AboutDo you work in a job that forces you to deal with the general public, day in day out? Do you find yourself regularly biting back your tongue, wishing you could say something to that one particular charming customer, who just insulted you, complained to the manager because you followed company proceedure, or just ruined your day with his/her nasty attitude? Well then, you've found a home.
This is a place where you can address this customer and tell them exactly what you thought, and not have to worry about losing your job. Sure, chances are the idiot who the letter is written to will never see it, but maybe someone who does something similar will, and learn. And, even if that doesn't happen, you were able to get it off your chest and now you can return to your job the next day with renewed hope... until the next turkey comes along.
As with all good communities, sometimes a few rules can help. I'll try to keep them as brief as possible...
The Rules
1: No using "real names" Do not mention the place you work by name. Do not mention the person you are speaking about by their real name. Don't mention your real name either. Try to keep it as generic as possible as in, restaurant, department store, customer service department, techical support department. I am asking this as a favor to yourselves mostly. There are people who hunt around the net looking for folks to slander the companies they work for, then tell the companies "So and so is slamming you." I don't want to see anyone get in trouble. Yes, I know, we're primarily here to complain about customers, not the business itself, but since many places treat customers like the gift of the magi, even when they're total idiots, let's not risk it, okay?
2: Write your posts in letter format If this was just a place to go, "Today this woman came in and...." we'd be called Customers_suck and you know what? Someone has already done that. This is not just a place to rant, it is a place to direct your specific issues with a particular person/group of people that made your job a living hell. Try, when you're writing entries, to make it seem like you are actually writing a letter to this person, and that they will read it.
3: Be intelligent I shouldn't have to put this one here, but I will anyway. Try to use some dignity in what you write. This isn't a locked community, don't make yourself look like a bigger idiot than the one you're writing about by going, "Dere Fuktarde, U ruined my brake today bye cumming up 2 mee and going wear R the pickles. Who the fuk do U think U R? I worke harde 16 hours a day, I don't need sum dum bich dissin me when I'm tryin' 2 tak a brake!" This community is for you to address what's bothering you, and to give the intelligent (even if stinging) response that you would give this person if you weren't a wage slave and really needed the job.
4: Yes, you are allowed to write good things too Yes, usually if you have a good customer, you find a way to tell them, but sometimes circumstances prevent it. If you want to write a letter to the one really wonderful customer, the person who was patient and understanding, even when everyone else was not, please feel free to do that too.
5: Use the LJ Cut for long entries Just to be nice, okay? I don't want to see complaints about people writing huge letters and spamming other people's friends lists. If you think your post is going to take up more than one screen in length, use the LJ cut.
Okay, now, let's go on to people who want to "lurk" this commuity.
Remember.. this is a community for venting, ranting, and getting it out of the system. The ultimate goal is to help people who have to work with the general public, get it off their chest so hopefully, they can have a more positive attitude when they return to work. This is not a community of sunshine pumping happy yahoos. Don't expect it to be. If you watch this community, you will see things that might offend you. Don't automatically assume that just because we'd like to strangle one customer, it means we want to strangle all of them. Don't take it to mean we hate our jobs, or hate the people we have to work with. It just means that we have some idiots who drive us crazy.
If you have never worked in retail, you have no clue what it's like. Don't judge us just by what you read here. Even if we don't say it, many of us probably have customers we adore.
People who are not members of this community can respond to posts as long as they are registered users of Live Journal, for now. However, if you troll this community leaving nasty comments about how us people in retail are all stupid anyway, your ass will be banned very quickly. The same with anyone who joins the community thinking they can blast us out for having the nerve not to wuv and adore every customer that crosses our paths.
