So, another week has passed. A lot has happened, Tohoshinki ánd Dong Bang Shin Ki were very busy. Tohoshinki got 4th on the Weekly Album Charts, selling 52.000 copies surpassing Five in the Black and also ended up on the 30th place on the Monthly Album Charts. That's quite good, right? They released their album in the last week of January, so yeah. Purple Line got 4th on the Monthly Single Charts, which is a good place too, selling 44.000 copies in total.

Dong Bang Shin Ki, top idol band from Korea, belongs to the famous SM Entertainment which houses the like of BoA, KangTa, Super Junior and more. Previous fames include Fly to the Sky, Shinhwa, S.E.S and also many more. As a tradition since the early years SM TOWN comes out with yearly (or bi-yearly) compliation albums to celebrate either Summer or Winter. Dong Bang Shin Ki joined in 2004 and since have featured on all those albums.

YesAsia Review: (for HUG Korean Version): Dong Bang Shin Ki, a new Korean quintet from the SM Entertainment, are ready to give you a big hug on their first release "Dong Bang Shin Ki Single ? Hug". All in their black jackets, these five teen idols are determined to spread their endless love to all girls with love ballads. The leading track "HUG" features the solos of each of the five members. The most impressive vocal goes to Hero because of his distinctly strong voice. Another member standing out is Micky, the band's Mr. Sentimental. "HUG", because of its repetitive melody, may not be as appealing as the next main track "My Little Princess".
Apart from the sure-thing ballad, Dong Bang Shin Ki impresses us on their debut release with two other bold attempts. "Oh Holy Night" is an acappella remake featuring BoA in the latter part. Their collaboration, however, is not really able to surprise since singing void of instrumental accompaniment is not this Korean diva's forte. It is not much of a wise idea to present "My Little Princess" in the acappella way either. The whole pace of the song is unfortunately slowed down. But still these five young men want to prove that they are no ordinary boy band by overlapping each other's vocals. This is one risky but successful move to demonstrate their vocal skill and smooth cooperation.

Ok, well firstly I would like to welcome our new mod; jaejin. I'm sure alot of you will know her from the fandom. She will be here helping out with weekly archiving. And as well as that I would also like to welcome one of our afflilates; smsummary. This is a collective archive comm for SM Entertainment. Which means all SM artists, so now you can keep track of not only Dong Bang Shin Ki but BoA, Super Junior and much more.

Titled Choosey Lover, the song comes as the perfect warm-up for all loyal fans waiting for TVXQ's upcoming live tour.
About the Remix Single: Another release from fanmixing team, Kumi-X. Personally, this is my least favourite song from their Japanese discography but it is the most remixable song out there. The sounds are very heavy beats and a techno sounding, very unique but not my favourite.

As you can tell, at a very slow pace, the discography is coming togehter. Right now I'm just pasting those other/misc collections before I get onto posting the full albums and singles because I want to include mirror links for all of them. I'm not a big fan of Chipmunk remixes but I have them anyways. They seem cute and giggly at first but once you listen to them one after the other you brain wants to explode. + First Day Debut on Oricon at #1 and they are over the 10000 sales, the only single today. I'm quite surprised the others are quite behind. Yuna Ito x Celine Dion's single is not doing as good as I thought, same with GReeeeN. Acid Black Cherry's track is great competition though, a very nice track. Carry on supporting them!

Firstly thank you for the support, and I checked we have 800 members which is overwhelming. Technology bugs are really funny. We couldn't change anything in the comm yet people could still join and comment. I think it was a bug that only effected the maintain controls. Like previously said I have copies of the "Introduction to Dong Bang Shin Ki" on my HD and with an update and clean-up I will post that up soon. fearless_123 will be in charge of sorting the Media List.
I went back to the beginning of this month and thought I might as well start archiving from the New Year, just to keep things neat.

I guess this post will just turn into a short FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page and basically the contact page if anyone needs to find us etc. Also if you want us to advertise your comm or become affiliates, this would also be the post. And because I'm lazy I'm just going to copy, paste and update the profile to here.

origins and history of the comm

This started off in early 2007 as a collective archive for the latest happenings of Dong Bang Shin Ki. We decided to open up this comm in hopes to make tracing back on dong bang events easier. The Dong Bang Shin Ki world moves so fast that sometimes you have to track back over 50 pages (half of which is useless) just to see what they've missed out on.
That was until a techincal hic-cup.
Well basically for those who don't have a clue what happened, one day we wanted to post/edit/manage stuff on the comm but whatever we did it kept making no changes. We would write out a whole post and post it but nothing would be posted. We would change the links but the links were still the same. We contacted eljay people and basically whatever methods they told us, they didn't work.
We emailed them back again, and until a little more persistance yesterday, they finally replied us. There was some kinda of bug and basically everything had to be deleted for the comm to be able to start again.
Which is where we are now. Re-opening for a new year, we have to re-post everything from the beginning. So those huge posts we had before with over 400 comments have disappeared. Although the comments were deleted we have seen the love you members have for the boys and we are happy to know many new dong bang fans found it useful.

how it all works

Every week, normally a Sunday or Monday, we will start a new post and update it with all things happening that week, new releases, previews, shows, downloads etc. As of now, with only two mods, we will normally take it in turns to post every other week. This will be the format until further notice. For the majority of posts you will have to be a member of the dbsg comm or alike forums and for music and video downloads you may need to be a friend of that comm as well. Occasionally, and when there are new releases, we will also upload these to this comm. The first few days will be public but shortly after it will be locked. As of now your three mods are:

dong bang shin ki

Or whatever you like to call them. They are a five-member male chorus group formed in Korea by SM Entertainment. The group has gained popularity in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China, Thailand and other East Asian countries. Currently, it is one of the top pop groups of the Korean Wave (hallyu). In Korea, due to differences in romanization of the Hangul by fans, they are often seen as Dong Bang Shin Ki or Dong Bang Shin Gi and are currently under SM Entertainment. In Japan, they have officially debuted as Tohoshinki and under Avex Rhythm Zone. And for the rest of thw world, depending on which romanization is used, they are abbreviated as TVXQ, TVfXQ, DBSK, DBSG, or THSK.
It is composed of five members specializing in the areas of dance, acappella, acting, and pop with an R&B vibe. Members include U-Know Yunho (leader), Yoongwoong Jaejoong, Xiah Junsu, Micky Yoochun and Max Changmin.
Before the bug incident we had a post, especially written by the magnificent candyillusions as an introduction to Dong Bang Shin Ki. Shortly it will be back up, and we'll link to it.

techincal help

Extracting Files using WINRAR (for .rar and .zip files)
Most of the music files here are in zipped or rar format. To listen to the mp3's you firstly have to extract the files. I'm sure everyone knows how to work with zipped files so no problems there. To extract rar file you need to download and install WinRAR first. Once you done that, just open the rar file and click the extract button.
People must ask why don't everyone just use normal zipped files, well my answer is that WinRAR supports Unicode filenames so I don't have to rename everything in English. For MAC users the equivalent to WinRAR would be "Stuffit Expander".

Joining Files using HJSPLIT (for .001 .002 .003 files)
Some files here are split into two or more parts so that it can be easily uploaded. There are mainly two ways. One is using WinRAR. Just download the parts and open to extract the first part. It will automatically find the next parts to extract (just make sure you don't change the filename). The other way is using HJSplit. Download and install HJSplit and then its pretty easy to use.
1. Click "Join"
2. Click the "Input File" button and choose the .001 file (which is the first file)
3. Click "Start"
Theres no need to do anything else because the consequent parts are detected automatically.

Whats the difference between RAW, Soft Subs or HardSubs?
Don't know the diiference? First, RAW files have NO subtitles what so ever. Hard subs are when the subtitles are part of the video and there is no way to modify or remove them.
Soft subs are a separate file which will be played at the same time as the video. This saves time as most people noramlly have the video files and subs come out later, so they don't have to re-download.
Most of the time, dramas normally have the Chinese subs but for those whose don't understand there are many FanSubbing groups that subs for different languages, mainly in English.

Fansubbing
Subtitles are produced by fan subbers (unless its the DVD Rip) and just like everyone else, they have normal lives so the rate in which subs are released can not be predicted. Do not request for subs, they will be posted as they become avaliable and when I have permission from the subbing the teams to redistribute. I will upload subs as they come out of at least direct to where you will be able to get them. Appriciate what they are doing. The main teams for Dong Bang Shin Ki fansubbing is Gods of the East and DBSJ Productions

How To View Soft Subs?
The first step is to download and install Direct VobSub. After the installation you generally don't need to worry about it ever again as its a DirectX filter which runs automatically when it detects an available subtitle.
When the video file and the subs file have been downloaded make sure they are in the same folder and then when you play the video file the player should automatically detect the subs. However make sure the name of the video file and subs file are EXACT.

Video/Audio Problems and Codecs
A codec is just a small "program" that helps code/decode/decipher the video that you are trying to play. Nowadays, codecs are needed to play almost any kind of video on your computer. There is also a very popular, freeware program that helps determine which codec you will need to play a certain video. Download and install GSpot. Right-click the video file, and "open-with" gspot. What codec is listed for the video? For the audio? (For further troubleshooting, enable "interactions with codecs" in the settings, and try to "render" the loaded video.) Most codecs are freeware, and you can either google for them, or go to this site: Free Codecs. The more popular codecs are: FFDShow, divX, Xvid, and Real Alternative. But do NOT try to install them ALL. Some codecs do not work well with other codecs. Some will need to be uninstalled before you can install the next one, etc. You may need to do some reading to determine compatibility. (Credits to D-Addicts)
