Heartthrob Harry 'is ousted by Ron'

Harry Potter fans desperate to see the teenage wizard get romantically involved with his swotty friend Hermione Granger may be disappointed. At a charity reading in New York, author JK Rowling reportedly appeared to suggest that the pretty witch's heart is set on pal Ron Weasley.

Rowling, who is currently writing the seventh and final book in the mega-hit series, has previously revealed that two characters will be killed off before the story ends.

According to the New York Post, she told the audience that if Hermione were to look in the Mirror of Erised, which shows one's deepest desires, she said to cheers, that she would "see herself entwined with another person whose identity you can probably guess". She also grinned when she mentioned fans who "want Ron and Hermione", according to the newspaper.

Avid fans on the internet who have debated for years which wizard would win Hermione's love were quick to assume Rowling was referring to Ron with the mirror comment.

The Post said the writer told the 6,000-strong crowd at Radio City Music Hall: "There are people who wanted Harry and Hermione." When that elicited a great roar she apparently added in disbelief: "They're still out there. Come on now."

In a video screened before she appeared, Rowling was shown in her home holding a yellow portfolio containing the final chapter of the last book, which she wrote years ago. At a press conference yesterday, fellow writers Stephen King and John Irving urged her not kill Harry off.

"My fingers are crossed for Harry," Irving, the author of The World According to Garp, said at a press conference. King said he had confidence that Rowling would be "fair" to her hero.

now let me ask you all this....

if you didn't even read the 5th or 6th books...or were just starting out reading the series...who do you think Hermione would end up with??? Would it be the sidekick...or the hero??

My bet is still on the hero..

x-posted many places...

Well, that's kinda the point. The series isn't called Ron Weasley And The Other Kid Who Did All The Work.

If you had just read the first book or even heard of the series you would have immediately flashed to Hermie x Harry...Ron would be no where in the equation because she would pick the HERO not to sorta sidekick.

Never ever did I think that it was Ron and Hermione. I never saw it despite the R/Hr's claims that it's so "obvious". I support H/Hr. Always.

when I was about 10 reading these books, I thought "Harry/Hermione are cute together, they'd pair up at some point" never in a million years did I ever consider R/Hr until after I got the internet - and that was AFTER reading Book 4 too!

But then I grew up on the emotional side and became more aware of H/Hr and Book 5 was totally H/Hr, imo

Book 6 should never have existed -what a load of random pants

This is just me being optimistic, but what if people are misinterpreting Jo's comment about us still being around. What if (and I might be reaching) she was referring to the H/HR fans still being out there and was merely stating, "They're still out there" and then was replying to their "groans" and was saying "come on now" in reaction to their groans.

Just a thought, I'm probably being silly.

I second that one. ^_^
If only because I really don't feel like taking the time to write something up that won't make any sense in the end anyway. Then it would just be too much like HBP...<.<;;

That transcript is no more accurate than the one mugglenet posted. In other words.....It's not accurate! No two sites can even agree of what transpired.

When I was first introduced to Hermione I didn't like her very much (I know *bangs head on desk*) and I was thinking "Oh great, now J.K. is gonna pair Harry up with this girl and it's gonna be all moony and weird". Then Hermione developed as a character and I liked her more, though I still hoped Jo would leave romance out of the books. But the point of this is, I never would have seen Ron and Hermione coming if I wasn't connected to the fandom.

Now I was just the opposite. I loved Hermione from the beginning. She just reminded me so much of me, but more fun (you know getting into scrapes with 2 guys, then still having the knowledge to rectify the situation.

But I never even thought about RHr until a friend of mine said something a couple years ago...

I identify with her now. At the time I was kind of depressed and going through a phaze of self-loathing....Which didn't give Hermione any brownie points...

Don't be pissed, it's plausible!

Okay, I know that started out like I was some rabid Hr/R fan, but check this out. Hermione and Ron will be choice for current readers. Only because Hermione is a typical teen that doesn't see the destiny that's constantly starring her in the face. Hermione will want Ron because he's not right for her, he's confused about his own desires (the whole Lavender Brown thing) and Harry seems like a bit of a risk right now. Those of us that are avid H/Hr fans are like Hermione's mother, we see that Harry is best for her, we KNOW that Harry is best for her; but not until she leaves Hogwarts and experiences a bit of real life will she see it for herself. Harry thinks that she's like a sister to him in the series right now, or even like a 'mother hen', but later after he realizes that the only reason he likes Ginny is because he misses the love his mum could have given him and once he sews his 'royal oats', he'll find his way back to his one true love; and of course those of us with half a brain know that the one TRUE love is Hermione. Remember, just because Harry's secret power is love, that doesn't mean that anyone of the Trio actually know the signs of being in love vs. being infatuated. When I read articles like this article, I'm thinking that J.K. is probably trying to appeal to the early to mid teen fan base that she started with, hence the romantic situation you find our beloved H/Hr in. Don't fret. Even though the series will be over before the realistic romantic drama that we so wish to read will be delivered. Hold on to the faith that the true Pumpkin shippers will always be here to spread stories of truth!!

Like I said, don't be pissed. In the world of J.K. Rowling, an Hr/R romance is totally plausible.
