The D101 contest
Hi guys! Well, I'm back, net connected and everything. Finally. The move was a success (I didn't die) and am now getting used to this whole 'being paid to work' thing. I tell you, it's a crazy system. I wonder who made it up... Anyway, since I'm alive again, I'm hoping Ice will restart this coming weekend. I still have to find a public photocopier, but that shouldn't be to hard ....
About the 'end of D101 contest': Well, I'm still planning on doing it, never fear. Getting this new job and moving has kind of made it hard to digest the end of D101, or to even do special things for it. I haven't really pimped the end at all (which isn't unlike me, as I hate entering a den of strange netpeople and saying "hi! Pay attention to me! I did something special!"), but I told myself I *would* this time ... oh well. ^^ So much for random socialization. I'm way too shy for my own good sometimes.
Anyway! The contest. I've been thinking about August 20 for a deadline. No real reason behind that date.
The contest (as I've mentioned before) is this: There are two categories, written and artin, I mean drawn. If you want to enter both, you're welcome to. In the off chance that the same person blows me away in both categories... well, I guess I'll deal with that when the time comes. :) So far I'm the only judge. I was originally going to get some friends to help, but now they're way off in Ontario, so that ain't happening.
The topic is this: Where will the D101 crew be in the future? Where will they be in five (ten? two?) years? Will the kids graduate university? Will they have completely normal lives? Will Maddy and Isaac have kids or break up? Will there be more fights between the two groups? Will John ever get a date? etc etc. Their future is up to you. (Although I do ask you respect me as a creator and not do something totally weird with my characters. Please try to keep them in character. Canon. Whatever! ;))
The written category can be any format you like. Script, prose, poem, whatever. Same with the drawn category. A comic, pin up, heck, you can do something fun with those net avatars that are generated for free ... if you're clever and I enjoy what you've done, you'll win. There is only one rule: YOU MUST BE ORIGINAL. No ripping anything off, unless you are parodying.
The prizes are this:
A) 1 original drawing in 8 by 11 size by yours truly. Subject to be decided by you. Within reason, I'll draw whatever you like (if, however, you want some extremely detailed lesbian porn, I reserve the right to refuse), and if you want it, it can be coloured. As I am not taking commissions and probably won't be selling my work on ebay again for a long time, this is probably your last chance to get original art off me ... until I'm unemployed again, that is. ;)
B) A 1 month subscription to Modern Tales. I know, one month isn't a huge amount of time, but a lot of you have complained to me that MT's pay-by-credit-card stance has made it impossible for you to subscribe, and you'd really like to read Ice in its entirety. So that's what the one month thing is for. You basically get to read all of Ice, and any other MT comic you'd like to. If you already have an MT subscription, well ... something else can be arranged, I guess. We'll talk, if that comes up.
Each category will have one winner, and each winner will get the little prize pack mentioned above. I know it's not a huge prize package, but it's what I feel is appropriate. Hopefully it'll be enough to get people to submit! Or, y'know, you could just submit because you like my comic and you want to celebrate it's ending. I certainly wouldn't say no to that. :)
All submissions must be emailed to me. My email address is faitherinATyahoo.com. Don't post things here, as they'll get lost. I would prefer, if you have a large image file, that you upload it to your webspace or Deviantart, as opposed to sending an attachment. As things sometimes do get lost, I will respond to your mail to let you know I've gotten the work. If there is no response after a week, please re-send it.
Cheers everyone! (And I want to give a big thanks to all those who commented and sent emails when the comic wrapped up. I'll try to get to answering those later.)
Next: more commenting on the end of the comic by yours truly. Man, I do like to babble.
