I <3 Writers

I wanted to say thank you to Saundra for the signed copy of Homicide Life on the Streets! It arrived yesterday and my daughter and I were both very excited to ad it to our Relay for Life auction basket coffer.

And I must say, writers rock! We have about TEN signed books (and more on the way), plus bookmarks, book plates, etc., all donated by various writers. One of them even went to my publisher (this writer and I share the same one) to make sure my daughter received her personal email because she was nervous about messaging back and forth with a minor via Myspace. I couldn't believe it when I got an email from my editor saying she had been contacted and had been asked to forward the email address to us.

So... In general, we've been so fortunate, and I'm positively heart-warmed (is that a word?) by the kindness and generosity of my fellow writers.

Relay for Life Book Donation

Hi, guys!

We participate in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life every year, and this year one of our fund raisers is to auction off a literature-themed basket with signed books, book store gift cards, etc. If you guys have any signed books you'd be willing to donate or have a blog or website with a lot of author traffic and wouldn't mind posting a request for donations, we would really appreciate it!

Our team, Rock the Cure, is comprised of myself, my fourteen-year-old daughter who is the team captain, and about twenty teenagers, all of whom are avid readers and/or writers. They're having a lot of fun organizing everything and raising money to fund cancer research and have commented how "nice all the writers are"! Apparently the bands aren't as accessible (we're putting together a music basket as well, and the teen in charge of that one is having a lot of trouble). It's a great experience for them, and I especially love that they're learning that, if they care passionately about something and are willing to work for the greater good, there ARE those who will be willing to help. So far we have signed books donated from Linda Joy, Tina Ferraro, Niki Burnham, and Lisa Mcmann. But we can definitely use more, and they don't have to be YA books!

Thanks in advance!

Michelle

PS. Feel free to post requests anywhere you think will see traffic. I have to have everything in no later than June 9th...
