A 38-Year-Old Bardess Sue!
Found on the Godawful Fanfiction Boards, and boy, does this story deserve its place there!

Story Or Series Title: The Empty Vessel
Fandom: Bard Lord of the Rings
Culprit Author's Name: Zedrippyvessel (Really. I kid you not.)

Full Name (plus titles if any): To quote the being posing as Galadriel:
You are Bronwyn Morgan ap Powell. You are the Historian of the first Three Ages, the Storyteller of the Races, the Protector and Seer of the Future,  the Musician of the All, the Voice of the Unheard, the Keeper of the Truth and of the Innocent. You are to be the Founder and Mother of the Celtic Bards. You are the Last Empty Vessel and when you become filled, you are to be the Bard of Middle Earth.
Full Species(es): Hybrid--Angstia Puella x Dea Dubiosa
Hair Color (include adjectives): "Her thick brown hair spread
out like a fan, still damp, but he could see traces of deep burgundy red in the depths of its darkness."
Eye Color (include adjectives): "Large brown eyes" with "fire" in them.
Unusual Markings/Colorations: Golden skin, "large, melon-shaped breasts" and "child bearing marks on her stomach and upper hips" that arouse Haldir.
Special Possessions (if any): Haldir's love. The favor of the Valar. Modern knives that are considered magical by the residents of Middle-Earth. The urplest of urple prose.

Annoying Origin: Is sent to Middle-earth by the Valar after she attempts to commit suicide when her husband and four-year-old son (who has Down's Syndrome) are killed. The Valar apparently have lousy aim; she winds up filthy, lost and terrified in the Mines of Moria. Then she and the Fellowship run into each other, and she heals three members of the Fellowship and helps save the rest of them from Orcs. The Fellowship takes her to Lothlorien to be healed.
Annoying Connections To Canon Characters: She and Haldir seem to be destined to bring forth a special child. She and Haldir become the ancestors of Socrates, Confucius, Cleopatra, Merlin and William Rufus (son of William the Conquerer).
Annoying Special Abilities: The ability to change Tolkien's elves into sex-crazed maniacs. Forces Haldir to call her "Baraer," which the author claims means "fiery one." Turns Thranduil into a hater of humans who refers to her as Haldir's "pet." Transforms Galadriel--the Lady of the Golden Wood, bearer of Nenya, seer and leader of her people, into a giggling teenager eager to have her toes painted by Bronwyn. (This is not an exaggeration.)
Other Annoying Traits: She has speshul musical powers. Her voice, post-sex, can reproduce Elton John, Ed Rollins, Aerosmith, Beethoven, etc., perfectly. And by perfectly, I mean "with full orchestral accompaniment." Yes, her voice can produce the sounds of violins, trumpets, drums, double basses, pianos, and multiple singers ALL AT THE SAME TIME. She gains the ability to use music as a weapon (long after I thought that she was doing so, believe me). Oh, and she gets to have really loud sex with Haldir in the middle of a battle with Orcs and not be noticed by said Orcs.

One of the AUTHOR'S annoying traits is that she only uses quotation marks and apostrophes sporadically.

Please include a small sample of the worst of this story:

The room is dark and I have cried a bucket full of tears, yet the
grief remains, nor does it diminish. The ivories beckon to me, they
call my name sorrowfully, but I can not answer. The strings sing
sadly, yet I can not respond. My throat contracts, yet when I attempt
to pour the water from the pitcher, the vessel is empty. I set it
down and begin to weep anew. I am alone, yet I feel the calming
presence and her hand upon my shoulder. "Rest. Lay down your head.
Change comes. It comes on graceful arrows. He is coming." I fall into
grateful oblivion. And dream of his tiny voice. "Mama? Mama? Fower fo
Mama. Dun-dun love Mama..."

***

"Come back to bed, darling", she purred, allowing the sheet to fall, exposing perfect, pointed breasts. She smoothed the side next to her. "You've allowed me to sleep far to much tonight."

The March Warden looked at the silver haired beauty. "I am not your darling. What will it take for you to understand that? You are nothing more than a receptacle for my lust." He turned back to the window.

The she-Elf's look changed to one of contempt the moment his attention lay elsewhere and her voice dripped venom. "You seek me out willingly enough. I have kept myself for only you for a millennium. And what do I have to show for it? You have made me a laughing stock among the Lady's maidens. " She rose from the bed regally, sheet draped around her tall, slender body. Her tone changed, softened, as did the mask of her face; a face of sweetness, well practiced in her mirror. Her hand went to his well-muscled arm. "Haldir, why wait? What questions could you still have? We have been partnered for so long. Why not make it...permanent. Your parents would have been ple-"

His hand gripped hers tightly and removed her fingers from his arm. "Do not tell me what would have pleased my parents. You hold yourself out for me because you consider me your best catch. I know how many others you bed with when I am not here!" Her eyes widened. "Yes!" he spoke harshly before she could defend herself. "My brothers talk. I know they have enjoyed you separately... and together. I know others have as well! " He slung her hand away from with contempt. "You would bed Lord Celeborn, if he would even look your way. You might be a laughing stock, but you have made yourself one. And I am one as well, because I continued to take you into my bed."

***

Her size made it impossible for her to lie down in his lap, so she settled for cuddling against him. I feel like such a Mary Sue. she whispered.

Haldirs eyebrows furrowed together. A Mary Sue? What is a Mary Sue? Bronwyn sighed.

In my world, a Mary Sue is a character written to be either totally helpless and insipid, perfect, or Xena, Warrior Princess.

Haldirs eyes never left the landscape. And who is this Xena Warrior Princess?

Bronwyns arms tucked tighter around him, their babe jostling between them. Xena doesnt need anybody. She has awesome sword skills, this round blade that she throws and she yells Ayiaiaiaiaiaiaia ! Haldir scrunched his eyes in pain at the pitch she produced.

You are no Mary Sue, Baraer. You are no Xena...

Duh!

You are not perfect...

She punched him.

And, you are not helpless.

She sniffed. I feel helpless.

You FEEL pregnant. He hugged her close. Helpless, my eye! You are the same woman who stood in the Dol Guldur and ordered a dragon to stand down! Called him an ass-wipe! Questioned his aim! You are the same woman who fought at my side in the fields of Mirkwood, stomped on Thranduils foot, told him no, fought by my side in the flets of Lothlorien, impaled herself on a sword to save Heridil, brought that same Elf closure and completion with his father, called upon the powerful deities Beevis and Cornholio to aid you in your fight with the Uruk hai and Wargs. He looked deep in her eyes. You put up with me. You, Baraermin, are not helpless.

***

She stood that night, on the cliffs, calling to her child.

It is time.

"John, John, harken to my words..."

Over the ocean, the waters, beyond the gulls, the craigs, the fog, young eyes focused on the inner voice.
Yes?

John, John do you hear my voice?

Bright eyes shot up from the book he was reading.

Yes.

Listen most carefully my child. I am going to tell you a story about a great man, a curious traveler, who sailed far West to the an island that the Fairy Folk called Tol Eressea, the Land of Release. His name was Eriol...

For a long time, the child listened, listened carefully, until he was jolted from his reverie, by his teacher's loud grumblings...

"John? John? John Ronald Reuel Tolkien! You will NEVER amount to anything if you do not pay attention and learn how to read!"...

I think this is the first story i've ever read where one of the characters actually says the Sue is NOT a Mary Sue.

"Come back to bed, darling", she purred, allowing the sheet to fall, exposing perfect, pointed breasts.

That's what amused me most... and from someone who raped Haldir, elves in general, canon in general, and recorded history.

Nope. It won the May 2003 Golden Mallorn Award for being excellent Haldir fan fiction, in fact. Check out the website:

Ahem... I'm sorry, this isn't a troll. It is a self-insertion of the most blatant, and the author is one scary mamma-jamma. I know this because I belonged for a brief (and still far too long) period on a Yahoo group of which she is a promiment member.

Much like her avatar in this fic, she's in her late 30's, has one son and majored in music, and a MAJOR hard-on for Haldir, even going so far to call him HalMuse and write PWPs featuring her sexcapades with him. And Snape, whom she calls SnapeBaby. Because SnapeBaby's another of her muses. Apparently, HalMuse and SnapeBaby don't get along well and are always arguing over which of them gets to boff her that night in their LoveDungeon. Seriously.

I was able to wade through ~15 or so chapters of this mess because I too have a major hard-on for Haldir but after a while I just could not take it any more. The last straw for both this story and that Yahoo group both was when she won a fic contest (and it wasn't by merit, it was literally drawn from a hat-- democratic but not exactly a discerning method of running a contest) and the prize was, jokingly, a date with Rumil or Orophin (Haldir's brothers).

The author then wrote ( a multi-part fic ) detailing all the raunchy sex she enjoyed with Rumil and Orophin (because, of course, she's so irresistible that he's just gotta get with her even though Rumil cheated to win the coin toss because she's such a hottie he HAD to have her). HalMuse and SnapeBaby featured in the ficas well, both tortured with jealousy that she was boffing other guys.

It was so disturbing and creepy that I stopped reading the fic, quite the Yahoo group, and never looked back. I wish ta God I were making this up. I really, really do.

This is really one of the worst and blatant Mary Sues around.
Saying your not a Mary Sue (or some other character else saying your not) is a sure sign of Mary Sueness.
And the ending... oh dear god, the ending. This Sue not only raped canon, she also raped history and the genius that was Tolkein. Dear god, this is bad.

Yes, yes, perfect. Very nice, indeed. [cleans and returns the axe to Gimli with a fond smile] Thanks ever so, Gimli. I know you're not a huge fan of Haldir but you're so kind to indulge me my... quirks.

Are You A Flamer?
[info]goddessbyline
2004-01-08 07:14 pm UTC (link)
Are You A Flamer?

Since no one admits to being a flamer, and disguise their flames as honest and well-meaning reviews... This little quiz will help you see the truth... Are you a nice person... or are you a TROLL?

1. You read a story that contains a plot you believe to be erroneous. You:

a) sigh and go on.
b) reply with a query that elicits more information.
c) draft an angry response in your mind.
d) post that angry response NOW.

2. Have you ever posted a review with any of the following phrases: "You (descriptive adjective or pejorative noun)" or "You obviously don't understand/know/appreciate ..."?

a) Never.
b) Sometimes.
c) Often.
d) It's in my signature file.

3. Your postings ...

a) what postings? I'm a lurker.
b) ask what I need to know.
c) answer questions when I'm sure of the answer.
d) restate the replies of others, only better.

4. Within the group or forum that you most often frequent, you are:

a) less knowledgeable than most.
b) about average.
c) more knowledgeable, but I don't flaunt it.
d) without me, the group would fall into an abyss of ignorance.

5. Everyone else in the group is:

a) encyclopedic and intimidating.
b) just folks.
c) in need of guidance.
d) functionally incapable of understanding my simple, well-articulated points.

6. Replies to your reviews most often take the form of:

a) sneering silence.
b) reasonable discourse.
c) multiple, angry diatribes.
d) death threats.

7. When first entering a new group, you:

a) read all the threads in awe.
b) read everything but hang back.
c) engage in discourse where I feel comfortable.
d) respond to as many messages as possible, so people know I've arrived.

8. Online, you most enjoy:

a) reading others' conversations.
b) give and take.
c) getting a rise out of people.
d) really making the fur fly.

9. The most important thing in an online group is:

a) consensus.
b) keeping threads on-topic and relevant.
c) introducing new ideas and asides.
d) hawking my product or service to a new, ripe audience.

Score yourself one point for every "a," two for every "b," three for each "c" and four for each "d."

9-15 points: You're holding back.
16-22 points: You're a team player, if a bit on the quiet side.
23-29 points: You probably get on people's nerves occasionally.
30+ points: Burn your keyboard before you inflict yourself on anyone else.

Not a flame but an opinion and a few questions
(Anonymous)

Cgwriting:

I'd like to tell you something you need to know, or at least, I think you may wish to know (for your own edification):

One of your very own members is warning the people you flame. Sends them a little note with a link. Says you are not a very nice person. (Well, SHE says it...I don't know you from adam.) Some authors I know have already received a few. Not one, not two, but several of them. Seems you have a dissenter in your midst. Why do you seem to thrive on anger? Your furious reviews of stories, and sometimes of the authors, remind me of a demented windmill! How have these writers hurt you? Are you aware you are hurting and demeaning people you have never met? Is kindness not a word in your extensive vocabulary? Has it occurred to you that you are not the only person who agonizes over a phrase or a sentence? Have you ever tried to paint or sculpt or formulate a new theory of relativity? Are you not aware that everyone has a gift according to their own potential and that no one, NO ONE, has a right to demean and destroy the work of another, the take cheap shots at their personality and lifestyle? Are you THAT perfect???

I have noticed your fictions don't get many reviews. Have they received any awards? Awards are NOT given out from a drawing out of a hat, Cg...they are voted upon. Perhaps if you allow others to write and stick to commenting on the story and NOT THE AUTHOR, you might find your own stories nominated. Or maybe they have been nominated? I don't know. I dislike your stories, but you will not find me flaming you anywhere. You have a right to write what pleases you, as do others.

I have also noticed you keep mentioning the number of members of your list. Are numbers so important? Is this a competition?

Has it occurred to you that people are joining your list to see what gaffe you pull next?

You are definitely violating some of LJ TOS and that is to post personal attacks on reviews, as you did with the EV story and the author. Dragging a person's private life into a public forum, ESPECIALLY WHERE IT CONCERNS A MINOR, is cause for concern. Are you not aware of the privacy laws concerning children, or don't you simply care? You should care. Don't go off the handle now, trying to make things blander by saying you did nothing of the sort. You did, you brought up another person's personal life and situation and that is a definite no-no in internet-dom. If you wish to post personal tidbits about your own life, that is your perogative. But not another person who has not given you approval or consent to do so. Oh wait...too late....you can't delete it now and say you never said it because I am sure somebody, somewhere, has downloaded the entire barrage onto disk.

I sincerely hope you offer some sort of apology to this author who has done nothing to you save write a story you didn't like. But, judging from your past entries and the fury you display, (by your own admission, you fly into furies), I doubt that will happen.

In the meantime, I hope you turn this forum around into a professional and stylized board, as many other, finer than yours, abound....because they respect the personal integrity of every living soul.

This disturbs me.

The sockpuppets are amusing, though.

I do wish, however, that authors would get the sex for elves = marriage thing straight. It's really not that hard, is it? Elves have sex, they are married. Elves do not cheat. Or remarry (except in very rare cases).

She spawned Tolkien? With a fictional character? *Scratchs head* It's bad fic yes. I worry if she takes this seriously yes. But if its what floats her little boat let her have at it.

Just like you folks have the right to rip to shreads, after all editors make you all look like declawed kittens.

Would you prefer a reality check or the cold hard cash of truth?
[info]hardlyfatal
2004-01-09 04:44 am UTC (link)
Just in the interest of accuracy (and I'm gonna keep saying it as often as it takes) I never said ONE DAMNED WORD that wasn't publicly mentioned on a Yahoo group with over 300 members.

I have never had personal dealings with the author. Have never exchanged emails with her. Do not know her real name, where she lives. I might have gotten it wrong that she was divorced (and in that post, mentioned that her marital status was mere speculation on my part, anyway) but I know she mentioned being a mother, her age (late 30's), and that she majored in music in college. No, I don't know which college.

I also know various other things she stated PUBLICLY in the Yahoo group, but which I haven't mentioned because they're irrelevant to what was my original point: the self-insertion of the author into this fic. That is the sole reason I mentioned ANY of it. Not because I'm jealous. Not because I have a personal vendetta against the author. But to illustrate my main criticism of this fic: it's a big pile of purple self-inserted Mary-Sue prose. That's all.

It wasn't a personal attack. It was a criticism of the quality of the fic. And the post where I borrowed Gimli's axe was to slaughter the Mary-Sue, people, not the author. So get a grip on yourselves.

Incidentally, no, I am not particularly thrilled with the quality of my own work. In fact, I am told regularly that it's better than I think it is. There are dozens of posts on my Yahoo group where I am agonizing about various things and begging people to tell me where I've gone wrong. It is true that I have over 500 members (a number which continues to stun me, because as I've stated, I don't think my own stuff is that great) but I do not consider it my personal fan club and indeed when some members get overly complimentary it makes me feel distinctly uncomfortable.

You want to criticize my stories? Go ahead. This goes for deleterius folk as well as flamer-folk. My website is available ( here ) and I invite all and sundry to read it and send me whatever feedback you wish. Feel free to flame, even. I'm aware that some of it is bad, and make no excuse besides that I've only been writing for about eight months, and had never read the LotR books prior to last August. I expect to improve with practice, and your critiques. I won't even mind if you decide to post it here, in deleterius.

Thank you for this opportunity to clarify the situation.

Just a Few Questions...

Okay...enlighten me please Cinnamongirlie or whatever your name is. What was the point of all this? Do you feel like a bigger person now? Can you sleep better at night? Do you masturbate and dream of flaming people and of being the nasty and cold blooded jealous bitch you are? Are you just a lonely little directionless child without her mommy and people called friends? Did I strike a nerve? I think so...

Obviously you have some serious mental incapacities or you wouldn't be spending so much time trying to cover your flames with poorly disguised intellectual retorts. Bad, bad form dearie! At least come right out and be honest about it. Don't patronize people. It makes you look even more fake and misinformed than everyone already knows you are.

Tell me...what are you people like 12 fucking years old or something? Honestly folks...grow up and find something called a LIFE. You know, self respect, manners, INTELLIGENCE, genuine writing talent like Zee's, and perhaps some common courtesy to other human beings. This whole little Zee bashing party you have going on is just really sad. It says so much more than you all know. I really feel sorry for you people...truly I do. I'll think about you all while I'm thoroughly enjoying something you are obviously not well acquainted with: a LIFE.

You people make me want to vomit. I'm talking real Exorcist projectile all over the place. I think this whole sorry excuse for a livejournal needs to be cleansed of evil immediately. You all need to be doused in holy water.

THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!
THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!
BE GONE FOUL DEMONS OF JEALOUSY!
GO BACK UNDER THE SLIMY ROCKS FROM WHENCE YOU CAME!

Zee has done NOTHING to you. Not one damned thing. Her only mistake was writing a damned good story that you're all so jealous of you can't see straight and... I'm wondering if your eyeballs are going to pop out soon from extreme stupidity saturation. So...in turn... you launch an Anti-Mary Sue attack on her. Wow, I'll bet she is just destroyed, let me tell you. *gags* Honestly, so you don't like her story? Fine. You don't like it, don't read it. Real hard concept there folks. There are far worse stories out there to skewer, believe me I read some at your site dearie! Big deal. You hate her and her stories, MOVE ON. Leave her personal life and her son out of this. Don't you dare talk about her son or anyone else with Down's Syndrome or learning problems. That is just fucking sick and pathetic. This is crossing the line lady. You have a serious problem. Your mindless little groupie followers have a serious problem.

I suggest you all seek some real help as soon as possible before it is too late. Maybe with some intense therapy and some good shock treatments, you'll be back to decent human beings sometime in the distant future. Though, some of you could use a good strike of Gimli's axe since you all seem so fond of using it. Do the world a favor and take it to your own necks...the world doesn't need jealous little lemmings like you:)

In closing, I visited your site, and I have to tell you, that your stories leave MUCH to be desired, so perhaps you should think about that before you knock someone else's hard work. Besides, it isn't fun when your ugly comments and badly written flames are turned on you...it'll happen...quite soon I'm sure;)

Disclaimer - this is the first time I have seen this and the first (and only) time I have responded, so all responses attributed to me - aren't. In fact, I have asked for them for my supporters to stop now that I know what this site is about. And it is just pointless.

You know, I read this and I wasn't going to enter this debate. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I am the first to admit that EV isn't to everyone's liking. And that's fine. There are fics I hate. There are canon fics I think should have never been written and I see some flamers here who have written some of the most God-Awful Mary Sues I have ever seen.

But we are not God.

If for the very reason that my Elves - or Elf - is experienced sexually and that just ticks you to no end... don't read it. It's not like I'm the first. Don't misquote it (oh yeah - I see it) and don't claim things that aren't true (oh - the false claims!)

However... What personal information Cinnamongrrl posted was mostly incorrect - She assumed much. However about my son... leave him out of it. It was a pitiful excuse for attention, pointless and has no merit.

But then again, neither does this forum, but that is neither here nor there. It serves a purpose.

I'm still trying to figure it out, but I'm sure it does...

Wow.

I wonder how long ago this was written?

The plot and character remind me a lot of the Spellsong Cycle by L.E Modesitt? Although I quite liked Anna and I don't think she was quite as widely...adored...as the character seems to be in this story.

You've been reported to the LiveJournal Abuse Team
(Anonymous)
2004-01-09 08:38 am UTC (link)
I have edited out all the personal and specific info from the report I've filed to LJ, to ensure the privacy of other people.
But I want you to know that the report have been done and that I'm not alone in reporting you all.

--------------------------------------------------

I'm writing to file a complaint about one of the live journals on your server. http://www.livejournal.com/community/deleterius/360372.html?view=4876468#t4876468

I have read through yout ToS and I have found that the owner of this journal is in voilation of five of your rules...

1. Upload, post or otherwise transmit any content that is in LiveJournal.com's opinion to be unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive to another's privacy (up to, but not excluding any address, email, phone number, or any other contact information with out the written consent of the owner of such information), hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable;

2. Upload, post or otherwise transmit any content that you do not have a right to transmit under any law or under contractual or fiduciary relationships (such as inside information, proprietary and confidential information learned or disclosed as part of employment relationships or under nondisclosure agreements);

3. Upload, post or otherwise transmit any content that infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright or other proprietary rights of any party;

4. "Stalk" or otherwise harass another person or company;

5. Allow usage by others in such a way as to violate LiveJournal.com's TOS;

I just hope (and trust) that LJ will investigate this without automatically assuming that your claim is valid. If they look at all, they will find that your accusations are totally without merit.

Let's take this bit by bit, shall we?

1. Upload, post or otherwise transmit any content that is in LiveJournal.com's opinion to be...

unlawful, No. Stating opinions is not unlawful.
harmful, No one was harmed. Though some over-inflated egos might have been deflated a bit.
threatening, I was the only one who was threatened, and not by members of this community, so that doesn't count.
abusive, No, merely unwelcome opinions.
harassing, The members of this community were harassed but we kept to ourselves and did not seek to harass others.
tortious, No legal issues here.
defamatory, Defamation requires identification. And since we don't know who this writer is, her good name can hardly have been harmed.
vulgar, obscene, The only thing close to this was the sex-riddled story.
libelous, Definitely not. (See "defamatory")
invasive to another's privacy (up to, but not excluding any address, email, phone number, or any other contact information with out the written consent of the owner of such information), If "woman in her late 30s" who has a son is invasive of privacy, we've just invaded the privacy of a hell of a lot of peope fitting that description.
hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable; If there's hate, it came from both sides, so I don't see how that has much merit. There were no racial or ethnic issues at all (unless you count elves as a race).

2. I don't think anyone here was under any legal obligations as stated here. Tell me how this applies at all.

3. Upload, post or otherwise transmit any content that infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright or other proprietary rights of any party; Well, there certainly aren't patent, trademark or trade secret infringements here. [info]deleterius and other communities have been instructed that quoting from stories is acceptable. LJ has stricter rules than what copyright laws are. And LJ does not allow posting of whole stories or whole chapters. However, quoting an excerpt for review is 100% acceptable, both under copyright law, and under LJ rules.

4. "Stalk" or otherwise harass another person or company; Since you have come here, to threaten and insult us and refuse to leave, you are the ones guilty of stalking and harassing. As far as I know, no member of this community has stalked or harassed you or the author of the story. In fact, I don't think any of us have visited whatever online site you congregate on. Tell me, please, how in the world you think a member of this community has stalked or harassed anyone. Commentary and review on a story hardly constitutes harassment.

5. Allow usage by others in such a way as to violate LiveJournal.com's TOS; [info]tviokh takes this community seriously, and she posts the rules for all to see and she corrects violations if she ever sees them.

Jealousy shmealousy...
[info]eljuno
2004-01-09 03:26 pm UTC (link)
You know, I posted this up there as a comment, but...hell, I'm in love with my own ego anyway.

Enough with this "jealousy" shit.

The story was bad. Bee ay dee. The canon characters were OOC, the writing was overwrought, the prose was purple, the original character was a blatant Mary Sue, and, in short, a good deal of the writing was nothing more than laughable.

Now, I'm just a little RPS badfic writer, but I know when a story is hurting my eyeballs. This one was, mostly because it was horrid, but not BLATANTLY horrid. For instance, if I see chatspeak in a fic, I can turn off that part of my brain that expects a decent story and just snicker. When I'm dealing with something that approaches or reaches coherency, my brain hurts because I CAN'T really turn off that part of my brain.

And, hey. If you anons want to make fun of MY writing in recompense for this, go for it. My writing journal's over here ([info]broken_prayers) and I think that "Can't Get There from Here" is particularly sub-par.

Ewww. I missed this report during my trip up in the highlands, it seems. But the funny thing is that I'd encountered this story before, both in ff.net and aff.net. I even had it bookmarked, because that's what I do to Sue fics that I find particularly amusing. Kudos to [info]arabel for finally putting up a report, because I certainly didn't have the patience to plod through the entire thing. It was just too horrible for my taste, and it kwpt getting even more so with each new chapter. I never got to the ending, and now I realize that I have to go back and read it so that I'll be able to assess the extent of the canon rape here. Not to mention the murder of historical bloodlines.

I actually liked the fact that the author was knowledgeable about history, art, literature, and music for once, and was able to inject this into the self-insert character, but as soon as I got to the first of the hawt elven sex scenes, whatever good opinion I had of the fic vanished, because by then "Bronwyn" was starting to show her self-insert Sueish characteristics. The part where Haldir asks whether they'd be making love to Beethoven or some other composer (I forgot which one) every time they make love made me cringe, because it gave me the mental image of Bronwyn Sue suddenly morphing into a huge sound system complete with subwoofer and two speakers for left and right while having sex. And intercourse with machines is just...

As for the kerfluffle going on here and in fandom_wank, I'd say that there really isn't any violation of LJ TOS here. Because for one thing, we are well within our rights to post excerpts from the story being reported. And if the information on the author came from a public Yahoo group, then the accusation the friend/sockpuppet was making becomes redundant. We are not attacking the author personally, what we are doing is going through the story's canon-disrupting devices with a fine tooth comb. Which is, I believe, the purpose of thsi community as stated in the use info.

I suppose that we'll have to wait for the LJ admin's decision on this whole debacle before we can resolve anything, since someone's already reported this post to them.

I missed this the firs time 'round.

You are the same woman who stood in the Dol Guldur and ordered a dragon to stand down! Called him an ass-wipe!

Let me see if I understand.
She called a dragon an...ass-wipe?

Just based on that alone, what tasteless, bottom of the barrel hack gave this fic an AWARD?!
Where badfic is concerned, I suppose this one does deserve an award.

called upon the powerful deities Beevis and Cornholio to aid you in your fight with the Uruk hai and Wargs. He looked deep in her eyes. You put up with me. You, Baraermin, are not helpless.

Okay.
Are we sure this isn't a trollfic? Maybe the author who came here is just jerking us around; who could read that line (and it's Beavis, by the by) and take this fic seriously?
Suddenly the "ass-wipe" comment seems to fall in to place.

I wonder if she called Sauron a buttmunch...

She called Galadriel "Girlfriend!"

It's my sad duty to inform you that Zee's crap is unfortunately not a trollfic. She's been hanging around the LOTR boards for quite awhile with a string of her little fangirls. They recently slaughtered someone who offered some constructive criticism and said *faint* that they didn't like the story.

And actually I heard through the grapevine that when Zee attended a con one of her fangirls had her autograph a printed copy of EV. She also asserts that she's had offers from publishing houses to publish EV.

To say that I'm overjoyed to see this here is an understatement.

Hmm... haven't read all the comments yet, but here's something you missed. Bronny was originally supposed to throw the ring in Mt. Doom instead of Frodo. Horrors.

Oh, and the sequel to this story involves Haldir's Ghost, Bronny, and Prof. Snape. I would post it, but it's too painful to even glance at. It can be found online though if any of you is brave enough to go read it.
