Hi! My name is Ruslan and I'm from Russia, Moscow.

I have to declare my major this year, and I'm leaning toward English. However, I noticed for Fall 2006 that almost all of the classes are in the afternoon. Is this usual for English? The problem I have now is that they almost all conflict with my lab schedule since I'm also pre-med. Also, I don't really like afternoon classes that much anyway. |

in fact, i don't even operate my journal anymore. anyway, i haven't officially registered my major yet, and i recently decided that i want to major in anthropology. i've only taken one anthro class (humankind evolving). point is, i'm wondering how it is. this coming semester i'll be a junior with all my core credits taken care of so i can fit the remaining 9 classes in, i just need some opinions of classes and the general experience. i don't want to take all these classes and not know what i'm getting into when it comes to final theses and such. |

Here's a much simplified Webtree diagram and where you should place your classes:

diagram by Emmanuel José '06
Some More Information:
A) Only the TOPS of Tree #1, #2, and #3 have to be different. The bottom two levels of Tree #1 can be identical to the bottom two levels of Tree #2 and Tree #3.
Theoretically, you're just reusing/rearranging the same group of 6-9 classes.
B) Your Alternates can just be a different section (timeslot) of the ideal class you want.
C) Classes that are VERTICAl to each other CANNOT conflict.
D) Classes that are HORIZONTAL to each other CAN conflict.
E) Put the class you most want (or the hardest go get into) at the top of Tree #1. (I recommend you put your W writing course here, the competition for them is fiercer in the spring semester for freshmen)
F) You DO NOT register for PE classes through Webtree. You register for PE classes once you arrive through the PE department website.
-- I don't have knowledge about all the classes at Davidson, but if you have any questions on which classes are harder to get into than others, I'll tell you what I know.
-- I've probably forgotten to mention something else, but please ask questions if you have any.

I'm a junior at a public high school here in NC and I've been looking at college criteria and I find Davidson's admissions process intriguing...
Class Rank is only "considered", while Rigor of Secondary School Record, Recommendations, Volunteer Work, and Personal Qualities are way up there.
okay, so based on that my chances aren't as bad as I thought they were...
620 on Verbal (I am expecting 650 after I take it again in May) 700 on Math 670 on Writing (also expected to go up)
I will have taken 8 AP classes by the time I leave high school, gone to Spanish 6, Latin 3, 5 sciences, 6 maths, etc. etc.
I've been very dedicated to both math tutoring and this thrift shop my church set up in an impoverished area of the city.
I can get recommendations.
Problem is that I'm barely making top 10%...I have about a 4.2, 3.3 unweighted (though I believe this could have been higher if we were on a ten-point scale like most school systems).
So my question is, do you think Collegeboard is right? Do I still have an okay chance even though my GPA isn't what it could and probably should be? |

Hello, I just got accepted into Davidson and I'm planning to come down and visit in about a week and a half. But I have some questions. How are the students there? Are they madd chill? What about the teachers? Are they nice or total assholes? Is their madd stuff to do down there (I'm from NY)? One of my biggest fears is that since Im used to easily going into the city and always being able to find something to do that at Davidson I might get a little bored. Is that the case? Once again thanks if you could answer my questions. |

| Rimers Of Eldritch |
[Mar. 25th, 2006|05:30 pm] |
I noticed that very few people use this community anymore, but I will take advantage of it this one time:
Come see Rimers of Eldritch, this weekend (Wed-Sun) in the Duke Family Performance Hall.
This is probably one of the coolest plays ever produced at Davidson (and I'm totally not biased just because I am in it). Everyone involved has worked really hard, so we really want to see a packed house every night.
So please come. Twice! It will be that amazing, I promise. |

| A Shameless Plug |
[Jan. 25th, 2006|12:47 am] |
Hey folks,
Those of you who know me might know that my brother, Mike Trainor, is a stand up comic.
He's had some big success recently with a column posted in Maxim magazine this month, monthly appearances on Sirius Satellite Radio's: Four Quota's (he is also a producer of the show), a television appearance on a brand new satellite comedy channel (to be aired sometime in the near future!), and a recent booking at Caroline's On Broadway, the most popular comedy venue in New York City.
Needless to say, I am one proud little sister.
Just recently Mike and some of his comic buddies, including Steve Hoffstetter (that comic who has over 100,000 friends on thefacebook.com, has performed at hundreds of colleges, and is a very cool dude who I've met personally), have begun planning what will become "The Thinking Man's Comedy Tour." They plan to start it off in Vermont in early April and are booking more gigs as we speak.
Most importantly, Mike has recently expressed his interest in bringing the tour here, to the oh so wonderful and prestigious Davidson College!
My query for you, my fellow Davidsonians, is this:
How many of you would be interested in attending a fun evening of comedy with some very funny, up and coming guys (some of whom have appeared on Comedy Central!), and supporting my big brother? Additionally, how do I go about suggesting this to the Union Board?
If you want to hear more about Mike or check out a routine (there's a very funny video!) check out www.miketrainor.com.
Please comment and let me know if you'd be interested!
Thanks, y'all.

Hello Davidson students!
I'm strongly considering a transfer to Davidson for Fall, 2006. Have any of you had experiences with transferring in? What research opportunities does Davidson offer, especially in regards to the biological sciences?
Thank you so much for any of your feedback! :) |

| COME SEE THE MUSICAL! |
[Oct. 13th, 2005|03:21 pm] |
Hello Davidsonians,
As one of the stage managers of "She Loves Me" (this semester's mainstage theatre production) I am taking this opportunity to forward a message from Ann Marie Costa (chair of the theatre department) regarding the production. I hope many of you will attend!!!
Dear Students,
As the director of our fall musical, She Loves Me, I'd like to invite you to attend one of the performances. If you were to take the story of “You’ve Got Mail,” give it memorable characters, timeless charm, magical songs, and a touch of sweet nostalgia, then you’ve got the Theater Department’s production of She Loves Me.
We expect the show to sell-out on Friday and Saturday evenings because of Family Weekend, so please get your tickets early (see below for ticket info.). On Wednesday and Thursday evenings, there will be a $2 ticket discount.
There are many wonderful student actors/singers/dancers involved in this production including nine first-year students. As always, our students so appreciate your coming out to support them. I know I am a bit prejudiced but I think they are doing really wonderful work. Their names are: Josh Carson, Douglas Clark-Brown, Ryan Creighan, Desiree Domo, Kelsey Formost, Robert Galloway, Emily Gurskis, Michael Harkins, J. Stuart Harrell, Lauren Heinze, David Kerns, Bryant Kirkland, Suzanne Lenz, David McClay, Kim Murphy, Virginia Neisler, Alea Skwara, Hanley, Smith, Athena Stevens, and Morgan Wright. Add to this, some key student players behind the scenes including Emily Bostian, Erica Cribbs, Moira McCormick, Amy Trainor, and Joe Gardner's Fundamental of Design class. We also have our own Dr. Durwin Striplin playing one of the lead roles and Jacque Culpepper is serving as our Assistant Music Director.
Our design team includes Joe Gardner, who was recently received the 2005 Best Set Design award by the Metrolina Theatre Association for a professional Charlotte production of Beauty and Beast. The other members of the production team include: Eddie Mabry (choreographer, recipient of the 2005 Best Choreography Award with MTA), Donna Conrad (costume designer), Ronnie Higdon (lighting designer/ TD), Ryan Clark (sound designer) to name a few.

| Speaking of horses... |
[Sep. 4th, 2005|02:12 am] |

Does anyone know of a place where I can take a few horseback riding lessons that's not too far away and not too ridonculously expensive? It's something I love to do and really want to get back into. |

| A Very Strange Request... |
[Sep. 4th, 2005|12:52 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | sleepy | ] | Hey there Davidson community.
I have a very odd request, but I'm wondering if y'all can humor me.
I am in a theater history class and I am currently working on making a Japanese Noh mask similar to the ones pictured on this site: http://www.artsci.wustl.edu/~rlneblet/noh/ I will use it in a presentation that I'm giving in two weeks.
Anyway...here's my question:
Do any of you ride/groom horses or know other Davidson students/people in the Davidson community who ride? I would REALLY like to get ahold of some horse hair to use in my mask. It would look a lot more authentic and cooler than human hair (which I could get from a local salon if I don't get any responses!)
If any of you could help me out I would be very appreciative!
Thanks! (And sorry for bugging you all with such a weird question...) |

| [ | mood |
| | okay | ] | I know in my last post I said that I gave $6 for every friend...
I meant 6 cents.
I would give $6 but I am a college student and that would be over 1200 dollars...
6 cents per person isn't a lot, right? |

| Relief |
[Sep. 1st, 2005|08:49 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | tired | ] | Ok, folks. You know that annoying comedian guy on thefacebook who is constantly trying to friend every single person that has an account on the site??
Well it just so happens that I know him in person...he's a friend of my brother's and they are producers for the same comedy company. Weird, right?
What's my point?
He just sent out an email to every single one of his facebook friends suggesting that we all donate 2 cents for each facebook friend that we have to help hurricane relief efforts.
I decided to give $6 for each friend, and that's still just $35.
It took me about 2 minutes on www.redcross.org
You can pick which fund you'd like to donate to (there's also one for international relief that helps out with tsunami relief efforts) and you can use a credit card.
So I think we should all do this and tell our friends to. Definitely a good cause.
Thanks. |

So....if I just happened to knock myself off Shirley by entering the wrong PIN or ID more than 3 times, how do I get back on it? And by the way, where do my ID and Pin come from? Is one my social security or ID I got when I applied to Davidson? All these numbers really confuse me. |
