This note is too long for twitter. :[

I randomly think I might want to start a blog of my strange and possibly terrible fashion decisions. I could call it "What are you wearing?!" because that is what my mom says whenever she sees me dressed to go somewhere. Naturally, this is something completely self-indulgent that nobody would ever care to see, but I am fairly certain that is what 99% of blogs are anyway. Possibly I should just spam this journal even more. :p

As a side note, I should probably stop thinking of real clothes in terms of bravery requirements ala The World Ends With You. I have decided I have a minimum bravery. If the combination of everything I am wearing does not add up to a certain number, I cannot go out. I'm not sure what that number is exactly, but I suspect it's well over 200. It's a good thing I have more than four clothing slots.

Summer heat severely limits my choices in layering and what I can wear without DYING though, and that makes me very sad. D:

we have a winner!

CSC really knocked it out of the park this year. After today's individual time trial, the final podium in Paris, barring any unforeseen weirdness on the ride onto the Champs-Élysées, will be Carlos Sastre, Cadel Evans, and Bernhard Kohl. And, amazingly, time trial champion Fabian Cancellara didn't win the stage today. He was actually bested by Stefan Schumacher, who's been in breakaways like every day EVER of this Tour. Well done, Stefan! And and! Andy Schleck wins the best young rider jersey! That is awesome. I think the Schleck brothers are adorable, and I just wish Frank Schleck could have done a little better than 6th place in the GC, considering he was actually in yellow for awhile and everything.

Frank and Andy Schleck, being adorable.

So long as he finishes the race, Bernhard Kohl has the King of the Mountains competition locked up. Now, let's see, points competition....

Okay, right now Oscar Freire has 244 points, Erik Zabel has 202, and Thor Hushovd (the guy I want to WIN) has 198. Now we just have to figure out how many points are up for grabs on the ride into Paris. Which is harder than you'd think, grr. *researches frantically* Okay. As far as I can determine, there are 47 points up for grabs, so theoretically, either Zabel or Hushovd could still win it, so long as they came first in all the sprints and Freire didn't get anymore points. Which is unlikely. So, we may see Zabel and Hushovd change places, but I think Freire pretty much has it.

Anyway, so ends a relatively boring Tour, wrapping up tomorrow in Paris with champagne all around. Thanks to VeloNews' Live Update Guys for making it more interesting than it had any right to be.

The High Conflict Couple

The High Conflict Couple

I can't help but wonder if this book can help in a situation like this. Everything I say or do gets a negative spin from her, and she's always much more ready to believe the worst possible version of anything instead of reality. There's no way to win in a relationship with someone who sees everything negatively.

Writing

I have decided that since the upcoming 5 year mark of my uncle's untimely death, I have decided to write about all of our good times that we had together and his eventual untimely death when he took his own life. I'll keep everyone updated on how its going, as I know it will be a very emotional time writing about him, as I still miss him dearly.

the lawnmower polaroid

My husband and I have been making a serious effort to live as low-impact on the environment as possible. One of our recent changes has been to give up all motorized lawn maintenance equipment. Here's our super-rad push mower, which works extremely well, is very quiet, and is faster than using our old plasic crappy electric mower by black n decker (which broke less than two years after we bought it.) We've also ditched the weed eater and have a super-awesome pair of manual clippers for weeds, along with a completely manual edger that does edging that is military-esque in its precision. yay for human power and no noise nor pollution!

First night in apartment: success

Currently "borrowing" an Internet connection (I don't plan on making a habit of this, just figured I'd check in on things real quick while we still don't have fios set up... nor have we even ordered it, we might need to actually do that)

Apartment is AWESOME. A few flaws here and there, we have three days to write the flaws and such down and hand it in. But we have a washer, dryer, dishwasher, disposal, nice sized fridge, microwave, pretty decent stove/oven... it's exciting! Trying to unpack as much as possible right now. Oh and my new mattress is comfy.

Diana is not coping well yet. She spends most all her time so far under my bed, though she HAS gone out exploring a little. Mostly I think because she's hungry and I put her food and water in the kitchen (yeah I'm making her leave my room once in a while, I'm an evil mommy)... but yeah, she usually stays close. She'll adjust after a few days and be her normal spazzy driving-me-nuts self soon.

That about covers what's going on. Might be making an Ikea trip today and hanging out with my brother and cousin tonight, I don't know what the plan is for certain yet. :)

Wheeee.

Look what I made!

Besides making Rita's wallet, this is about the closest thing I've come to making something crafty all this summer. But that's okay cuz this clutch/purse/wallety type thing is SUPER CUTE!. lol I'm not sure what it is. Its too flat to be a purse or a clutch, but its too big to be a wallet.. except for like one of those bigger billfold things. I don't know the technical term for it. I don't care. I'm sure this can be useful somewhere.... holding pens? I dunno. BUT LOOKY!!!! It has kites on it!!! HAHAHA! It took me three days to make though, mainly because its all hand-stitched. No machine has touched this thing... which really amazes me that it's still holding together. lol

I bought a locally grown (and purty) bouquet at the grocery store. When I got home I realized some of the flowers and leaves were basil.

Is it safe to make pesto with this mysterious basil?

No. Haven't you heard of inedible decorative basil?

Playlist recs, cheesy 80s vampire version!

I'm compiling a playlist I should have compiled ages ago: the cheesy 80s pop vampire song list. I don't mean goth classics like "Bela Lugosi's Dead", oh no. I mean stuff like "Take Me Home Tonight", "Love Bites", "Black Cars", "Sunglasses At Night", and possibly "Maneater". Songs you listened to in grade school/junior high and just knew were about vampires. Lou Gramm's "Lost in the Shadows," too, though it may be cheating to use an actual vampire soundtrack. "Bloodletting" may also be too obvious (and too good).

I know I know more songs than I have right now, but I'm blanking. So I turn to you, beloved f-list!

What is this "swimming" activity you speak of?

So dad invited us to go to Hurricane Harbor Sunday for my stepbrother's birthday...and I feel like I should want to go more than I do, since I never do anything and he'd be paying and all... Maybe it has something to do with the fact that going means I have two days to find a swimsuit I like since I haven't seen mine since we moved. And all the cool swimsuits will be gone by now, like that one I liked that was at Target that I didn't buy because I'm so cheap and I never go swimming anyway. I guess I should go poke around at Ross or something, maybe they have something that's not too bad. What makes this even harder is that I've apparently decided I want a two-piece one this time, so not only do I have to find something I like, I have to find both pieces of it. And probably a skirt thing to match because I am not quite that confident in my body...and possibly because there's only so much accessorizing that can happen in a bikini. Hrm.

I guess I should be getting dressed and heading out on my quest so I don't end up just sitting around the house all day again like a bum. Man, I wish I at least had people to go out looking with other than my brother. I'd surely be more enthusiastic about it then.
