Pirate Party at Dragoncon.
WE will need to warn the bands that the PA will not be what it used to be in the Regency ballroom for the pirate party.. If they have a big sound, then they will need to bring their own PA. We will have from 10-1130 to set up, and then the room till all the pirates pass out.

Captain Billbill.

So, if you are in a band that wants to play the Pirate Gathering, or know someone in a band who wants to play the Pirate Gathering, pass this info on. Plus, if you are in a band, or know someone in a band who wants to play, you/they must contact me. Right now, we have 2 bands who we want to play, but haven't heard back from DragonCon on either application, so if you're interested (or know someone interested), contact me.

I don't know if the Atlanta convention hotels are anything like convention areas in other cities, but sometimes you're limited to the equipment provided by certain vendors and must pay extra costs for equip rental and drayage and all of that rot. I highly doubt that there's any sort of that with Dragon*Con, but before anyone goes dragging in their own amps and such you might want to verify that detail. Plus, it's such a major hassle with parking and access at the con that your equipment benefactor would likely need some assistance with The Man, insofar as being able to load/unload said equipment. I might suggest that you approach the folks from the Atlanta Radio Theater Company, as they'll have equipment ON DECK for their stuff. They break it down between their shows and store it in their rooms. If you tap them to do a radio peformance of some variety in exchange for them being your audio techs it might be a good bit of you-rubba-my-back, I'll-a-rubba-yours~

Kind of off-track question here (may have been addressed in an earlier post?) but has there been any talk about the attendance snafu from 2007 and how *NOT* to repeat this?

Myself and many others were really bummed/disappointed that we were turned away from the party due to security, room restrictions, yadda, yadda, yadda. Was really looking forward to hitting the party last year as I was at the unofficial one in 2006 and had a really good time. :-)

Just my two-cents' worth. Your mileage may vary.

I think that DragonCon itself did us an enormous favor by booking a gigantic room for this party. I would imagine much of that is due to the snafu from last year's gathering. Fortunataly, it seems DragonCon is on our side (not that there are sides, per se) and unfortunately, there isn't much we (the pirates) can do without DragonCon's and Dcon Security's help. The issue last year wasn't with the numbers inside the room, but outside waiting to get in. I'm hoping to get with some Dcon security folk on the 12th to see how we can combat the issues of overcrowding in the hotel lobby due to the Party. Also, from what I hear, most everyone was orderly in line, there were just too many and they didn't know where to put them all. Bottom line is a huge room like we have will accomodate more people and I'm hoping to open the doors earlier than 11:30 so we can house the early arrivals.

Also, if any of YOU out there have suggestions, please let them spill out onto the floor so I can use them to hopefully get things on the up and up BEFORE DragonCon.

BTW, very sorry that you weren't able to get in last year. I really feel bad for those who fell behind. Especially since the room was no where near capacity inside.
