The companies are pretty much all much of a muchness, as far as I'm concerned, so I no longer care about who gets it, just that it's coming over here.

So? I wonder what other options there are - every single company out there has lots of complaints about it, and Viz has a deal with Shonen Jump, so there was very little chance that any other company would pick it up.

Hmm. While part of me is absolutely giddy that it's finally coming here (meaning that I can force my parents, friends, and everyone and their dog to read it), I still fear Viz. ... But still, really, what is there to edit? And surely they know that with a hugely popular thing like DN, pain will come upon any sort of fiddling with? However, almost more importantly, I just pray that the new pages are still translated online. ._. I'll buy the Viz manga, sure, but I don't want to be years behind.

That made my day. I've been holding off on buying the tankoban mostly since it seemed like Death Note would be picked up by an english publisher soon enough, and I'd rather own it in a language I can read than one I can understand maybe 5% of. Thank you for the news. ♥

yay? ^^; While I don't care for Viz and their editing tendencies all that much, there's not an alternative that springs to mind. And with the whole Viz/Shuesha merger thing it was bound to happen eventually. I'm glad it'll be coming out here, Viz will certainly give it greater recognition and that's a good thing. Personally, I'll stick to buying the tanks.

I think at least VIZ will do better job than Orange Tangerine. I've been retranslating the chapters, and when I read OT's version, omg, it's pretty mess. They translated it from Chinese version, so it made worse. I don't remember when they changed their translators, but it got better later on. But still...

Please don't just believe scanlation is always accurate. It was indeed butchered. You just didn't know the fact scanlation could have bad quality, too.

I'll be buying the VIZ version, I want to compare it with my translation >:)

oh no.. I fear for the future of death note! well just the future in America I suppose... Didn't VIZ ship a huge shipment of one of the Yami No Matsuei (English title = Descendants of Darkness) mangas without the first 30 some pages? I buy their version of Angel Sanctuary... well I disagree with a lot of their word/name choices, and complain about grammar errors that I expect professional companies to not have... and their definition of shoujo...which can be found on the back inside cover of their shoujo mangas such as Angel Sanctuary. Unfortunately... VIZ has liscenced just about every single one of the mangas that I read (as scanlations) from Earl/Count Cain to 20th Century Boys... ::sighs::

They edited one little thing out of Yami No Matsuei. Of course that's a huge deal (to some people...) but it's wasn't missing 30 pages... That's how rumors get started right. I'm very happy about this, I think they'll do a fine job like they've done with lots of their titles.

Just in time for my birthday! And so is Monster! Hurrah! I've been waiting for ages for them to release Monster. I was very worried when it was licensed and not released.

I'm crossing my fingers that the translation are good, but I'm mostly just thrilled that I can buy these in a book form I can read.

Well...that's...very bittersweet. On one hand, it's awsome that DN is finally making it to US shores, but Viz in incredibly annoying at times...

I really hate some of their editing, and it takes 354678641.21327867 years for them to release the damn manga... >.>

YUS. I've wanted to own this series for a while now! I don't really mind that it's Viz. I got Naruto from them and the only thing that bugs me is that every few pages there's a big < READ THIS WAY < . Because I'm going to forget on page 230 that manga reads right to left. Yeah.

BUT YAY TANGIBLE DEATH NOTE IN AMERICA WOO!

I think they do that because their target audience is people who aren't familiar with manga, and who are picking up the issue for the first time - so a new audience with each issue, because presumably if you're reading it for the second time, you'll have figured out which way to read by then.
