I'm pleased to say that after almost 6 months of fucking around, I've finally managed to do a small update of The Human Condition. with any luck, I'll manage to do a few more throughout the summer, so keep an eye out. I still have a whole list of stuff I want to head-hunt.

I also still have designs on a meta site but my sister is uber-busy at the moment, so who knows. I also wonder if there's enough interest to make it worth it...I like the concept but buffyverse seems to have shrunken considerably in the last year, or at least gone quiet. penny for your thoughts if you have input for me on the subject (of the site, not fandom-shrink).

Three new fics up:

Outside Pride by cordelianne - Spike and Xander meet at a Christian summer camp named, of all things, Outside Pride.
Why this fic? well ok, beyond the scenario making me happy in my pants like the sick bastard I am, this fic is adorable. plus, cordelianne gives good Scooby banter.
Turn On the Bright Lights by cordelianne - Spike/Xander. It's like Xander's living Reality Bites but without Jeanne Garofalo to liven up the twenties angst. His best bet for a new roommate is to pull some random guy in off the street.
Why this fic? Xander's hapless and desperate, Spike's a shady badass with a heart of gold...what's not to love? quarter-life-crisis warm and fuzzy
Three Quid Whore by nasty shrew - Xander's known Spike three days when he quits his job as a courier to go on tour with the band.
Why this fic? Possibly my favorite bandfic ever. I'm a sucker for a train wreck in slow motion, and this is. a really really pretty one.

also, I added Bloodshedverse to our links in the got canon? section because...I have no idea how I left it out before. *facepalm*

Also, please be advised that at the author's request, Jan's fiction will no longer be hosted at The Human Condition. as far as I know it will still be available at jans_intentions, so you should update your bookmarks. I'll have a notification page up in its place for a little while, this is just a heads-up so you won't think the link is broken.

speaking of broken/misdirected links, I found a few that needed fixing the other day. if you notice any more, don't hesitate to shoot us an email at touch.dbw@gmail.com. towards the end of coding for the site launch, I got a little loopy. who knows what else I haven't noticed yet.

so, I've gotten a few questions about the future content of the site, so I thought I'd make an actual post and answer some questions, haha.

Pairings that'll be included in the initial launch (number of stories for that pairing).

Angel/Spike (20), Spike/Xander (13), Spike/Buffy (7)

Angel pairings: Angel/Xander (4), Angel/Dawn (1), Angel/Faith (1), Angel/Wes (1)

Spike pairings: Spike/Faith (1), Spike/Lindsey (1)

Other: Lindsey/Fred (1), Mystery pairing (1), Various/multiple pairings (4)

we have 25 authors at this point, upwards of 50 fics.

This is just the initial push. the idea was to code as many fics as I could stand for the initial launch, and then add more later. most of the spangel stories are already going to be up, because obviously that pairing was a priority for me, personally. I've also snagged most of the stuff by people meretrix and I knew already, but not all.

I did some cold-calling of authors I don't know well, but it's a very uncomfortable feeling, when I have nothing to show for the quality of the site. people have been really nice, but I dislike cold-calling like that. so the second wave will mostly be folks I don't know, and some fics that have been on my list to read for a while, but I haven't gotten around to reading yet. the second-wave list includes some real classics.

I'm really proud of all of the fics we've chosen to include so far. (as a sidenote, I'm particularly proud of our spuffy selection. I'm stoked I found 7 for the initial push that ring my hard-to-ring bell). what are our criteria?

completed fics only (er, with a couple outstanding exceptions...in which case we only include the chapters that take us to a good stopping-point)
a good grasp of the English language, obviously. having a beta-reader helps, but isn’t really necessary
engaging, original, well-applied storylines
characterization that applies canon believably to an all-human world; we view “in-character” fairly flexibly, and a broad range of interpretations can be valid, but it’s important that the characters are recognizable
we’re prone to dark / angsty / sick & twisted, but sweetness and fluff can be good too. but it has to be believable fluff, if that makes any sense.
some fic exists for plot. some exists to be shippy. some exists as living meta. some…some fics just exist for kink. we take em all.
fics featuring prolonged, prominent, ooc character-bashing are avoided as much as possible. there’s a difference between using canon traits to cast someone as the villain and distorting a character beyond recognition simply because you don’t like them. we respect all the Buffyverse characters here.
archives are often political. this archive exists for the love of the genre. this means that although it’s dictated by our preferences, the identity of the writer has no bearing on the inclusion of a fic. just because we love someone personally doesn't guarantee inclusion; dislike of an individual won't prevent us from including fic that's up to our standards.
