yesterday at work we had our annual picnic and i got the joy of being in the dunk tank .. i guess you really find out who your friends are when you see the joy on their faces as you slide down into the freezing cold water.. it is amazing the fun you can have when you work for state corrections ..lol.. don't tell the taxpayers we were having too much fun .. i am sure a couple of you will get that joke ..

I have amazingly wonderful and incredible people in my life. On top of Serin looking for ice cream for me, and on top of [info]posicat offering some hugs (He gives wonderful hugs!) and on top of [info]rileybear67 making me feel so much better by IMing with me during the latter part of my work day (Thank you sweetie! I love you!), my wonderful, magical mate found dark chocolate ice cream for me.

Not just any dark chocolate. She found something called Talenti Gelato, in double dark chocolate flavor. Here's a link: http://www.chow.com/stories/10900

Yes, this review may actually be mild TMI, because it was that good. )

And my mate, my dear one, who continues to put up with my misunderstandings and massive screw-ups for reasons that I can only guess at, really knows how to fix me too. Thank you [info]moiracoon. I am so very grateful to you for still being with me, and for still being mine. I love you.

And speaking of more wonderful people in my life, I am very deeply grateful to [info]mocha_mephooki for the conversation we had tonight, and his understanding and perseverence. Thank you Mocha; I know I've been really hard to deal with sometimes, and I'm not only grateful, but sometimes amazed, that you still seem to want my company too. Thank you.

My computer died --  at least parts of it did....

The video card is a lost cause.

The remaining hulk has contracted a bad case of Zombieism -- it's staggering around screaming for more brains (working memory)

Finally the OS is somewhat corrupted and keeps whinging about missing .dll files, I think it's going to demand a total drive wipe and reload.  :(

My favorite Geek has the patient hospitalized in intensive care -- or maybe it's somewhat lax care, since I haven't heard from him in a couple of weeks.  I think he's holding it for ransom.

The problem now is the cost of the 'treatment' aka ransom.   Anyone know of any legal way to get money quickly?

I am dying here.  Withdrawal is not a pretty sight.

You know, I really do find it quite interesting and somewhat disappointing that every time people complain about council workers going on strike, it always focusses on the highly-paid staff rather than the vast majority of workers (like my care staff) that do a hell of a lot of work, burn themselves out and go way beyond their actual job roles, when they would earn more cash working in a supermarket.
And yet when things actually go wrong in social services, there's always outrage. And yes, quite rightly so. But getting a quality service day to day should be rewarded with a decent wage.

Yes, I bloody well do take it personally when people talk negatively about council staff, because I see every day what the good staff do and I also see the sometimes crap people that we have to put up with because so many people that are actually great at the job move on to stuff that lets them pay the bills and, oh, I dunno, even consider the possibility of one day owning their own house.

It's easy to look at the people who get paid more than they should for relatively easy jobs.
Work in a home full of people with dementia, try to provide a good service, day in day out, take the abuse from everyone that chooses to throw it at you, keep doing that for months and then tell me that my staff don't deserve a wage that lets them actually survive.

Yes, many people do it because they love it, I know I did. That doesn't mean they should be struggling to survive.
