AboutWelcome to the greatest Degu (Octodon Degus) community on LJ.
This community is meant for owners of Degus, there fans, and anyone who has an interest in exotic animals. We welcome owners of similar animals such as guinea pigs, chinchillas, etc. Please post your pictures, comments, questions, videos, sounds, etc. It is all welcome here.
Degus are a long-term commitment and they're certainly not for everyone. Please do not buy degus on a whim; more and more degus are being turned in to animal shelters by people who were unprepared for the experience of owning them.
Please try to contact your local animal shelters to see if they have any Degus for adoption.
Degus are one of the friendliest, most curious small animals that you can find, this can lead to trouble unless proper precautions are taken. It is rare for a Degu to bite, and they will only do so under extreme circumstances.
You must also be very careful with a Degus tail, as they can fall off and will never grow back, leaving a horrible bloody stump.
