| About: | Welcome to "Dates With God!" This is my first try at a Bible study journal, so you may be doing some learning along with me as I find my feet as to how this will flow. You may have giggled at the title of this community. Maybe the idea of "dating" God seems kind of strange. Let me try and explain my thought process in the naming of this little nook on the web. In any close relationship, we need to have time with that person to cultivate and deepen the friendship, the marriage etc. With God it's the same. Of course, God knows you inside and out. There is not one part of you that He doesn't know. But we need to sit down and get to know our Father. He is a God of unnumbered facets. He is Almighty and Holy of course but He is also sweet, tender, kind and so funny! The closer you get to Him, the more you discover. My Pastor's wife once gave a sermon that talked about how when we come to church we are stopping to have a cup of coffee with God. It's a fleeting occurrence, a weekly appointment we try to keep. When we spend time with God in the morning or at whatever time of day we hang out with God, we are sitting down for a meal with Him. But as many of you with roomates or spouses know, you really get to know someone when you live with them. You find out all the little habits and quirks that the rest of the world may never see. When you get married, you should never stop courting your spouse. It's those moments away, alone together where you can rest in each other's company and remember all the reasons you fell in love. My hope for this Bible study is to encourage you in your 'marriage' to God. To not just have that weekly cup of coffee or the occassional meal, but to encourage you to pack your toothbrush and go move in with God. As the Lord leads, I'll be posting different studies that are on my heart. It's my fondest wish that you would participate, ask questions and share your heart and things that God is doing in your life.
