I still say it'd be very much excellent had they gotten the actor who played Kiriyama in Battle Royale for L. Least we know he can sport insane hair.

Hm. Don't know either of the actors at all, but it seems to me ilke the roles would be better reversed-- and not just because of hairstyles. To me --and I can only speak for myself-- the second guy is better looking, and canonically Light is supposed to be better looking than L... after all, the girls are basically crawling over each other to get to him. There are repeated references to Light being good-looking by plenty of people throughout the series.

Light is meant to be clasically attractive, whereas L is more quirky attractive. If I had to characterize these actors into categories from these pics, I would say the first one is more quirky and the second is more classically attractive.

I dunno, maybe they just chose unfortunate photographs and they will look more like the characters when they're on set and in makeup etc, but on terms of matching for looks alone this isn't the best casting I've borne witness to...

Providing this is all confirmed as true, of course. :D

im actually kinda pleased with the casting
i don't think that they should be switched because Fujiwara Tatsuya gives off a too happy go lucky kinda feel, a goody two shoes, while Matsuyama Kenichi gives off a kind of lazy feel, laid back. haha

Fujiwara did a pretty decent job of acting in BR. (Gosh, he looks so much older XD)

At first I thought, looks wise, that the roles should be switched; then I remembered Fujiwara's BR hairstyle. Pretty dead on, just darker.

I personally think it's a pretty good casting, except for Iron Chef dude. XD;;
I mean.. all the director has to do is deprive this L actor of sleep for like a year, and then grow out his hair. Then feed him lots of sugar =D And as for Fujiwara.. He's hot and he looks like a good Raito. I'm not sure about acting though. I'm bad at telling bad acting. >.>;

yummy! can't wait for the actual show to start~~~! how well both of them are able to portray their characters remain to be seen... I don't believe in thinking oh this person looks god, oh that person looks spot on, because in J movies/dramas, makeup is 80% of everything :D!

I'm not particularly fond of Fujiwara Tatsuya playing Light. Maybe after a hair cut and dye he'll be...I dunno cuter?

But that Matsuyama Kenichi! Hot damn is he fine. I think he'll make a wonderful L! After he grows his hair out and puts on some funky eyeliner of course XD

It does almost look like the actors/characters were reversed. I didn't give it much thought until now. Fujiwara appears to have a wider, shorter face and his eyes are farther apart than Matsuyama's. L has a wider, shorter face than Light and his eyes are farther apart. It's not just the hair thing.

Face shapes and eye-spaceage aside, Matsuyama looks like he can seriously put down that L dead-stare. He looks like Sid Vicious' Asian lovechild.

I think L looks correct in that he is kind of cute, but with a strange dodgy expression. okay, i thought he should be younger and a bit like the manga one...never mind. i like the manga one.

I think the guy who plays raito was picked cos he had the clear open face and "I am an innocent, good person" looks , so that no one would EVER guess he was bad. He has this youthful glow and all that. I hope he acts well!! wait, battle royale? then he should rock. L has that shady look, that strange twist to his mouth, so i think it's correctly-picked. Those AREN'T the publicity photos for the movie, right?? Cos the hair isn't right for either of them.

Thank you so much for the photos. Sigh, the heartache that is deathnote, when cute guys go to seed/hell/whatever.

I don't really know the actor for Light, but as for the one for L... I can't say I'm too happy. I really don't think he can act that well.. and he just doesn't fit the role. One drama taht I've ssen him in was One Litre of Tears, he was wasn't too main though.
