the pitch.

Editorial Anonymous has announced the winners of its Pitch Contest!  And it is hi-larious.  From Harry Potter meets Beatrix Potter winning the Drivel Award for the Overly Familiar to the I've Given Up Before I've Even Started Award for Outstanding Lack of Ambition...every one of these is worth reading...and learning from.

Enjoy!

Topic Discussion: That One Part You're So So Proud Of

all authors, and I imagine this to be doubly true of first-time authors, are proud of their books--and incredibly proud of a particular scene/character/moment/line/etc.

it might be the scene that you wrote, threw out, wrote, threw out and wrote again...or the character who you never thought you'd love as much as you do...or the line that made you laugh or cry or sigh and, every time you read it, you laugh or cry or sigh all over again...or that setting that just turned out to be too too perfect.

so this week's mission, should you choose to accept, is to tell us about the part of your baby you just can't stop feeling proud of. :)

Bio: Sarah MacLean

Name: Sarah MacLean

'09 Book Title:
The Season

Publisher:
Orchard Books

Favorite Books:
Is this question easy for anyone? Should it be easier for me because i'm a writer?!? (She asks, paranoid.) Ok...here goes...The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory, The Crimson Petal and the White by Michael Faber, The Life of Pi by Yann Martel, The Song of the Sparrow by Lisa Ann Sandell, and far too many trashy romances to list.

Favorite Bit of Writing Advice:
"Everybody walks past a thousand story ideas every day. The good writers are the ones who see five or six of them. Most people don't see any." - Orson Scott Card

Random Info About Me:
I've wanted to be a romance novelist for as long as I can remember, I am a world-class procrastinator, I think cupcakes have magic powers, I actually *like* the show New Amsterdam, I'm addicted to Project Runway, I have a dog named Baxter and a husband named Eric, I don't go anywhere without lip balm and I really really like hats & sunglasses--perhaps it's a latent desire to be a celebutante?

THE SEASON Synopsis:
Seventeen year old Lady Alexandra Stafford doesn’t fit into the world of Regency London — she’s strong-willed, sharp-tongued, and she absolutely loathes dress fittings. Unfortunately, her mother has been waiting for years for Alex to be old enough to take part in the social whirlwind of a London Season so she can be married off to someone safe, respectable, wealthy, and almost certainly boring. Alex is much more interested in adventure than romance.

Between sumptuous balls, lavish dinner parties and country weekends, Alex, along with her two best friends, Ella and Vivi, manages to find herself in her biggest scrape yet. When the Earl of Blackmoor is killed in a puzzling accident, Alex decides to help his son, the brooding and devilishly handsome Gavin, uncover the truth. It’s a mystery brimming with espionage, murder, and suspicion. As she and Gavin grow closer, will Alex’s heart be stolen in the process?
