***This study has been expanded so that people who attended any high school in Canada can participate***
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: STUDY ON HOMOPHOBIA AND TRANSPHOBIA IN HIGH SCHOOL My name is Rebecca, I'm a graduate student in the School of Criminology at Simon Fraser University. I am conducting a study about homophobic and transphobic bullying in high schools. The research, involving group discussions with former high school students, is designed to inform practice, policy, and research and promote a safer learning environment for high school students in Canada. Interested in being involved? Join a short (1-1.5 hour) one-time discussion group. Do you meet the following criteria? 1) Gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, two-spirited or queer (GLBTTQ) individual who feels that you were bullied in high school because of your sexual orientation or gender identity; 2) 19 years of age or older; 3) graduated from or left a Canadian high school in the year 2002 or later. If you fit these criteria and are interested in discussing your experiences (both positive and negative) with other GLBTTQ people who have also experienced bullying you’re invited to participate! Refreshments will be provided. For more information, or to volunteer, please contact Rebecca at bullystudy@hotmail.com. x-posted

Paul Callow, a convicted rapist recently completed his 20 year prison sentence. During this time he did receive some therapy, but did not seem to respond to it. He admitted to his psychologist that he had indeed raped 26 women, not only the 5 he was convicted of and showed no remorse.
Also while in jail he attempted to rape a nurse during drug counseling. This man is apparently moving into the Newton area and I for one will not stand for it. He committed the crimes in Ontario and is never allowed to set foot in Ontario again, so why should we be stuck with him? He was incarcerated before the dangerous offenders act came into play, so instead of being slowly integrated into society he was just released. As of Feb 23rd he is a free man and is apparently choosing to reside in Newton.
I have contacted the Mayor of Surrey Dianne Watts and together we are organizing a rally. If you want something to say about this, or want to support the protection of women over the protection of the “rights” of a convicted rapist I urge you to join us.
Make a sign (something along the lines of "Safety of the community" or "Protect Women" “Every woman is someone's daughter” or anything you come up with yourself) and join us at the Newton Exchange Bus Loop at 72nd and 138th near the Newton Wave Pool at 2pm on Sunday February 25th, 2007. Bring your family, friends and please forward this to everyone on your email lists. We have to get the word out that a convicted rapist, who is at high risk to re offend is living in our area.
News crews will be on the scene.
Even if you can't make it to the rally, show your support by sending this to everyone you can.
**Edit**
This rally is more about wanting to make the public aware that he is here than trying to chase him out into other people's areas. Just to clarify.

5:44 pm - Whistler in March
|

I'm coming to Vancouver (well staying in Ladner) next month (20 March - 3 April) Am really tempted to drive up to Whistler as I am sure it's really beautiful this time of year.
Am I insane to even be thinking this? Will the drive be too treacherous? Don't want to get stuck in my rental car in the unknown.
Thoughts people please.
Thanks :)

We found an elderly Pomeranian on Saturday Jan 27th around the area of 168th and Fraser Highway in the Fleetwood area of Surrey.

He is black in color with a greying muzzle. There were no tags, collar, tattoo or microchip found. He is still intact, was heavily matted and has a head tilt to the left. It also appears that there is a previous injury to one of his front legs.

stay away from uhaul. expecaly the surrey location. Nothing but headach!
we reserved our uhaul at the begining of the month for over night. They were suposed to call us to let us know where to pick it up, and let us know if it was for sure we could have it for 24 hours.
well flash forward to yesterday,. we end up calling around as we havent herd from them and are suposed to pick up the truck TODAY! we find out that they have our truck in surrey. thats fine.
flash forward to today. My husband calls me telling me we only have the tuck till 5pm!!!
SO i call uhaul as im at work stuck here on the day i move as i couldent get the day off. AND i find out that they said they talked to my husband (never did) and that that was the longest they could get it for us.
If we would have known, we would have gotten the same uhaul from a friend on the island, for a 3 day rental for the same price as our till 5pm rental, and gotten a discount!!!!
SO, i ended up calling in, got a REALY rude guy at the head office, was totaly condecending to me, i was so upset with the way they treated me that i was bawling at work, and had to go outside becouse i dident want people to hear the words i was saying.
SO i called BCTV and they said to get a conatct name for them to call, well i did that, and wow! that moved mountans! I ended up getting a call saying that we could have the truck till 6:30AM the next morning, and i also got us 25% off. BUT that is still no help for the way they treated us! and there rudeness! My husband was told by a person there quite rudly to "take it or leave it" about the 5pm drop off!
Another thing, no matter wether your going through a moving company or uhaul or budget rent a truck, CHECK THE BBB!!!! we never did, and i checked now and found out that the surrey location has 3 open complantes that havent been fixed! and 2 of them invovle being over charged and not getting money back!!
One thing, be very carefull of uhaul or any other place like that!

10:46 pm - I miss Delta
|

I returned home to North Delta for the Xmas holidays, I am currently residing in Japan. So much has changed so many new shops. My favorite place to hang out at as a kid was Anniville park and in elementary school we always used to go on field trips to Deas Island. I used to go canoeing there. Damn I am completely homesick.

I know this was already posted in the Vancouver LJ community, but I thought that since this is used so sparingly, it might as well be reposted.

Hey y'all..
Why doesn't North Delta get the "Delta Optimist" delivered here?! That's pretty fucking shitty, don't you think? Especially since Ladner and Tswassen were soooo incredibly relient on North Delta back in dem 'Pioneer Days'.. Pretty 'bunk' if you ask me. I was pissed when I opned up a copy of the Now (with "I <3 Surrey" written on the front!!) to get a copy of a DELTA newspaper that I'd never even heard of before! Sheesh...
Anyway, just moved back to ND from Manning Park a few months ago... (although, most of you who are on here from ND know that already..)
Okay, my rant's done...
current mood: annoyed current music: cold water - damien rice

Part-time position available at the "Best Dry Cleaners (Ladner) 8years running" (as voted by South Delta residents in the Optimist newspaper).
Job description:
Front Counter Person *accept incoming orders *sort, price, and tag items to be cleaned *sort clean clothes *bag outgoing orders/file order chits *cash handling *daily store maintenance *cash-out/day end paper work *weekly phone-call reminders for pick-ups
Monday - Friday 2-6pm (sometimes earlier if the boss is away but you'll be given notice in that case) Saturdays the hours vary between either 8:30-1pm or 1-6pm. Sometimes you'll be asked to work all day (8:30-6 - you get 1.5hrs OT pay when working these occasional all-day shifts)
The job is pretty simple, not very stressful. Dress code is basically whatever as long as you look presentable (I wear jeans and whatever shirt I want, really.) Pay starts at $8/hr but she's open to giving raises based on job performance etc.
Really great customers, a good base clientele (ie regulars), and the other employees are really fun too.
I'm going to be setting up interviews for next week, so email me your resume if interested - jaclyn2 @ gmail.com or call me at the store tomorrow 604-940-0500.
Thanks!
