( OK, November 15 it is... )
1) It is vital that we enjoy what we are doing and not fret about our performances in the way we generally tend to do.
2) It is equally vital that we appear to be enjoying ourselves to others.
3) Crowd engagement = good. And we can do it.
I had more fun tonight on stage than I have done at any of our gigs that I can remember. The highlight, obviously, came at the very end of the show when the CD with the backing track fucked up and wouldn't play the last number, so the drummer from Blatherskite stepped behind his kit (which was conveniently set up on the floor nearby), started hitting out and we started playing... something for about 30 seconds or so. Brilliant.
I quite liked Blatherskite's set, although they were cramped on the stage. That's a small stage upstairs at the Sando, and Blatherskite had a drumkit that occupied half of it, and five people in the band. On a bigger stage I think they'd go down a lot better. Given that they were playing with a fill-in rhythm section and had only had a total of four rehearsals, I think they did pretty well. The Charles Manson Experiment were terrific. Pulling off a convincing cover of "Sympathy For The Devil" is something I'd normally consider difficult in the extreme, but they managed it not too badly.
There shall be photographic evidence—including the drummer—posted later. Right now, for once, I cannot make any serious complaints against the day I have had (and I'm sure you have some idea how relatively rare that is).
All good.

A performer at a free concert Saturday night at Michigan International Speedway shouted, ``Anyone got a beer?''
One cool can of suds soared from the audience onto the stage, and then another, striking country singer Pat Green between the eyes. The impact knocked him out cold, ending the concert late in his 75-minute set, a Michigan State Police trooper said.
Green and another country act, Danielle Peck, performed after NASCAR's Carfax 250 race. Peck was the opening act. Green also was the grand marshal at Saturday afternoon's race
``As I understand it he asked for a beer, someone threw one and he caught it,'' track spokeswoman Sammie Lukaskiewicz said. ``Someone then threw another beer, and it hit him.'' Medical personnel treated Green at the track. [source]
It's been in my head all day (this time DO watch the video).

Several human skulls with horns protruding from them were discovered in a burial mound at Sayre, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, in the 1880's. With the exception of the bony projections located about two inches above the eyebrows, the men whom these skeletons belonged to were anatomically normal, though at seven feet tall they were giants. It was estimated that the bodies had been buried around A.D. 1200. The find was made by a reputable group of antiquarians, including the Pennsylvania state historian and dignitary of the Presbyterian Church (Dr. G.P. Donehoo) and two professors, A.B. Skinner, of the American Investigating Museum, and W.K.Morehead, of Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts. The bones were sent to the American Investigating Museum in Philadelphia, where like so many finds that question anthropology, they were stolen and never seen again.

I'm just passing along the frustration ...
PETA Warns Mexican-U.S. Border Crossers
No matter what your stance is on the highly controversial U.S.-Mexican border fence project, everyone can agree that those who decide to come to the U.S. should be warned about the downside of our nation's meat and milk consumption habits. PETA is warning immigrants that there's much more to worry about than proper documentation.Yeah, because if you're going to run the risk of fleeing one country and illegally entering another one in search of a better life even though you'll likely just end up with virtual slave labour working for someone who knows you're there illegally and so can just call the cops on you if you refuse to accept the substandard pay and conditions they wouldn't impose on anyone else but can get away with in your case, the most pressing issue you have to face is that McDonald's isn't that good for you. Yeah. I was too scared to read the comments on the original blog post, but
We've written a letter to the commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection asking to buy space at each of the nine southwest border sectors for our new ad. Those considering entry will then read this message: "If the border patrol doesn't get you, the chicken and burgers will. Go vegan" (or, in Spanish, "Si no te agarra la migra, te atraparan el pollo y las hamburguesas. Sé vegano").
By leaving behind a far healthier staple diet of vegetables and grains—like rice, beans, corn, peppers, and tortillas—Mexicans and other immigrants will likely find themselves fattening up on the fiberless, fatty, cholesterol-laden U.S. diet, which is linked to heart disease, various types of cancer, and strokes (our nation's three biggest killers) as well as impotence (internationally recognized killer of the mood).
PETA's placement of these colorful ads would certainly offset some of the tax dollars that fund the fence. It's a winning solution for the folks at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, immigrants, and farmed animals alike!
I don't think the ads are insulting but, even if they are--so what?? Diets high in animal products ARE bad for you--that's a FACT, like it or not. Animals are tortured and slaughtered by the hundreds of thousands and fed to humans--that's a FACT, like it or not. Just because people are poor, that does not excuse their eating of animals. They bear the same guilt as those who are wealthy and eat animals.Jesus.

1 Holiday
Midsummer's Eve, Christianized as the eve of the feast of Saint John the Baptist, is celebrated in much of Northern Europe
I got paid.
A day early.
With my pay rise effected.
I paid my bills.
I still have two thirds of my money.
I may not run out this month.
This pleases me.
And now, some Emiliana – because this fits my mood today (don't bother watching – just listen).
