The Deathwatch for People of Color
This community originally began with a focus on Principal Robin Wood. Given that he was an African American and has the Hellmouth in his office, we were convinced that Principal Wood was a man marked for Death (or some other unspeakable evil).
Then, with the implementation of court-ordered desegregation in Sunnydale and the resulting influx of people of color in the town, there was a change in mandate, witness for all people of color on Buffy.
Now that Buffy has ended, we're still keeping the candles burning for people of color in scifi, fantasy, and horror.
We await the inevitable in ![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif) deadbrowalking. TV, comic, graphic novel, film, and related gossip, episode commentary, opinions, and general commiseration about the fates of people of color in scifi, horror, and fantasy are welcome.
Please keep in mind that this is a place for progressive people of color and white allies to discuss issues of race and representation in scifi, horror, and fantasy. This is not a space dedicated to educating people on the existence of racism or concepts of cultural appropriation. (Here's one instead: http://allywork.solidaritydesign.net/suggested-reading/. This is not the place to invalidate the realities and experiences of people of color in fandom or out of it. Neither is it the place to come twitch and flail because you have suddenly decided that your right to eat sushi while watching full metal alchemist is under attack from hostile and ungrateful separatists who don't want the world to sing in perfect harmony whilst drinking a coke. It's also not the place to get cookies and hugs for having a black/asian/latino/middle eastern/indigenous friend when you grew up. Really. In the same vein, please dont try to join deadbro to prove that you aren't a racist. It'll hurt.
