Characters: fictional versions of myself and various people from my rl, mentions of Power Girl, Wonder Woman, Superman, Supergirl, Mary Marvel, Black Canary, Zatanna, the Justice Society, Justice League and Teen Titans
Continuity/Timeline: generally post-COIE DC comics, timeline arbitrary, but sometime before Mary Marvel got evil
Disclaimers: Anything recognizable as an intellectual property of DC Comics is owned by that entity and the creators of the individual characters, afaIk. Title: The Quest For Power
Fandom: DCU
Characters: Me, Bart, Tim, Barbara, Dinah, Batman, Superman, Dick, Steph, Cass, Anita, Cissie, Kon. Mentions of Barbara/Dinah and Cassie/Kon. Bart/Tim hinted.
Prompt: 96. Writer's choice for [info]fanfic100 . 27. OMG we forgot__ for [info]wtf27 . Because I like to multi-task.
Word Count: 4,991
Rating: PG
Summary: I really, really want superpowers. And I go to superhero theme party.
Author's Notes: Written for [info]dcdailylife 's self-insert fic where the writer is not a Mary Sue contest. Beta'd by my wonderful beta, [info]julius12 . Takes place in my special, personal canon where Young Justice is around when all of the people are in high school and everyone is alive. And I exist. So extremely AU. This is a little late, I think, but better late than never, right?

I wanted to apologize for not reading and commenting on everybody's stories yet. I will catch up someday, I swear! Anyway, here are my efforts thus far:

Title: Party Crasher
Characters: Superman, myself, and various school chums.
Rating: PG-13 for language
Word Count: 537
Disclaimer: Superman belongs to DC Comics. I am making no money.

So what are you dressed as, a hooker?

Title: The Preterite: Prologue
Characters: Batman, the Scarecrow, myself, and various fictitious college students
Rating: R for language and violence
Word Count: 733
Disclaimer: Batman and the Scarecrow belong to DC Comics. I am making no money.

To be continued...

Disclaimer: I did not create these characters. I am making no money.

This is the *expanded* edition! Yay! Sparkly!

Exclusive interview with Bruce Wayne! Mr. Terrific's costume: hot or not? The five best (and worst!) dressed superheroes!

Yeah, he's a moron. But he has great hair.

If you read only one of these, make it the last one.

Fic: In the Eyes of an Observer (G, Humor, part 1/2, WIP) [Nov. 6th, 2007|09:02 pm]

TITLE: In the Eyes of an Observer
RATINGS/WARNINGS: G
SUMMARY: Archaeology is even *more* hazardous in the DC universe. Which is a scary thought, to be honest.
DISCLAIMER: Most of these characters belong to me. Except one. Which one should be obvious.
CONTINUITY: None whatsoever.
NOTES: I've wanted to write this story *forever*.

* * * * *

Well yeah, I was doing archaeology in Gotham, but it's not like I expected to meet Batman walking down the street or something. I mean, just because you live in Metropolis doesn't mean you hang out with Superman, right? )

Fic: Just a Kid (DCU - *ME*, Superman) 1/1 - R [Oct. 13th, 2007|10:56 pm]

saavikam77
Title: Just a Kid
Author: Saavikam
Fandom: Superman Returns
Characters: *ME* (oh, Gods...), Hector (a *fictional* student), Superman
Rating: R - for violence and language
Word Count: 2,685
Summary: Kids make mistakes, so do superheroes.
Warnings: This is not a happy, fluffy fic. This is a violent fic that deals with a painful topic: school shootings. I've never been personally affected by one, thank Gods, but living in Va, how could I not be affected by the ripples from the Virginia Tech shooting? One of the students killed there was a former student of the school I teach at. If you have had any kind of personal experience with a school shooting, I recommend you not read this. Please.
Disclaimer: DC and WB own it all. I own nothing.
Author's Note: This is my first fic written in present tense and from first person POV. I hope the stream of consciousness writing isn't too jarring. :/ I'm not teaching full time right now, but I have had my own biology classes in the past for a brief time. The abbreviation ESOL stands for "English as a Second Language". Also, I'm *not* posting this to my own LJ. It just feels too personal. This scenario has occurred to me several times over the last year or so, Superman included, and the very thought that a similar scenario *could* happen makes me very sad. Not sure what made me write this, but I just... felt compelled.

Ahem! Sorry for rambling. Here's the fic...

I Put Most of My Skill Points in Blather (And I Put the Rest in Knowledge (Booster Gold)) [Oct. 13th, 2007|01:02 pm]

boredom_doodles
Title: I Put Most of My Skill Points in Blather (And I Put the Rest in Knowledge (Booster Gold))
Characters: Yours Truly, Booster Gold
Rating: PG
Word Count: 1,018
Spoilers: Various events in 52, and one very small, convoluted, not actually spoilery reference to something in Booster Gold #3.
Warnings: Self-insertion?
Disclaimer: Don't own 'em.
A/N: Done for [info]dcdailylife. 100% fun, insubstantial, 1st-person blathering. Seems I'm rather good at that. I kind of had to fudge my own time line a bit to make it work, but, honestly, give it a year or two, and this will fit absolutely perfectly into canon. Huzzah for the sliding time line!

( I moved to Metropolis about mid-August of last year. )

This self insertion fic is set in

[info]jen_in_japan's Music of the Spheres universe. Although I can't get it to say that in my journal, I tried three times and it didn't want to work.

 Anyway.

Summary: A conversation between my sister and myself about Bruce Wayne and Batman.

Characters: Me, Jo, mentions of others.

Rating: It has swearing in it, thats about it.

Fic: "Things Wikipedia Didn't Tell Me About Canada" [Oct. 8th, 2007|09:46 pm]

Title: "Things Wikipedia Didn't Tell Me About Canada"
Rating: Uh... there's some swearing?
Characters: [info]randomredux, Kal-El and yours truly.
'Verse: None, really...

Okay, so I read the instructions on the label of this community very carefully before throwing out the box and reassembling the parts according to my own design (though it's been okayed by [info]jen_in_japan). The end result is something I know you've all written your own versions of at least once, even if it was only in your head; what would you do if one day your life was interrupted by fictional characters...?

in_excelsis_dea
Title: Breathe
Author: [info]in_excelsis_dea
Rating: PG-13. Swearing and some violence/abuse.
AN: This was hard for me to write, because I've basically taking different situations that actually happened in my life and have put them together, and then added on, with little embellishment. I'll probably do a more upbeat, happy "day in the life" later on, but I wanted to get this one out, because...I needed to. So, I present to you the times in my life I truly wished superheroes existed...

I'm going to die. )

Gothamites. [Oct. 6th, 2007|08:45 pm]

[Current Mood | worried]

Before you read this, there’s something I need to explain.

So. This community has been open for only a few weeks, and already it’s getting to be… can I call it touching?

My own entry turned out to be amongst the more humorous ones –I have no trauma or pain to speak of and for that I’m grateful. And… then I saw other entries. I know for a fact that most, though not necessarily all, of the fics here are going to be self inserts.

Somewhere out there a woman understands Barbara Gordon’s hell. Someone else misses a brother like Hank Hall. Watched their parents shot down. Someone else is stuck nightshift at McDonalds and has had more than a few customers she might well want to smack.

When we read an entry on this site, what we’re reading is a fictional story based on truth. We’re reading but a fraction of the writer’s real pain and past. Understanding it in a way we otherwise might not. And… in some ways it makes me understand how and why we relate to these fictional beings. What of our real lives we put into them.

I’m nota survivor. I’m nothing special, not even in the DCU where everyone, it seems, has a purpose and meaning. But I have watched these things happen and… I guess, even if on only the most simple, basic, unconnected level, I understand too, a little.

But only a little.

So… yes. This is technically a sequel to: Loglines, and it’s not intended to be nearly as humorous. Details under the cut, because there’s no room here.

I’m not a patriot. But I’ve met the queen. She’s kinda cool. )

Title: I Hate Cyborg
Fandom: DC Comics
Rating: G/PG

Ms. Edison's Day Out (Batman: TAS) 1/1 [Oct. 5th, 2007|12:05 am]

[Current Mood | embarrassed]

Title: Ms. Edison's Day Out
Fandom: Batman: The Animated Series
Disclaimer: Not mine, claim no credit.
Pairing/Characters: *squeaks* me. Dick Grayson. Batman.
Rating: PG
Word Count: 1731
Summary: I look at Batman, fully expecting to be arrested for child endangerment. "Really, I didn't mouth off at him. I might've sniped a bit, but I'm Canadian. Our idea of a supervillain is the Hamburglar."
Writer’s Note: This is not my fault! SERIOUSLY! This? This is [info]marag and [info]jen_in_japan's doing. And Mara encouraged me! This was ostensibly written for the self-insert (seriously) community [info]dcdailylife. Basically, you take you and your job and drop yourself into the DCverse. Anyone who knows me in RL? This would pretty much be my luck.
