Funny Ha Ha's...an Insane Ian Update 10/10/08

Holy crap...it was only after seeing Sudden Death & Luke Ski's updates that I realized...I completely forgot to do one last month! Not that anyone reads this...

-=New FuMP Sideshow=-
-=New DT20 Track=-
-=Album Progress Report=-
-=Upcoming Shows=-

-=New FuMP Sideshow=-

For those of you keeping track, Ian was in a LOT of comedy bands throughout his college years. One of those bands actually pretended it was ANOTHER band, performing songs the real band wouldn't. Songs that were written on a dare. Of the two songs they did, one will appear on the FuMP sideshow on October 18th! If that isn't obscure enough for you, I don't know what is!

-=New DT20 Track=-
A few weeks ago, Insane Ian was a challenger in the second "Masters of Song Fu" competition over at QuickStopEntertainment.com and was tasked to write a song about the moon. Unfortunately, he didn't make it to round two, but his song has been doing well on the Mad Music Dementia Top 20 instead! You can vote for his entry, entitled "Luna, See?" (or any of his other songs) by heading over to http://www.themadmusicarchive.com/top20voting.aspx and casting your vote! It helps if you're a member of the site, but it's free to join, and a fantastic resource for funny music and funny musicians!

Also, if you're in a song requesting mood, you can also hit up The Dr. Demento Show request page and help get double I back into the Top Ten! "Guitar Hero" has fallen out of the rankings, and with the new game GUITAR HERO WORLD TOUR due out at the end of the month, it'd be a nice tie-in to have the song ABOUT Guitar Hero reach number one the DAY the new game is released! Head over to http://www.drdemento.com/request and let your voice be heard...literally! You can submit MP3 files with your requests to the good Doctor now too! If you don't have the ability (or just flat don't feel like making an MP3 request) you can just type it out too...just make sure you request it!

-=Album Progress Report=-

For those paying attention, you'll notice that I've gone from saying "due Summer 2008" to "due SOMETIME 2008". That's because recording for the new album has hit a bit of a snag. Still, we're about a third of the way there, and if all goes well, there should be a brand new single hitting the tubes and the airwaves in a matter of weeks. With any luck, the album will be finished by the time Ian's first full con performance happens.

-=Upcoming Shows=-

That's right! You might get a chance to see Insane Ian perform live! While it's currently still in the negotiating stages, there's a VERY good chance Ian will be performing at Farpoint in February! Farpoint is a fan-run sci-fi/fantasy convention in the Baltimore area, and Ian has been asked to perform at the upcoming event! Previous comedy musicians to play Farpoint include the great Luke Ski and Baltimore's own Boogie Knights! For more information on the con itself, checkout http://www.farpointcon.com and for more information on if Ian will be performing there or not, keep your eyes on www.InsaneIan.com too!

That's all for this update, kids. Stay tuned for more late breaking news, as some new songs may appear before the next month's update (with any luck, anyway)

-Insane Ian

CotC Saturday concerts

My understanding is that concerts begin today at Con on the Cob at 2 PM with Soggy Potato Chips, then Carrie at 3PM and Rob Balder at 4PM. Another edition of Screw Your Neighbor is at 5PM, I am not sure what is after that. There is supposed to be a break from concerts 8-9PM for the masquerade, I am not sure if the concerts start again at 9 PM or 9:30. Either way that is during Emi's show so I will play it by ear what I cast after the afternoon concerts.

Edit: all times listed above are Eastern
Second edit: listing Rob as the 4PM concert

Positive Attitude will be on from 7 to 8 PM during Byron's show, so that concert will be broadcast only on the webcam here: http://www.justin.tv/cononthecob

Third Edit: The rest of the schedule for tonight

9:00 Dual Core
9:30 Worm Quartet
10:15 CRAP (warning, this group is well-named)
11:00 Mike & Ike (no idea who these are)
11:45 Sudden Death
12:30 Seamonkey

Scheduled breaks are 6-7 PM and 8-9 PM

(I posted this to my LJ when I meant to post this here...)

It looks like the CotC concerts on Saturday will begin at 2 PM and go most of the time until 1 AM (there are some breaks here). I will definately cast the afternoon concerts since those don't conflict with anyone's show (Jayekitty, I need to know if you are casting Tom Smith's concert at 5 PM so I know to leave the stream at that time so you can take over). The evening concerts are at the same time as Byron's and Emi's shows (and one of the scheduled concert breaks is the first half of Emi's showtime). So I will be streaming concerts on the fly again but won't step on other plans already in place.

Co-ordinating concerts from CotC

I am right now casting Luke's 2-3PM concert from Con on the Cob. I have been asked by Devo Spice to also cast his concert tonight at 11:45, which is 15 minutes before the scheduled end of BMZ's show. Also, I know Jayekitty will be casting some of the concerts from ConClave tonight. I would like to co-ordinate when I can cast concerts tonight from CotC without stepping on the other DJ's. BMZ, would you mind if I take over the stream when Devo Spice begins? Looking at the schedule, Worm Quartet is on before Devo Spice at 11PM.

This is totally unplanned, so this is NOT me trying to override scheduled DJs. So I will cast around planned stuff (like Jayekitty's casting of concerts from ConClave).

So...Weird Al has been talking digital distribution for his new songs. To get them out to the public so they're still hot and fresh and topical.

Well, that was last month. Here's today's blog from his MySpace page:

------------

NEW SINGLE!

Remember when I said I was going to start releasing tracks to iTunes as soon as I finished recording them? Well, I'm in the studio this very moment – and the first track released from my next album will be available on iTunes a week from today (October 7)!

This is extremely exciting for me. One of the hardest things I've had to deal with in my career is keeping my material topical even though I only release albums every 3 or 4 years. Now, with the advent and popularity of digital distribution, I don't have to wait around while my songs get old and dated – I can get them out on the Internet almost immediately. It kind of boggles my mind – I thought of the idea for this new song a week ago, and next week it's getting released!

I'm only supposed to "tease" this release right now – I'll post more info about it in a couple days. But I will say that it's a parody of a song that very recently was (or perhaps still is) the number one song in the country. That would be another first for me – I don't think I've ever released a parody of a song while the original song was still number one!

iTunes will have an exclusive on this song for two weeks, after which I guess it will be available wherever else digital downloads are sold. But I'm really kind of hoping this sucker will chart, so if you can, please buy it the first week it's out!

If this release goes well, there will be more to come. Thanks in advance for your support!

Al

HOLYCRAPHOLYCRAPHOLYCRAP!
