructivist Propaganda
I am absolutely incapable of telling you how much I love Russian constructivist art. :) Doing so would require me to wax philosophical, and therefore become something other than simplistic and geometric in my delivery. THAT is how much I love it. :)

Behold:

From "The Mind and Face of Bolshevism", René Füllöp-Miller, London 1926.

The NEW ERA is upon us! WE MUST BUILD for the FUTURE!

Muahahahaha.... YESSSS!!! YESSSSSSS!!!! Transform the churches into ENGINEERING STRONGHOLDS!!!! :)

Aaaahaahah! SCIENCE and INDUSTRY are your new gods! YOU must RUN like CLOCKWORK!

(*giggle*)...SACRIFICE your flesh and blood to lubricate the gears of PROGRESS!

You haven't lived in Soviet Union! )
It was a total crap.
By the way I have one picture that style... If I find it I'll scan and show you. It says "Woman, study reading and writing!" and sillhouettes of Russian-countryside girls at the desck.

Wow - that last one reminds me a lot of the "Moloch machine" in Fritz Lang's Metropolis.

You're english is good -- Don't worry. :)

I agree about energetic art. There needs to be more of this sort of thing over here in America, too.

Ain't it? :)

I love constructivist art... Propaganda is always an interesting use for it, but it's about the most visually striking thing i've ever seen. Grabs the attention of the viewer, and keeps it until they understand what they're looking at and have a reaction to it. Priceless.

Was this used in america? And was it used in the same way?

No -- Most Americans have never seen anything like this style of art. The designs our government uses to tell us to do things are more sentimental and natural. :)

(I'm trying to use simple English--I'm assuming you are Russian.)

Nope - American :) I live in Denver, CO.

Is it around the time of Art Deco, that this style was used? And why did the Russians think that this heavy-handed style would work to sway opinion? ...DID it work, did the Russians buy into this?
