Does anyone remember which night of the two in Mexico that the audience sang "Happy Birthday" to Dave? I think it was just before "Just Can't Get Enough" and after the synths were having trouble on "Leave In Silence". But my memory is bad.
Thanks in advance, |

Well, I have had a pretty interesting few days this weekend to say the least.
Last Thursday, I went to see The Cure at the Santa Barbara Bowl. That's were it all started. As my friend and I decided to sit out the crowd after the show, I mentioned out loud that it might be funny if Martin Gore walked by, since we both know he lives in Santa Barbara. Martin Gore, of course, being the main songwriter and driving force behind Depeche Mode, only my favorite band ever. One of those 'life changing' type bands that most people have. The kind you grow up with during your formative years, the kind that are there for you whenever something happens in your life, that kind of band. Anyhow, not 20 seconds after I said that, who walks by but Martin Gore of course. So what does my friend do? She takes off after him, and of course I have to take off after her! He finally stops and we catch up and get our pictures taken with him. Here's is where it gets funny. After the initial excitement of catching up to him, I think it's all over. But no. At this point he starts walking down the exit tunnel and so do we. During this time I am walking next to him, shoulder to shoulder, the whole way. He had to take a leak and so did I, he stands in line for the bathroom and I do too. What happens? I wind up taking a leak right next to him. Talk about surreal. After this he winds up going into the backstage area and we can't follow. So we leave. The next night, we go to the Old Kings Road Pub on State St. in downtown Santa Barbara. He's been known to hang out there and I overheard him mentioning it to another fan. The pub is a great place to drink. We get friendly with the bartender and the new co-owner, which is not hard to do since these are some friendly people, and they wind up telling us that there is a private event that Sunday. Apparently all the invites have gone out, but, if I show up at a certain time and ask for him he'll get me in. Wow. Because of certain circumstances, my friend couldn't go on Sunday, but I hemmed and hawed and finally made myself go. Sure enough, I get in, and There's Martin Gore DJing. He's not bad either. Ultimately, I got drunk and he signed a couple of t-shirts for me. The weirdest part was that at some point, I was sitting at the bar, and I felt someone pull up to the stool next to me, I turn around, and there he is. Two ginger ales please. The bartender, Ellen, flips him off when he tries to pay. Some weekend.
PS For all you Depeche Mode fans out there, I found out this weekend that they are right this moment recording in Santa Barbara. I don't know if Dave and Andrew are in town but certainly Martin has been in and out of the studio recently. |

| Violator in covers |
[May. 18th, 2008|10:43 pm] |

Кукрыниксы - World In My Eyes (punk-rock) 02. FourPlay String Quartet - Sweetest Perfection (neoclassical) 03. Richard Cheese - Personal Jesus (jazz) 04. Mimofoni - Halo (electronic) 05. Wickhead - Waiting For The Night (alternative) 06. Dolapdere Big Gang - Enjoy The Silence (world music) 07. St. Petersburg Ska-Jazz Review - Policy Of Truth (ska) 08. Raph - Blue Dress (acoustic piano) 09. Fading Colours - Clean (darkwave)
