[info]feminazis web design
I am putting the [info]feminazis web design up for a bid.

What you do:

  1. You take your favorite unused LJ account or you create one.

  2. You design it. Remember it must represent [info]feminazis on LJ, so no sissy stuff please. Be aggressive, bitchy, provocative.

  3. You provide me with a link to that journal and I will check it out.

  4. The winner gives me access to that journal so that I can copy-paste all its settings.

  5. The winner gets recognition (credit) and a link on [info]feminazis's user info.

Note: You must use a free account. The images you use must be free of rights. Once I choose your design, you can't get it back from me, but you keep all your other rights to it. I may make changes to your design. Those conditions are non-negotiable.

Oh yeah, and it must look better than what I did myself.

That's a joke or? :D

I love it when people hide their wants for free design work under the guise of a contest.

Best of luck!

I was smiling when I typed it. I'm smiling now. It was included to convey that feeling. Call it what you will. I also think my sentiment came across loud and clear. Again, good luck to you.

Aren't there a thousand communities for layout creation? You may have some good luck there.

Thanks.

Evidently, neither is the designer who does the work. Most of us are professionals or students who feel our work has value. While I can't speak for anyone but myself, I know that I don't work for free unless there is what I consider to be a good reason for it.

Sure, I don't work for free either. I don't ask anybody to take time off work to do this. Some may do it for entertainement, there is an interesting challenge here.

Eh, some people actually enjoy doing what they earn their living with... surprising, but true.

I'd appreciate it if you didn't make implications into my thoughts. Attempting to put words into my mouth isn't going to advance your argument or your intentions in any way. I wished you luck, I made a comment about the guise of a contest, I made the point of mentioning that design work is just that, work, it's how we pay our rent and feed our kids what you don't seem to understand is that many people feel that is important and has value. This is, of course, my opinion and you may find many others who disagee, again, good luck. I just think you should understand what it is you do when you ask for free design work. If you can't, so be it. I tried. That's all I've got to say, good day to you.

Why don't you just do it yourself? I mean, you obviously didn't spend much time on the current layout anyway... so why not just throw in a few more minutes and make it semi-decent?

Making your plea for free design work sound like some fun little contest is just retarded. I mean, giving someone credit for the work they did, despite them already earning it regardless as the sole "prize" in your whole charade? How fucking rewarding.

100% agree.

Plus, I think the point fivestar was trying to make was this is comparable to asking a janitor to come over and clean your house, a doctor to give you a free surgery, or a mechanic to give your car a fee tuneup.

It's ok for friends or those really in need, but to ask a complete stranger who's a professional at this to do this kind of favour for you? Not too likely.

A question;

How can you possibly run/support such a community, entitled "The Society to Cut Up Men (S.C.U.M.)", that aims (amongst other things) "to personnify the men's worst nightmares", and whose 'manifesto' includes the following excerpts:

"The male is completely egocentric, trapped inside himself, incapable of empathizing or identifying with others, or love, friendship, affection of tenderness. He is a completely isolated unit, incapable of rapport with anyone. His responses are entirely visceral, not cerebral; his intelligence is a mere tool in the services of his drives and needs; he is incapable of mental passion, mental interaction; he can't relate to anything other than his own physical sensations. He is a half-dead, unresponsive lump, incapable of giving or receiving pleasure or happiness; consequently, he is at best an utter bore, an inoffensive blob, since only those capable of absorption in others can be charming."

and still list "anti-sexism" in your personal interests?

I don't fault the manifesto - after all, it was written in 1968 in context of the 2nd wave of feminism in art & pop art - radical and offensive ideas were being explored for art's sake, and the author was very dismayed when the feminist movement picked up tenets of it. She also disagreed when it was changed to S.C.U.M. (instead of SCUM, as it was originally written) and reproduced by Olympia Press with very marketable binding and sensational blurbs by prominent feminists. She thought that altered the original context and meaning of the original mimeograph. Of course, she was also upset that when she shot Andy Warhol it was seen as a sign of insanity and not as an art event. :)

I think it's a shallow interpretation or simply a literal translation of some of the manifest that the community is based off of. I think the manifesto has a completely different meaning because we live in different times, and to follow parts of it literally almost 40 years later and not even acknowledge or reference how the art world (and the world in general) has changed is almost silly. If I were to try to recreate SCUM today, I would probably write a new manifesto that relates more closely to today's art movements and social climates. To each their own, though.

Hmph. Amusing how people try to rationalize SCUM so as to dampen its impact. Valerie believed all what she wrote, but you can't deal with that.

Rationalize? I missed that part. I gave the historical context of the work. I also missed the part where I said Valerie didn't believe what she wrote.

I believe a literal interpretation of a writer's work is a shallow way to approach it- At best it's disrespectful, and at worst it's ignorant, possibly leading you to form a philosophy that doesn't acknowledge the world around it unlike the original. It's not because I "can't deal" with your take on her philosophy, it's because I disagree with it.

The situation of...? Men in general? Women's place in society? The patriarchy?

Yes, I believe that since the late 60s, there has been a large amount of social change in the United States, with advances for both race and gender. Are you asserting that women's rights and freedoms have decreased since the late 60s? That's what it sounds like.

Not only do you sell funky shit on gothfash, but you have valid opinions, too!

Gotta say I'm with you here on the intent with which the book was written, but when an author publishes something I believe it is their responsibility to consider the possibilities of their text falling into the wrong hands - which this has very clearly done - and take appropriate precautions.

She didn't and now must suffer the consequences.
