I'm disappointed but not surprised. My impression is that people in my community are aware of cultural appropriation as a moral thing, something bad that they're supposed to avoid, but aren't interested in engaging any further. (And of course whenever it does get heated, someone gets dismissive and rolls their eyes, like it's so tedious for them to interrogate their own spiritual practice. It's fun collecting new skills, though!)

I tried to make it gentle by including some comments on the history of appropriation I've found in elements of my own practice, but so far no bites.

I really like how they ask the questions directly to the viewer--makes it impossible to squirm out of examining oneself.

This was a great post/video.

Appropriation of Native American cultural materials is also an issue in American literary studies. Native American poet Wendy Rose wrote an essay on "Whiteshamanism" that may also be of interest.
