Thanks!

See you there!!
Okay, it's not necessarily *good* poetry. But for our new housemate Benn (aka
It got kinda long, so we had to cut out some (like the MFA, and the Museum of Science). But here's what we gave him. Most of them are within walking distance of the house. The first clue led to the location of the next, etc. Can you figure it out? (Some are context-based and easier to figure out if you know where the previous location is.)
(Google is helpful in many cases.)
ONE:
Travel around town.
Follow the clues to each place.
Give them but your name.
Here is your first clue:
In the Porter shopping read
Nearly nearest books.
( That one was easy. Continued, with some more difficult ones ... )
So we're having our yard sale from 10-2 during ArtBeat. We're a short 5ish minute walk from Davis, so please stop by if you're out and about! Since I don't know how to cut and I'm too lazy to research it right now, Ill just link you to the craigslist posting for more information. Happy hunting!

I could be totally wrong, but I'm assuming she was lost because she seemed awfully little to be roaming around the block.
The Somerville Arts Council's annual ArtBeat festival takes place tomorrow evening in Seven Hills Park and Saturday all over Davis Square. This year's theme is "Green".
For more information, including complete schedules in a variety of formats, visit the ArtBeat '08 website.
I'll be staffing the T-shirt table tomorrow night next to the Seven Hills Park stage, from 7:30 pm onwards. Stop by and say hello!
And if you attend any part of ArtBeat, please buy a dogtag for $3. That helps fund this and future Somerville Arts Council festivals.
The boarded-up Soleil Cafe in Teele has some new signs up - there is new ownership of the Cafe and one of the co-owners was the pastry chef at the Modern in the North End.
They were doing some work inside so I stopped in and said hello. I met the pastry chef guy and he was very nice - they will have cannolis and cakes and Southern Italian sandwich-y stuff. Most importantly, he said they'll be staying open til 10 PM! (The original Soleil had really weird hours) He said they're keep the Soliel Cafe name, and they'll try to re-open within 2-3 weeks.
So, yay! He asked me to get the word out so here you go.
I'm writing from our new store in Ball Square. It's called Twinkle Star.
There are basically no "children's stores" in Somerville. Most parents are forced to buy at Target / Kohls etc.
We carry clothes from Infant to size 5. We also have activities 3-4 days per week free of charge in the playroom dedicated to kids fun in the back of the store. The July schedule is posted on our website www.shoptwinklestar.com.
The focus of Twinkle Star is community, quality and value. Please come visit the store and wish us luck.
Thank You!
a friend and i would like to go berry picking saturday morning so we might make some fresh berry pies in the evening. does anyone have any recommendations for farms close by to somerville that offer pick-your-own berries?
the only places i know of that have this kind of thing are in the lowell/chelmsford/dracut area and i'm hoping we won't have to drive nearly that far.
any help would be lovely ♥
thanks (and see you at artbeat)!
I'm moving out of state at the end of this month and am selling all my furniture. I have a full size bed, desk, dresser, armchair, nightstand,

Does anyone know of anywhere in the area I can buy bugs for cooking? I know that I can eat some delicious cricket appetizers at the Mexican restaurant in Powder House square, but they are very expensive.
Thanks!
20 gallon tank or terrarium.
Also, the TV with VHS and DVD players is still available.
Not quite Davis, but it's within a half-hour drive and I can possibly deliver (contact for details).
I've been working on putting myself out there as a furniture builder. One thing I keep hearing in here is that there's a sustained need for GOOD bookshelves/ bookcases.
You guys are my current target market... I'm trying to stay local for now. I know there are a lot of academics and bibliophiles in the area, so I wanted to put this in the Davis board to see what you all had for ideas and requests.
So far, I have the following things that I think should be incorporated somehow.
-Solid wood, no plywood, particle board, or MDF. It costs a little more, but it's more durable, looks nicer, and the shelves are much stronger, meaning less sag over time.
-No drywall screws. I know that the unfinished furniture shops have plenty of quickly bolted together shelves from who knows where. I'm going for something a little nicer than what I used to have in my college bedroom.
-Modular. I've seen plenty of tall bookcases, and my one gripe is that they really don't move very well. I think that most of my friends move at least every few years, and I'd like to put out something out that is readily movable, and will work with all the old spiral staircases we have to deal with around here.
-Some fixed, some adjustable shelves. I know adjustability is always a desired feature, but a few fixed shelves in there will help make for a much sturdier, durable bookcase.
-I've been bouncing around the idea of a separate pedestal base, with adjustable casters/feet, and a built in level...because who in here actually has level floors? This way the base can be put in and leveled out, before putting up a huge heavy pile of books.
Pricewise, I've been told that the primary choices right now are either $60 target garbage, or super high end $2500-ish custom stuff. I don't think that I'll be anywhere near the $60 mark. I need to make a living. But I think it's possible to build solid, lasting bookcases for less than $500.
So, ignoring pricing for the moment, what are you all looking for in a bookcase/ bookshelves?
Meetup is tomorrow (Thursday) the 17th starting at 7pm at PJ Ryans in Teele Square (on Holland). I hope you can make it. I'll try to get there early to hold a couple of the back tables. We will have more info about the extremely cool community yard sale for charity taking place later this month.

10,000 BTUs can easily cool off a large 500+ SQ FT room. The unit is a little noisy but not too bad. It takes 2 people to safely move / install it. I have the original manual.
If you want it please send email directly to the address on my profile.
My husband and I are weighing an offer from his company to relocate to France for 2-3 years. We would need to retain an accountant to assist us with all of the tax filings & issues related to this move, preferably someone who specializes in or has experience with international or (ideally) French taxes. I see one other post on this topic in the archives but it is specifically related to UK income. I will inquire with the firm recommended there, Donahue & Associates. If anyone has any other recommendations I would be grateful, I'm overwhelmed by the results of a Google search. Thanks.
I'm looking for a used car. I recently got burned with a bad one from an individual, so I was wondering if there were local dealerships known to be reliable and honest.
I'm looking for a reliable car, maybe 8-12 years old. Nothing flashy, I just need some life left in it, and stick or automatic are both fine. My budget is really low, though, which is the biggest obstacle. I know dealerships often take in trades that are sale-able at decent prices, but I don't know where to start.
Any suggestions?
If anybody here has a car for sale that fits these requirements, we should still talk; send me a message.

Anyone here speak Portuguese? I have a Brazilian couple who come in every other week to do some house cleaning. They are very nice but their command of English is slight (and frankly gets slighter when I try to explain some of the house things I want them to attend to). I've tried the online translation tools but this couple just seem to draw a blank when I show them the translation and I have no idea how garbled it is. I'd like to keep using their service but the language thing is getting frustrating.
Can anyone translate a paragraph or two?

I witnessed an almost-accident at close range as the dog ambled from one side of the path to another, forcing a bicyclist to slam on his brakes and stop hard to avoid hitting him.
He doesn't know any better, he's just a dog, doing what dogs do. You, on the other hand, should.

Hi all,
We're having a farewell party tomorrow night (Monday, that is) from 6-8pm.
I can relay details in person if you're interested at that time. Trust me that nothing saddens me and the team more than having to leave Davis.
Kids eat free tomorrow [Monday] evening, and everyone else pays $3 for burritos and smoothies. And maybe we'll even pop a bottle of bubblies or two :)
We've met some wonderful people at Davis, and while we're sad that it didn't work out (our first in nearly 12 years) we enjoyed the time we were here.
Cheers,

As for my opinion of the perpetrators themselves, one of whom I observed running away and whom also was obviously old enough to legally buy cigarettes, my opinion can be summed up ( thusly: )
So...am I legally allowed to park it on the sidewalk or not? I really don't want to get towed. Can I get towed if I am chained to something? Will they actually break my lock or cut down the street sign? I want to do the legal thing here, but I don't want to get a ticket for parking in the street without a resident sticker either...Help?
ETA: I called 311 and they said I am definitely 100% legally allowed to park on the sidewalk, and not only do i not need a resident sticker, I can't get one. Looks like either someone lied to my landlady, or she was being passive aggressive. (If anybody cares to know, I wrote her a note saying I called 311 and they said I am legally allowed to park on the sidewalk. If the cop contacts her again, I'd like to get his name and badge number and report him for giving out false information. I can't park in the street without a sticker, there's no place for me to lock it up in the driveway, so from now on I'm parking on the sidewalk but I'll do a better job to make sure it takes up as little room as possible.)
ETA2: The issue gets even more confusing! Just had a nice chat with my landlady (who as it turns out was not being passive aggressive at all). She called the traffic department this morning who said that I cannot park on the sidewalk. Then she saw the note I left her, and she called the police department who said that I *can* park on the sidewalk, as long as I am not blocking the sidewalk. The neighbor who left the note on my scooter is going to help rig up something in the driveway so I can lock my scooter up there and that will solve any issues. Also, for anyone who's curious, someone from the globe is doing an article on rules and regulations for mopeds, and interviewed me today. Article will either be in this sunday or the following sunday's paper in the community section. He said he was going to call our lovely leader Tom Champion and see what further info he could dig up. I'm looking forward to seeing what he finds.
Hey all!
Does anyone know where around Davis does not require a permit to park? I know of Boston Ave and Willow. Does anyone know of any others? Thanks!
The Unusual:
antique furniture (in various stages of refinishing)
weird religious iconography
vintage kitchenware (stand mixers, reamer, green-handled implements from long ago, etc.)
other cool and weird collectibles from people who spend too much time at others' yard sales
The Usual:
books (novels, self-help, a few children's books)
games
kitchen stuff (quite a bit of this, including an old-but-functional Cuisinart 11-cup food processor)
bedding stuff
tchotchkes
clothes and accessories (vintage and contemporary)
some kids toys, including a large train table with storage bins (I'm a teacher, not a mom, so this won't be overrun with kids' stuff)
We will also feature a few Big-Ticket Items. While most things will be "yard sale priced," there will be a few items that we will have firm price attached to them (as we will simply post them on eBay if they don't sell here):
Pottery Barn Schoolhouse chairs
Antique shoe-drying rack from a Lowell factory (we used it to hold shoes, and later to hold towels)
iPods (one old mini, one new nano)
iPod fancy ear buds and docking station
..etc., etc., etc. It really goes on for days. We're at 19 Burnham St. It's a tiny little street in between Powderhouse Blvd and Broadway near the rotary. It's about a 6-7 minute walk from Davis (Holland to Irving to Burnham). The closest landmarks are the Tufts tennis courts and playing fields on the Powderhouse side and the hair salon at the corner of Broadway and Irving.
What we could use right now is some advice on times. We want to overlap with ArtBeat, but also maybe start beforehand, in case people want to come to us first. Does anyone know the scheduled times for the ArtBeat events?
Thanks!
I'm looking for a super cool place to live in with some super cool roommates. I'm 20, male, easy-going, and working for a non-profit while I take some time off school. I've tried craigslist but I figure trying here can't hurt either. I'd like some fun roommates who I can hang out with, but also have their own things going on - 420 friendly is preferred! $500-700 rent, month-to-month. I am allergic to furry animals unfortunately :-(
Let me know if you've got a place, or know someone who does!
We are in front of 147 powder house boulevard selling some assorted things that used to be in our house. maybe just giving them away even

They'll do it again on Tuesday, July 22, also at 9 am. As always, Redbones offers free bicycle valet parking while you eat.
Anyway, remember that davis_square is having it's own yard sale for charity.
Anything you don't sell that you're still looking to get rid of, keep it for an extra week or look at
