[Oct. 11th, 2008|01:02 pm] |
so i love this work-study job so far. i've only been there one night as of right now, and i'm going back for tonight. everyone was so cooky, and it was loads of fun. and last night was probably the most stressful for a while since almost everyone working with that office showed up. and my immediate supervisor hit someone with a car while i was with him. just backed into some old guy crossing the street. it was hilarious. i love, love, love work so much more than school. i can't wait to get outta the U and start working.
and the play that opened last night...y'know, to be frank about it, i've always been a fan of experimental theatre...until last night. that play really turned me off. there were way too many things to do with absolutely nothing. it was, essentially, what a collaboration between a large number of college theatre students is expected to be - too much going on, very little focus, a bunch of half-naked people, and dancing. it had a lot of cool ideas, in theory, at play throughout. buuuut the whole show definitely conveyed that it was under-rehearsed in it's current incarnation. it was way too frantic, all the time, for no good reason. honestly, i would have been far more interested in seeing an experimental production of woyzeck itself, rather than an experimental collaboration loosely based on the themes. that said, don't forget i think there were some great IDEAS in the show (the beginning and ending loop, the pre-show singalong, the different perspectives that were played with even though most were unnecessary, etc.). but, y'know, i use theatre for storytelling. and that's what i'm interested in consuming when i go to see live theatre. there was very little coherence in the storytelling here.
aaand seeing A View From the Bridge - wow, i really didn't expect that much from a guthrie production. but the whole story was very solid...arthur miller's possibly one of the more interesting american playwrights, so that helps out too. the acting was far better than i thought it would be and especially from the 2 female leads. the guy who played the italian love interest didn't really nail the performance for me. but the leading male did a fantastic job of making me despise him and his character. again, i think that's a lot to do with miller's creation of the character than this actor, but i can't be certain of that unless i had seen another actor in that role. all in all, i think the ensemble cast showed a deep understanding and sophisticated insight into the story here. and i do mean "ensemble" cast...these guys worked with and off of one another in a way i've never seen in a guthrie show. so....cool.
on another note...come next semester, it looks like i might be paying for my mother's tuition. yes, that's right, I will be paying for HER school. if i can arrange it in my own disbursement finances. shouldn't i get some more financial aid of something for that situation? i'm just aching to fill out my fafsa for 2009-10 with my mom's taxes from this year. i hope it makes life a little easier for me.
and at work, they already talked about bumping me up to the marketing office in the spring! so i'm excited for that...pending i don't make a fool out of myself in front of the staff business manager. but with that opportunity, i would be able to have a schedule that's more flexible and would allow me to get days when i might be busy at night (i'm forcing myself to get up, out, and auditioning next semester to test and see if i'm even any good at acting anymore) and would allow me to jump in HM'ing whenever i could. OH, and classes for next semester will probably look like this: Contemporary Black Theatre - 1960-Present (i've always been interested in this topic, but never tackled it...plus LOU BELLAMY is the professor for it! hopefully i can snag a spot in it before it fills up...only 10 seats) Theatre Design/Tech II (ugh, but at least i'll be done with the tech classes this year then) Storytelling and Performance (SWEET) Comedy: Text and Theory (i gotta start taking out of my major classes and this one sound insanely interesting) Sexuality and Culture (eh, it fulfills like 3 req.s towards graduation) Into to Bio: Evolution + Lab (i can be done with science this year, AND i can take the lecture with and emphasis on Evolution of Sex! It's gonna be one smexy semester)
...then keeping this current work study job and HOPEFULLY, maybe, getting that Y-tutors job...i'd be really, really busy, but it would be fantastic. And really, storytelling and performance is the only this i'd be hardcore dedicated to going to as a nighttime engagement...and that ends at 6:30pm on monday. So this leaves me plenty of freedom to audition for stuff in the community. and i'd have weekends more or less free. i think my main problems with this semester are a) it's fall semester...never good b) all the classes that sounded interesting when i registered were already full so i put myself in a bunch of stuff i didn't want to be in c) i don't have enough to DO. i need to stay busy to keep going. cuz lethargy, for me, snowballs way too easily.
okay. i'm going to go buy milk and eggs. and try to forget about money problems for this semester. |

| (Pretend) Writer's Block: The Triumphant Return |
[Oct. 11th, 2008|01:32 pm] |
I feel like I'm forever bringing back this feature and that feature and sometimes even the other feature. This is probably because I am always bringing back features. Today's returning feature can be defined as the definitive shoddy and underused feature. It's (Pretend) Writer's Block. It's like the writer's block question I used to answer on a regular basis but not quite as lame (which is funny in itself because I designed this feature to ask lame and uninspired questions). Anyway here goes. Feel free to join in with my (Pretend) Writer's Block and maybe we can usurp the main Writer's Block. Or at least make the person who writes it think up some actually decent questions.
If you were trapped on a desert island with a camera and only one day to live what would you take pictures of?
Answer View Other Answers |
A photography question? yay! Oh I know I used to moan and whinge and whine when a photography question came up in the normal writer's block but after reading some of the lame questions they have on there nowadays a good old fashioned photography question is like a breath of fresh air during a walk in the park. However since it is a writer's block photography question I still have to make fun of it because thems the rules. So right, I'm trapped on a desert island? Where the hell am I going to get these photographs developed eh? Bet you didn't think of that did you you stupid photography question? Plus I've just got a day to live! Why am I taking photographs and not trying to save my life? Actually, you know what I just don't have the heart to make fun of photography questions on the writer's block any more. Because of how the real writer's block has come down with a serious case of the lame. In fact when I imagine the real writer's block I picture it as being marooned on the desert island of lame questions. And it's slowly dying of those lame questions. In fact in metaphor time I'd say it has precisely one day left to live. Quick! We have to find something for it to take photographs of before it bites the dust! Well the most important shots for the Writer's Block to take photos of would be the sunrise and sunset, as they are the most beautiful parts of the day. Maybe also get a shot of the beach with some palm trees, a giant monkey head if there is one, try and have a look for some beautiful sweeping vistas of the island and then when the Writer's Block is done and it's last breath is getting near it slides the camera into a bottle, pops a cork in a throws it out to sea, to be discovered and developed by artistic sailors who will ensure that the whole world finds out about the beauty of the Writer's Block's last day on Earth.
Actually what am I talking about? A question can't take photographs of a metaphorical island using an imaginary camera. That's just nonsense. I think I should probably just go and lie down until the world starts making sense again. |

| Life On Mars Dimension Crash Crossovers |
[Oct. 10th, 2008|02:57 pm] |
So last week I expounded on some of the TV programs I come across on a regular basis in my position of 'dimension collision repairman'. Well I thought that since it was so popular I'd recount some of the strange programs borne of the result of a crash I experienced last year.
This crash took place in the Life on Mars zone of the dimensiverse and as such all programs therein were renamed based on an appropriate David Bowie song.
( This way to see the tragic and occasionally hilarious remnants of all the dimensions destroyed in the great dimension crash of 07. )
Oh and by the way. The cast of the new US version of Life On Mars look more peculiar than the cast of any of the dimension crash versions I saw. And I saw some pretty weird casts, for example in one version Gene was a giant wasp and Sam was a cloud of purple smoke. |

Silent Hill 5 SPOILARSSS OMG:
Alex's dad is secretly Locke from LOST. Upon the Island's disappearance it reappeared in Maine wherein it became Silent Hill. Upon this time/space shift, it also summoned up Dean Winchester from Supernatural to become Alex Shepard.
Random updates:
Having a minor in Russian Studies is really turning out to be a fun/notfun thing.
CONS: I cannot fucking watch my favourite childhood cartoon, Anastasia, without crying at at least two different points. Every. Single. Time. Especially after last year. Fuck you, Don Bluth, for getting my childhood hopes up. Though now seeing Rasputin as a typical kiddie movie baddie is amazing to no end and I keep cracking up. I love it.
PROS: John McCain implying he'd be fine and dandy starting up the cold war again means I'd have employment till the end of goddamn time.
I might be moving out this summer, either to NYC or DC because of location + Major. However, I landed myself a semester teaching english in Kiev during Spring which I am really, really looking forward to. That might make moving out a bit harder because of timing.
PS: At 19 fucking years old, I started ballet.
Nineteen.
Ballet.
Oh, the hilarity of the shit I've gotten into thus far. I don't know what the fuck I was thinking. It's morbidly hilarious. I refuse to drop it since I took it up to go, one day, en pointe, and I refuse to drop it until I do so. But holy fucking christ. I never thought I'd say 'too old' at 19 for anything. Then I took up ballet. 5 times a fucking week. Oh the stories I could tell you. |

| Good Dick, the movie. |
[Oct. 9th, 2008|09:18 pm] |
I saw this great movie tonight called "Good Dick", the woman who stars in it --Mariana Palik also wrote and directed it, and she's only a year older than me. It turned out the screening was only for NYU students and alum (the movie is officially released tomorrow) but I convinced a woman who I was talking to in line to tell security I was her guest. I suppose I can actually be charming now and then. The film is about a woman who was abused by her father and as a result is disconnected from the world and is unable to have sexual relationships with others so she sits at home all day watching pornos by herself until the video clerk more or less rescues her. Afterwards the director took questions and I asked why she chose such a misleading and provacative title and her costar Jason Ritter said that Good Dick was supposed to mean whatever it is in actuality that you really need to be okay. |

| Fun and awesome things :D |
[Oct. 9th, 2008|06:01 pm] |
So, as predicted, the mall trip today was nice. :) At FYE, I bought these awesome Nintendo figures of Yoshi and Luigi and a keyring that has charms of the Nintendo logo, the N64 controller, the GameCube controller, and the Wii controller. If they had added in the NES and SNES controllers, the keyring would've been truely complete. But based on the controllers that they did use, it fits me perfectly since those are the only 3 consoles I have since I started playing games when I got the Gameboy Color, so I've only owned the Nintendo systems that have come out since then. (Except for the Gameboy Micro since that was total bullshit for them to release something like that AFTER the original DS came out. Whoever was responsible for that marketing decision deserves to be bricked. Or even the person responsible for the IDEA deserves to be bricked since it could only play GBA games and it had a smaller screen compared to the GBA and GBA SP.) Anyways, here are some pictures of the stuff:

Oh, and I also got the latest volume of Negima at Borders. I ♥ that series so much. Heck, I ♥ Ken Akamatsu's art style so much that I'd buy any of his series. Or at least most of his series since I'm still pondering whether or not I should buy A.I. Love You, because the story for it seems kinda dumb, and his art style in that series looks so archaic compared to how it looks now, which is expected. But it would still probably bother me while reading. Plus I think that series is finally done being printed because it's harder to find copies of the volumes at bookstores, so I'd probably have to buy the volumes online, which would be a pain.
Anyways, I was so heartbroken when I saw that the comicbook store that I went to in order to buy Pokémon figurines was gone. It got replaced with a stupid, freaking Liberty Travel. WTF? Who can afford to travel these days with the ridiculous tax prices? At least comics and other geeky things are cheaper than vacations. But whatever, I shouldn't be bitching about this, because I Googled the store, and it turns out that they just moved to a new location. The funny thing about that is that my dad predicted that they might've moved to a strip mall or something since it would be cheaper, and according to the site for the store, it's in a strip mall that has a Super Foodtown. So yeah, my dad has awesome guessing skills. :P
OH AND I ALMOST FORGOT. While I was waiting to pay for Negima vol. 19 at Borders, I saw a book for icanhascheezburger.com and LOLcats called "I Can Has Cheezburger?". NO, I AM NOT JOKING. HERE'S THE LINK FOR IT. The fact that a book about random stuff like that actually exists is incredibly lulzy to me, and I wished that I had a camera to take a bigger picture of the cover. Also, I find it rather amusing how when I searched for the book on the website, the other top results were for Dr. Seuss books. XD

And one last thing. These wall decals are AWESOME and I wish I could have them.
See ya! ;)
~Melissa~
EDIT: Here's a better picture of the cover of the "I Can Has Cheezburger?" book. |

| Writer's Block: The Beatles |
[Oct. 9th, 2008|03:12 pm] |
Personally I'd like to say that no matter how good the Beatles were there is no way they were as good as the die hard "the beatles were the best band on the planet ever and no band will ever be able to compare to them ever!" fans make them out to be. Even if they were great and the best band of their day, they were not the second coming of Christ.
There isn't really a band as popular as the Beatles nowadays but this is because people's musical tastes have changed and there are far more different genres and styles of music and far more bands and artists available than there used to be. Nowadays everyone is catered for. If the Beatles came along nowadays then they'd probably do well but it would not be Beatlemania. No band or artist could ever be that popular now. |

[Oct. 9th, 2008|02:06 pm] |
I'm kinda sweaty. Usually I don't mind being sweaty but sometimes it can feel like my backs covered in grease or something, thankfully my current sweat isn't THAT bad... but even so. Sweat.
Juliet and myself are still suffering the symptoms of an illness that we haven't REALLY been effected by for about a week now. Feeling perfectly normal but sneezing and the like. Lame.
Anyways I went into film school today, we had a lecture - watched some stuff. I wasn't sure what I was going to do for a project so I talked to the lecturer and now I do know. It wasn't that I didn't have idea's before so much as I was worried that my idea's were taking me in the wrong direction.
Then we had another writers pow-wow for that other project, then I walked home.
I'm hungry.
My plan for this afternoon:
- Eat Lunch - Write idea's in work book that I had on the way home. - Write that essay thing about my goals for the next 2 years (due in Monday) - Do washing up - Tidy House
It's just past 2pm now, Juliets home just after 6pm. 4 hours should be plenty of time to get the bulk of the list done.
I'm sleepy and hungry. |

| Practical American Bento: Tools You Can Use |
[Oct. 9th, 2008|07:14 am] |
So, one of the things I hear a lot right after posting a series of bento pictures is "That's cool! Where can I get all that nifty stuff?" And the answer is... You order it from Japan. Or you get really creative.
There are tons of great places where you can get cute little bento boxes and the tools you need to create one. But really, you don't actually *need* all those tools. Okay, okay, so once you get addicted, then yeah. You find that you *omgneed* those tools. But for a beginning bento artist... really. You don't. You can get most of the nifty tools right here at your local grocery store. And lots of other stuff can be obtained at any craft store.
Inicidentally, I'm linking to the girl who does Bento TV, because she's super sweet, she has lots of great ideas, and if you should happen to *omgneed* some of this stuff, she's a good place to start. Because really... How can you say no to a $5 bento?
Nori Punch: Nori is the word for those nifty sheets of seaweed that sushi gets wrapped in. A nori punch is a fancy hole puncher. And as any scrapbooker will tell you, fancy hole punches are a a dime a dozen. So, maybe they cost a little more. But they are out there, and they don't have to be shipped from Japan. The main advantage to getting an actual nori punch is that they tend to be smaller, and therefore easier to use as decorating tools. Heck, if you're really crafty, you can cut all sorts of shapes out of nori using nothing but a pair of scissors.
Sauce Bottles and Cups: It's not exactly easy to find teeny little sauce bottles, I know. But! You can find teeny little tupperware containers and small reusable bottles. As you're shopping, look at everything, with an eye towards how it would fit into your bento.
Side Dish Boxes: Lots of plasticware now comes in as small as a quarter cup serving container. Heck, a couple of my bento cups are from a set where the cups went down to as small as 1 oz. Again, look at everything when you're shopping. There's a been a big consumer demand recently for smaller sizes, which the plastic storage industry has taken up in spades.
Egg Molds and Rice Molds: Also something you may have to order in. But really, all you need to shape your rice is your own two hands. It may take a little practice, but squeezing basic shapes out of your rice is fairly easy. Alternately, there's always....
Bento Cutters: Ever notice how much bento cutters look like... cookie cutters? That's because for the most part, that's all they are. Bento cutters are great for cutting out sandwich shapes, molding rice blocks, cutting out cheese slices... Heck, if you're clever with an exacto knife, you can use it as a pattern for cutting out a piece of nori. This time of year is great for finding all sorts of cookie cutter shapes. And my absolute favorite.... mini cookie cutters! I use them for just about everything from molding candy, to cutting out toppings, to putting holes in fruits and veggies. Lots of stores sell mini cookie cutters in packs of six different shapes, which means instant multi-toy goodness. Something else you can use cookie cutters for...
Rice Stencils: Again, stencils you can find at most craft stores. The advantage to using a rice stencil over trying to fill in a cookie cutter is that the stencil covers the bits you don't want coated, so you're less likely to mess it up.
Lunch Picks: You know those nifty mini plastic swords that sometimes come with cocktails? Same concept. You can generally find those right next to the toothpicks. You might not find any with cute little critters on them, but you never know.
Divider Cups: You wanna know the difference between your average muffin wrapper, and the paper divider cups shown at that link? Weight and wax. Generally, the paper cups made just for bentos are slightly heavier paper, with a light wax coating. For most uses of paper divider cups, you're probably not going to notice a huge difference. Again, this is a great time of year to pick up cute decorative paper cups, especially the ones for mini muffins, which are really useful. Also, foil baking cups are awesome. Eventually, you will probably want some plastic divider cups, or some silicone ones. Amazingly enough, silicone baking cups are available in most stores, too. You can also use those really tiny plastic containers you picked up over in the tupperware aisle.
Other things to keep an eye out for:
Decorative silicone ice trays. These can be used as molds, if you're clever. Line them with some paper or plastic, stuff in your item of choice, and pop them right back out.
Small baking pans or muffin tins with interesting shapes. If it's already cute when it comes out of the pan, that's one less step.
Interesting lunch bags or cooler bags. You'll need something to carry your bento in that will allow you to keep everything upright. After all, you don't want it shaking around and ruining your pretty lunch.
Next time (If I remember): Food shopping and why the diet snack section is your friend. And why "bento" is more than just the box. |

I got a rush today from sneaking out of my history class 10 minutes after it started. Totally worth it.
i keep trying and trying and trying to find something redeemable about school. but it seems that the only time i get some joy out of it is when i skip out on it. why? i just cannot urge myself to commit to anything school-related and enjoy it. i'd like to! but i don't know how. any suggestions?
and this time of year (and consistently over the past 4 years), i've found myself oozing sadness and lethargy out my skin. i don't feel like like any of my work is worthwhile, that anything i do is purposeful or even fun. i don't know what to do about this either. i mean, when i spend one-third of every calendar year inexplicably unhappy...i don't know. it's not fun. it's not enjoyable, and it makes me feel like a complete loser. aaaand yet again, the only person i feel comfortable sharing this with is livejournal (of course with no regard for who might read it...which i like).

On the way home today, we got caught in traffic. A car fire that caught the hill on fire as well. And man, let me tell you, there was NOTHING left of that car. Y'know the shell of the car, where the paint is? That was gone. Absolutely gutted. I've seen car fires before, but that was remarkable.
booda, t'was good to see ya today. Gave me a sense of normality, seeing an old friend. :)
OK, I give in. I'm getting ready for bed. God, I feel like I should be double my age, going to bed around 8...Oh, and incidentally, I let slip in the radio class that my birthday's next week...The other students had brought up the idea of bringing food, and so I said "Hey, that works for me, Tuesday's my birthday." Got a few odd looks when I said I was turning thirty-two. I was amused.
One last thing, then bed. I have been provisionally accepted to National University. All they need is my transcripts, which I've ordered, but I'm in. Have I written about that? I can't remember. Anyway.
To bed I go.

| I basically get paid to entertain stupid boys |
[Oct. 8th, 2008|08:36 pm] |
I have the most waste of time discussions with the boys at work, that's really what I get paid for half of the time (that and explaining to ESL students what 'turning someone on' means. This woman at work was telling us that her husband tried to trick her into making sandwiches for her and all her friends and how that's not fair because she's only supposed to be making sandwiches for him.
When I heard this I said, "Whaaat, I would never make a sandwich for a man, regardless if I was married to him or not." The weird boy at work somehow turned this into a silly argument:
boy: So wait, you wouldn't make me a sandwich?
Me: No way.
boy: What if I came home from work and was really tired and hungry, then would you make me a sandwich?
Me: No, because I would probably be tired from work also, so why should you get a sandwich?
boy: Okay, okay, what if I made you a sandwich first, then would you make me a sandwich?
Me: Okay, if you made me a sandwich then I would make you a sandwich.
boy: Oh, okay, I see Miss Feminist, everything has to be equal with you.
Me: Pretty much.
boy: Okay, so what if I made you a sandwich, then you made me a sandwich, and then I needed a sandwich again, would you make one for me or would I have to wait for my turn again?
Me: I don't know, it would probably be my turn again. I think you're putting too much thought into this. But you don't need to really be discussing this because it's not like we would ever be married.
boy: You can't say that for sure!
what a weirdo, he's like a child. |

| More days off! |
[Oct. 8th, 2008|03:18 pm] |
We get Thursday and Friday off from school. Yay! :D
My mom asked to have her day off tomorrow, so it sounds like we'll be doing some shopping at a mall and eat at a Chili's for lunch. :) So that should be fun.
And...that's about all I can think of to say right now. XD;
See ya! ;)

| attention current & former residents of Mound, MN |
[Oct. 8th, 2008|01:34 pm] |
The House of Moy is closing.
Last day will be October 19th.
kaustin and I had dinner there on Sunday night with my folks and my Mom's cousin Marv. The first Chinese food I ever had (or, you know, what passes for it) was at that restaurant as a kid. They've been in business for 36 years. Mrs. Moy wants to retire, I guess she's tired of cooking.
(The other Chinese restaurant in Mound changed owners or something this year; my folks don't care for it any more and so had returned to dining at and ordering from the House of Moy after years of not doing so.) |

| Writer's Block: Personal Holidays |
[Oct. 8th, 2008|11:27 am] |
I'm aware that there's a holiday for absolutely everything nowadays because every time one of these holidays is happening it gets mentioned on the bloody Writer's Block question as though it's somehow interesting or relevant. Here's an idea for a holiday: "Think up some more creative questions day" how about that? You'd celebrate it by thinking up some more creative questions. That'd be a holiday everyone could enjoy.
Oh and lesbians day. |

| Fic: Smallville: Toxic |
[Oct. 7th, 2008|09:54 pm] |
Rating: G Summary: Just a small scene based off "Toxic" Character(s): Chloe, Oliver, Clark Warnings/Spoilers: Obviously, Toxic Disclaimer: Not mine Notes: Details are wrong, because if I take the time to correct them, this will never get posted. Speculation involved on the whole Chloe/Brainiac thing as well as some leaps that aren't even explainable by Smallville physics. But let's ignore that and focus on the hotness that is Chloe/Oliver, hmm?
( Chloe watched as the door shut behind Clark & Davis before tuning back to Oliver )
I'd love feedback! |

I finally got the HPV vaccine today. I basically put off everything on my plate today, since I'm only barely young enough to still get it and didn't want another year of procrastinating.
The woman at the front desk was funny, she would saying everything very loud except for HPV, which she would whisper under her breath.
"Here is the schedule for your HPV vaccine."
Yay for being responsible. |

OK. My appointment for picking up the *test* CPAP (to determine what air pressure my body needs/can handle) is on Halloween morning. It's a bit far away-ish, but it was the only time that I could go for (Fridays are almost always the best time for my appointments, and that was the soonest Friday they had open, so...Halloween it is.)
We worked out just how long, altogether, I went without breathing the night of my test. For an awakening to be considered an "apnic event", one must go without breathing for 10 seconds. I had 21 awakenings *per hour* (something I neglected to put in my last post [EDIT: OK, I fixed that...]), and in an eight hour period, it works out to 168 awakenings, like I said earlier. Altogether, it worked out to TWENTY EIGHT frigging minutes. Without oxygen. I told my Dad... y'know, I can appreciate the number of awakenings - I got my head wrapped around that pretty well. But it didn't put it in perspective. Finding out I didn't breathe for twenty eight minutes... THAT opened my eyes, folks. I am rather fond of nitrogen/oxygen, and would like to continue breathing it as long as I can.
So anyway. That explains why I'm so tired all the time, and why I've needed caffeine for as long as I have. I'm hoping that once I actually have my CPAP and I begin the therapy, my energy will rise, my head will become clearer, my risk of diabetes will go down, and... um... other stuff that I can't remember because I'm beginning to get sleepy. Curse this sleep debt!
As I admitted to carol_da_queen, I fell off the wagon the other afternoon. Had a Diet Coke around 3. Big mistake. Kept waking up. Lesson learned.
So yeah, that's been the bulk of my day. Oh, and I was hoping for a TKO in tonight's Prez debate, but I don't think there was one. Dang.

| Apologies to Radio Las Positas listeners... |
[Oct. 7th, 2008|12:20 pm] |
| [ | Current Mood |
| | optimistic | ] | If there's anyone who heeded my advertisement yesterday, for my show which was scheduled to be this morning, I gotta apologize - Last night, Dad's knee started to bother him again, so unbeknownst to me, he made an appointment with the doctor. All's fine, just needed a cortisone shot.
Anyway, it's a darn good thing he did get in -- for my sake, actually. I went in with him, and we asked if my results were in for the sleep apnea test. They sure were....
Apnea, as I've pointed out, runs in my family. My uncles both have it, and my Mom and Dad have mild sleep apnea. I, as it turns out, am no exception. I have moderate apnea. In other words, my apnic (periods of not breathing, and then awakening - not to full awareness, but awakening just enough for your brain to restart your breathing) events happen more than my folks' apnic events do. <5 awakenings is normal. 5-15 is mild. My results? 21 awakenings an hour. In an eight hour period, that'd be 168 awakenings per night!
So, I'm getting a CPAP machine. I have to call and schedule when to get the test CPAP, for us to find out what pressure is needed in my case, but yeah, it's happening.
I'm really relieved. I was thinking it was the caffeine that kept me so out of it -- and it has been a factor, absolutely no denying that -- but to know that I'll be getting better sleep soon... that's relaxing me, itself.
So yeah. That happened...

SO. I haven't actually written a post in a couple of days. What's been going on? Not really too much to speak of. Still got the sore throat I mentioned the other day, and now I have a canker sore on my tongue...Doesn't hurt, but it does make it harder to talk.
Which brings me to the fun bit: My Radio Las Positas show starts again tomorrow. (Yes, I know, LPCers, that tomorrow's a flex day/faculty work day... But I was planning to go in anyway with my Dad and tinker around the studio... I mentioned that to Nolan, the instructor, and he said "meh, go ahead and do your show." So. Tomorrow at 10, you'll be able to hear my currently lisping voice on radiolaspositas.com...Where it says "Click to listen," um, well... Click... to do the actual...um... listening. (It seems kinda simple to me that where it says "click", that that's where you should click... apparently it's not... registering with people. (Hah, and you thought I was going to say "click" again. Fooled you! Bwahahahaa.) Anyway. Same stuff as last time - 60s & 70s, but if the artist had a song that charted, say, in 1999, I might play it. And occasionally, I might just delve into the 50s every once in a while. Oh, and I know it says Hot Carl's gonna be on, but... t'ain't me... I think that's a goof...because I'm not showing up on the schedule anywhere, and that's the time I was given in class, so... Anyway.
Random and completely unrelated thought: I find it amusing that even though my computer now runs XP again [thankfully], I've still got the sticker on it that says "Windows Vista." {shudder}
