"No, Derek and Casey won't end up together. Especially since they see each other as siblings now!"
- Jeff Biederman (on possible Dasey in the LWD movie.)
Et tu, Jeff?So why keep so many Dasey moments? The cast and crew were all well aware of the fan following that LWD had gained
because of the Dasey. Why keep all the ambiguous touches and glances, if all they wanted to showcase was the final settling of the McDonald-Venturis into family mode? There was absolutely no transition, no development of the theme, no place where you could say "Hey, this is where they started thinking of each other as siblings." (I'm sorry but three sentences in the last episode
and with that look cannot erase four seasons worth of history.)
Also, if this were so, the last scene should have gone like- "...most
annoying brother" "Hey, look who's talking, Princess." or something. An easy acceptance. Just the fact that he interrupted and only concentrated on the "brother" part
and looked is hint enough.
I'm starting to think it also had a lot to do with keeping that older fan base, a huge part of why LWD was so popular. If the show had turned into something like the 'Trials and Tribulations of a Modern Blended Family' it would've cut the viewership by a hell lot. And I think they cashed on that while simultaneously keeping the "clean" image of Family/Disney.
I had never expected Dasey to be canon. But I hadn't expected a full cop-out either. It's like they're trying
too hard to play happy families all of a sudden
and no one's buying it. They threw in various curveballs (Dally, Trashy, Demily) and when nothing worked, decided to wing it and give the Dasey fans the kind of ending they wanted. What I'm worried about is that both Derek and Casey will find "true love" in the movie or something. How many pre-teen/teen movies are there where the leads stay single till the end?
"As for Casey and Derek, I don't know if it'd be illegal for them to get together, but it'd be wrong! Underneath all the arguing they're really good friends, who are there for each other."

Daphne Ballon (So Dasey is "wrong" not because they're stepsibs, but because they're almost friends. Who's ever heard of friends, who actually care for each other, making a non-platonic relationship work? Seriously, what were we thinking?)Heck, I'm mad enough to be taking out conspiracy theories now.
