Odd request: Eyeglass Screwdriver?
Does anyone have an eyeglass screwdriver? You know one of those tiny little things to tighten up the frame on glasses?

I went to put on my prescription sunglasses on the other day, and one of the lenses fell out. It still has the tiny screw there in place, but it looks like its a bit loose. I was able to put the lens back in place, but it is just a matter of time before it falls back out again.

If you have one, and I could borrow it for like 2 minutes, that would be awesome! I can meet you anytime in the Square or else at Joe Sent Me on Thursday if you are going to be at the meet-up.

Edit: Since I don't want to leave you all in suspense, CVS, $1.99 ($2.09 with tax).

Any Good Optometrists? Glasses?
Hey Everyone,
I used to have a different account but, alas, I lost it through a complicated series of unfortunate events.

Anyway - I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a good optometrist in the area for a check up and a new pair of specs. I've read a few articles lately that Lenscrafters have been rated poorly with the quality of their glasses. So I'm trying to avoid them, any thoughts on the issue?

Thanks!
- Mike

optician/eye doctor? (and/or tag search help)
I know the topic of eye doctors has come up and I tried doing various searches but the LJ UI is a little unintuitive...

so. can anyone reccommend a good eye doctor for getting an exam/prescription - or help me figure out how to search for the past discussions?

tx!

Specs on the cheap
A friend of mine is looking for an optometrist with a good selection of reasonably-priced (i.e. inexpensive) frames. Anyone have any recommendations? Davis would be ideal, but can be anywhere T-accessible.

Anyone had good/bad experience with Saragas Eye & Laser Center?
Anyone had good/bad experience with Saragas Eye & Laser Center (on Highland)?

I started going there because it was close by. They have been having me come in for 2 appointments every 6 months. I don't have anything especially wrong with my eyes (needed reading glasses). When I have asked why 2 appointments - can't I do both tests in one visit, I have gotten huffy treatment, like I was being a creep or something. I was in there today for an eye exam and then the first of these two tests - and they had me sit at the machine and told me they were only going to do one eye - that I had to come back for another appt to do the other eye. Huh? That's a new wrinkle. When I asked, I again got the huffy treatment but someone mentioned something about what insurance would cover (and made some crack about me being paranoid). Well... my co-pay is $35. x 2 visits so I'd uh...kinda like to do both eyes at the same time...since I am sitting in the chair and we always did both eyes before.

Does any of this sound like standard operating procedure? They also got kind of huffy when I didn't want to buy their designer frames for my reading glasses. Sorry if this is or sounds like a rant - and I don't want to malign the place but it seems kind of weird.

area opthalmologists
I need to go see an opthalmologist, and I've never been to one in the area (or at all for that matter :). I'm picking primarily on geography at this point, so I'm wondering if anyone has ever seen any of the following doctors:

Sheldon Buzney
John Weiter
Susan Wong
Savvas Saragas

If you have someone else that you see in the area that you're very satisfied with, I'd still love recommendations. I'd really prefer to see someone in either Cambridge, Somerville, or Arlington. Something close to Mass Ave. is best, but the office must be T/bus accessible. Thanks!

Optometrist
So last year I asked the same question here and was referred to Dr. Scott Sylvia on Mass Ave. He was good - professional, courteous, prompt, pricing was I guess fair (it had been a couple of years before that since my previous visit to an optometrist). But something just wasn't quite right, and I wasn't sure what it was...until I visited Dr. Casey Cook for my teeth. Dr. Cook rocks. So here is my question - is there someone as awesome as Dr. Cook who can check out my eyes, near the Davis Square area? I'm due for an annual exam and my contacts are running low.
Please and thank you!

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good (inexpensive) optometrist in the area? I need a contact lens exam which runs about $120 at LensCrafters. If I could find a place that's cheaper, and less mercenary about their appointments, I'd be very happy.

need optometrist
i get 1 eye exam a year paid by my insurance, and i really need a new prescription for my contacts.
last year i went to a dim place on highland ave. in somerville, the guy barely listened to me, examined me and then told me that i was wrong and i didn't need a new prescription.
now i really need one.

anyone have recs for a trustworthy opthamologist/eye doctor/eye place that will listen to me and be thorough?

near Davis/Porter/Harvard preferred.

Thanks.

glasses
This weekend, I would like to purchase me some glasses. As a contact lens wearer for most of my adult life, I haven't a clue where would be a good place. I'm more interested in getting something nice rather than cheap, but cheap is always a welcome. I'd prefer something near the Red Line. I already have a prescription.

Many thanks

Optometry
Looking for a good eye doctor around Davis so I can get a current prescription for my contact-lensed eyes. Last year I went to Eye Q Optical in Harvard Square, and although they were super nice, they specialize in glasses and kept trying to sell me a pair. Also, the doctor I saw pushed a new brand of contacts on me instead of the brand I knew fitted me well, and so for the last year I've not really felt comfortable in my lenses.

So I really would like to have a good eye doctor who will listen to me if I say "hm. these aren't so comfortable." Any suggestions?

Thanks everybody!!
(ps.if anybody knows whether a place takes Harvard Pilgrim insurance, it'd be fabulous. Thank you!)

Eye Doctor Recommendation
Anyone have a recommendation for a good eye doctor in the area? I need to get the full perscription workup, and my eyes are a little wonky so I'd prefer not to just wander into some "glasses store with attached eye doctor" without knowledge that they're pretty good, but I'd also prefer not to have to schlep down to Weymouth any more for an eye doctor who is fine but not wonderful.

Getting rid of glasses
Is there anywhere in Davis Square that I can donate old eyeglasses, so they can be recycled and reused for folks who need them? I've been carrying these things around with me for years. Alternatively, where's the closest Lenscrafters or place like that? Thanks.
