dentist
Hi. I'm new to Davis and need a dentist. I need quite a bit of work done, the problem is I am terrified of the dentist (the fear has kept me from seeing one for far to long, hence the lots of work needed). I heard of sedation dentistry and was wondering if anyone could recommend o dentist who uses this technique? Thanks!

second-best dentist in Davis Square area?
I've read through the memories and put myself on Dr. Cook's waiting list, but since I really probably should see a dentist something before 2010...does anyone have recommendations for the second-most-awesome dentist in the area?

This is just a very positive review I wanted to post up. I got the recommendation from this community to see Dr. Cook for a dentist. I called last May to get in and it took me till recent months to finally get in. On Monday which was a holiday I developed a severe infection in my wisdom tooth that has been fully grown in for years now. I ended up at the ER crying because the pain was so bad at 3am. I called the emergency line for Dr. Cook at 745am and he had me come right down. When I arrived he felt terrible for me and in fact told me had I called the previous day (presidents day and they were closed) he would have come in to help me. I NEVER expected a dentist to tell me that. He also didnt charge me for the visit only a $25 x-ray because I dont have dental insurance.

I just wanted people to know he is worth the wait. He is honestly the nicest dentist Ive ever met and he does great work.

Dentist
I'm trying to find a dentist - preferably in the Somerville/Cambridge area, but I have a car and am more than willing to drive.

My requirements:
1) Must be a good dentist. My teeth are TERRIBLE. I've had 3 root canals (I'm only 26!!) and expect to need another shortly. I've recently had one of my crowns break, so I need to get that fixed. I probably have cavities that need to be filled, but I don't even consider that a big deal anymore. In other words, if you're lucky enough to have never had a cavity, a glowing testimonial about how nice and pain-free your dental experience is probably won't mean much to me ;P
2) I need to be able to make an appointment before the end of the year, for insurance reasons.
3) My dental insurance sucks, so I'll probably have to pay for most of this myself. Cheap, or at least not overpriced, dentists preferred.
4) Good chairside manner would be a plus.

I've heard good things about Dr Cook but I think I need a dentist who has better availability (due to the huge amounts of dental work I tend to need.)

Thanks!

A review:

Lang Dentists in Ball Square

Very easy to get an appointment. Everything is bright, shiny and clean. The people were extremely nice and friendly. The dentist was very nice. And they did a very good, through cleaning. I haven't been in for anything else yet, but nothing seems to point in the direction that they would not be good for further work..

They also are fluent in Spanish and I believe Chinese. Be prepared that they will be talking not in English to each other, but speaking to me their English was flawless.

One downside, the examination room is split up with cubicles not walls, but this did not seem to be a problem and in fact allowed for a greater efficiency as they were able to prep some people while others were getting cleanings done.

Quite impressed. (yes, I was the one posting skepticism a few days ago about this place)

Lang's Dentistry in Ball Square?
So I just made an appointment at Lang's Dentist in Ball Square (And yes, I looked in the tags first and saw nothing on them..) and now I'm a little worried because they were able to get me an appointment this Friday... Which seems a bit suspicious, does anyone know anything about this place?

Hello Davis Square!

I have a kind of dental emergency (boo) and would really like to see a dentist, however I do not have any sort of dental coverage. Is there any particular dentist in the area that is better to go to for the uninsured?

Or just any dentist suggestions in general?

I understand this may come as a great cost to me, and I accept that. I am just looking to see what my options may be.

I have posted in the past regarding dental offices and for some reason when I search the community it isnt bringing up that post which I got a bunch of good replies to. So im starting fresh.

I had a horrid experience at Gentle Dental last year and refuse to go back. I need a dental office (I see a lot of past posts recommending Dr. Cook at Davis Square Dental) that does great basic dental work but also does invisalign work ideally. A one stop office would be great but I know for the most part dental offices and orthodontist offices are seperate. So my question is do you know any offices that are wonderful that do both services OR can you recommend an ortho office near Davis and Ill just wait for an appt with Dr. Cook.

Thank you so much!

Dentist and Renters
Good Morning Everyone,

I am in the market for a dentist in Davis Square. I have noticed there are so many dentist offices in and around Davis Square I cannot possibly choose. Anyone have any recommendations?

Also, something I have been meaning to do for a while (but feel myself suddenly pushed given the rash of break-ins in the area) is Renters Insurance. Any recommendations on that front?

Thanks,

Good oral surgeon?
I'm looking for a good oral surgeon to remove my wisdom teeth. Since this is, by all accounts, a potentially nasty experience, I'd like to find someone who is both a good surgeon and has a nice bedchairside manner. Sadly, Dr Cook does not remove wisdom teeth. :(

Any recs?

ETA: After all the resounding praise, I made an appointment for Friday at the place on Mass Ave - now I remember Dr Cook recommending them. Will let you all know how it went!

a slightly different dentist post
I've gone through all of the posts about local dentists through the community tags, but I have a slightly more specific question: where might I find a reliable and reasonably priced dentist in the area? I have no dental insurance and very, very limited funds for health-related bills. I'm afraid I'll need several fillings, so I'm looking at a high bill wherever I go, but with that in mind I'd like to keep it as low as humanly possible. I've already been scared off of Gentle Dental and all of its permutations, and I do know about the Tufts dental school (already had two root canals done there). Any suggestions for local dentists who don't charge an arm and a leg for a tooth or two? Or any who might give a discount to local students?

Dentist?
Hi there - Can anyone recommend a dentist in the area? I am a relatively new resident, and have been trekking back to Brighton every 6 months to my old dentist. I really need someone closer by. Can you help?
Thanks!

Dentists
Hi All, I chipped a tooth and I am looking for someone to repair it. I'm kinda nervous about it since I've already had it "fixed" once -- needless to say my front teeth aren't even anymore! (They just ground it down and didn't put sealant on it I guess).

I saw reviews on another site for Dr. Carpe and Dr. Mark Beal -- anyone have experience with them? Or is there anyone else you'd recommend to check out or stay away from. I'm willing to go pretty much anywhere that is T accessible.

Edit: I know Dr. Cook at Davis Square Dental is amazing (well so I've been told) but sadly on my insurance (Guardian) he's out of network and it would run me $150-200. Very Sad!

Yet another post about dentists
New job, new insurance, etc etc... Aetna PPO does not appear to give me a lot of choice -- none of the people who've been recommended in this community before appear to be part of their network. So, this is probably a long shot, but does anyone know anything about ANY of these dentists? Good experiences, or bad ones...? I pulled them pretty randomly off the Preferred Provider network of people close to 02144. (And no, they won't let me go to Dr. Casey Cook, despite the fact that he wins these please-recommend-a-dentist questions every single time!!!)

Dentist?
This year I get dental insurance. It's the first year since undergrad I'll have had it. Whee. But I have to choose a primary dentist. Anyone have one around here (preferably biking distance from me) that they like? I'll check if they're on my insurance.

kool smiles flyers
Did anyone else find a "Kool Smiles" flyer literally STUCK to their windshield today? I just came home to find it under my wiper and when I went to pull it out from there, part of it remained stuck to my windshield. I would guess from some kind of adhesive, and frankly I find that really obnoxious!

I actually called their number and they nicely transferred me to a complaint line where I left a message about this and the area (Davis Square, Holland St). I'd recommend anyone else as annoyed by this as I am do the same. The main number is 617-427-5665 (in case it was mangled in trying to peel off the flyer!) - the woman I spoke to there also told me they aren't supposed to be sticking these under car wipers but handing them to people directly.

i don't need anything special, just a good dentist who can actually see me (my old one seemed to lose my appointments regularly and sent me away!)

This morning I found a site that allows users to post reviews of various dentists in the area. Since we get so many posts for dentist recommendations, I thought it would be good to tag this in the future for reference.

dentists in the squares
ok, i just had my initial visit at Gentle Dental in Porter Square, and was told i need a root canal. since this will apparently cost me $2000+, i think i'd like to make sure i need it and get a 2nd opinion. any recommendations for dentists in the cambridge area? i don't have dental insurance, so a cheap 1st visit is what i'm hoping for, but a reputable, honest, kind dentist too.

Dentist
Hi friends!

Happy holidays! I hope all is well. Since you were all so helpful about my last inquiry, I am hoping you can help me with this one. I am in dire need of a good dentist in the immediate Davis/Somerville area. I haven't been insured or to a dentist in nearly six years and I have teeth in need of what I know will be major work. I had an extremely negative experience with my last dentist, so I have a bit of a phobia. I am looking for someone gentle and friendly to help get my teeth in shape. All recommendations are welcome!

Peace-

Heidi

Supposing a person were terrified of dentists, and very timidly just
wanted to have clean teeth...

Can anyone recommend a very gentle reassuring dentist in the
area?

There must be somebody who specializes in dentist phobia.

Dentist
I just had the best experience with a dentist here in Somerville. It was the Kappa Dental Group, 402 Washington St. kinda near Union Square. I called up in pain and they took me in immediately. I went in there, and the receptionist realised that my insurance had run out. I wasn't 100% surprised, but I explained that it was unfortunate because I didn't have money for anything else, and thanked her for her time.

She, however, told me that I should be able to get the dentist to look at me anyway, and/or work something out. Not only did the dentist look at me, but he even gave me an ex-ray and told me about what the problem was and I didn't have to worry. I'm not saying everyone should waltz in there expecting free shit, but they really went out of their way to try to help me when I was in a bind.

The dentist I saw, Ghassan Khoury, was gentle and didn't try to sell me anything like most other dentists I've been to. He's also youngish and very good looking (which was another plus!). Anyway, I never in a million years would have expected such great service. It has sorta warmed this cynic's heart. Awww.

Hello --

So I was walking down College Ave today and saw about 10-15 different dentist offices. It got me thinking that I need one and was wondering if anyone could recommend a dentist in the area? It doesn't necessarily have to be close, teeth are important, I'll travel, but there seem to be unusual amounts of dentists between davis and powderhouse and maybe one of them would be right?

Thanks

Dentists?
I now have a doctor at Harvard Vanguard. I know they have some dentists working in their location... and there's also Casey Cook's practice across the street. People I've talked to see to go to one of the other. Thoughts? Comments?

Dentist in Davis Square Area?
Can anyone recommend a good dentist in the Davis Square area? I am also willing to go anywhere in Somerville, Arlington, and Cambridge.

I have been going to Gentle Dental but they do not accept my new insurance and I would like to find a regular dentist.

Bonus points if you know that the dentist accepts Harvard Pilgrim insurance.

Thanks!

Edit: Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

oral surgeon?
I'm in emergency-type-situation need of a good, gentle oral surgeon in the Somerville Area... any recommendations? He or she must cater to (or at least be tolerant of) complete and total wusses.
