This is the Demonesque Shows (Buffy/Charmed) Sock Puppet Theatre.
What is a sock puppet theatre? We each play a character that belongs in the Buffy/Charmed universe. Some of us are characters from the shows, while some of us are original characters. We all obey the "canon": the rules of the world as the creators of the shows reveal them to us. If you want to join, talk to one of the moderators (see below). Later, we will have a more formal way of accepting new submissions, but currently we are pretty young.
If you have a character idea, and want to receive comments on it before you commit to joining, or if you want to know if people would like to play a story-arc, see our sister community [Unknown LJ tag]. We welcome OOC discussion there -- as long as it pertains to this community.
If you do want to join consider that:
One important difference between the Buffy/Charmed verse is that those shows never play there. Thus, journals of sock puppets can never refer to the shows.
Current world events are considered fair play. At the time this is written, for example, Saddam has been captured. If someone wanted to play out his capture as a, say, slayer that helped the US military capture him, she would be free to do so. Likewise, historical and mythical events (WWII, biblical stories, etc.) are considered fair play. If this would offend your sensibilities, we recommend that you don't join.
We stick pretty close to canon. Vampires lose their souls upon getting sired -- no exceptions. Resurrection is not lightly attempted, and should have serious consequences if at all. If you have questions about canon, or would like to discuss it (after joining) please make a friends-only post.
All posts, except those marked "OOC", are considered to be in-character. Ideally, no OOC posts at all should happen. Things like going on vacation (thus being unavailable for playing) or similar should be OOC. This includes posts to the community and posts in your sock puppet journal. We want the demonesquesock/friends page to be a way to read the IC happenings, with only the minimum possible OOC desruption.
NO SPOILERS. This includes prescient characters (which are fine to have) -- they should never have spoilers in their LJ. The reason is that many people here like the shows and remain spoiler-free. On the other hand, we encourage people to read spoilers, so that you can plan your story in advance to work with and around in-series storylines.
While the term used more commonly for these things is "RPG", it's really collaborative fiction. There is no GM -- we are all trying to tell a story (or maybe several). If your goal is "to win", it is probably not a good idea to join. Note that people get attached to their characters, so you should co-ordinate with them before involving their character in your story. Otherwise, we could end up following canon but contradicting ourselves, which is stupid.
If you want to join us in our collaborative writing effort, we will probably welcome you.
Currently, the only moderator is moshez, but we will probably have more soon.
